    I can imagine Dr. Yu spent a lot of time to prepared these videos for us. All the videos are very organized. After I finished every sections I just want to say thanks.

    Hello! I was going over some ATI questions on the app and one of the explanations for Mendelian Genetic was "The monohybrid 3:1 ratio is only applicable to the F2 offspring of Heterozygote self-cross" is it possible if you can better explain to me what they mean by that?

      Sure. If you have a biology book handy, you can go to the chapter that talks about Mendelian Genetics. There's usually a figure showing the three generations of peas Mendel experimented. The two parent plants of the first generation, F0, need to be both homozygous. One parent plant is "pure bred" for, say, tall (dominant), TT. The other parent plant is tt. If they breed, the second generation offspring, F1, will all be heterozygous (Tt), and be sure to know that all the F1 individuals have the same genotype, Tt. Now, if F1 plants breed, the ratio in F2 offspring is the monohybrid ratio of 3:1 mentioned in the app. This is because Tt x Tt will produce: dominant trait offspring (TT + Tt): recessive offspring (tt)= 3:1.       You are welcome! Good question. So it's 1000x50 percent (50 percent=0.05). If one parent is Aa and the other is aa, the cross generates 50% Aa and 50% aa, half yellow and half green. If this cross produces a total of 1000 seeds, there would be 500 (1000x50%) yellow seeds and 500 (same equation) green seeds. Basically this is about using the total number of offspring and the phenotypic ratio (percentage) to calculate the number of offspring with a particular type of phenotype. Hope this helps :-)

    Thanks Dr. Yu, Iam using ATI package now, but there are some technical issues about the app. It is not working so well on the Iphone, and some time really annoying to use.
