The Nissan Murano is one of those cars that was never quite right first time for the British market but which, after a bit of fettling, belatedly came good. Unfortunately, by the time Nissan had got the offering right, the damage had been done. The Murano was never a big seller. In fact, it remains a very rare sight on our roads. This means that if you're in the market for a used Murano, you could well pick up a bargain. You'll need to be patient though. Here's what to look for.
This Murano's styling will be a key reason why buyers either reach for their credit cards or run a mile. Nissan's designers took the opportunity to combine the need for cooling airflow to the diesel engine and radiators with a styling makeover for the front-end. A revised grille and bumper design reinforced the striking looks. As a result, with a big set of wheels filling its bulbous wheelarches, the Murano is quite a striking sight. Buyers will just have to judge whether or not it's one they want to see outside their houses every morning.
The interior goes after an upmarket feel and is broadly successful. There are a lot of buttons as if to underline the quantity of equipment that has been crammed inside but the finishes and the luminescent instruments stop just the right side of over the top given the Murano's extrovert nature. An enormous dual panel glass sun roof is available in the standard model, but if the original keeper wasn't bothered about that, there was also the option of a roof-mounted DVD player system.
There's also a powered tailgate which opens and shuts in 7 and 9 seconds respectively, plus a kerb camera mounted within the passenger door mirror. At speeds up to 12 mph it displays images of the ground beside the car on the 7 inch colour sat nav screen, showing the proximity of walls, kerbs and otherwise obscured obstacles. If those don't impress, try the rear electric seat system. The rear seats split 60/40 and are lowered simply by pulling a lever in the luggage area, but raising them is even easier; press a button on the dashboard or in the cargo area and the seats automatically move into position in just 8 seconds.

2011 SV here with $ 196,000 miles here still going with no engine or transmission issues. Changed the Y pipe on the catalytic converter and welded an exhaust pipe. The car still runs good.

2009 LE still running just fine at 230k miles. Of course all the wear and tear parts have been replaced over time and I replaced the rear tail lights with the refreshed 2012-13 taillights-but it’s been a great reliable car and its forward thinking styling still looks current today.

A 3 year/50% residual turned out to be very optimistic from what I remember.

Not many autos where the owners *won’t* have negative things to say! I’ve had my ‘09 since 2014 now @ 105K miles & the only things replaced are batteries, tires, & of course, oil. lol, it’s a solid quiet ride w/ great acceleration & has served me very well.

I owned a few cvt nissans . No problems. Currently I own a 2012 murano AWD . Change cvt fluid at 60 thousand miles , maintenance intervals like it says in the owners manual. You should no problems. Mine has 152000 miles on it right now. Smooth as silk running. If you want something very very fast buy the legendary GTR V6 nissan. God zilla 😊

Nissan Murano is good candidate for LS4 5.3 V8 engine because LS4 is a Front wheel drive engine.

Good car, if they hadn't included that horrible CVT transaxle, it'd been an awesome car.
125k miles and so far, so good.
Wife really likes her '13 Platinum, going to be pretty bummed when it finally dies.

Why Nissan put in a cvt into these made them such a horrible and bad buy those transmissions even today suck so badly can't even last 25k miles if they just put in a reliable transmission and not a experimental cvt that breaks so often you are very likely to eat a cost of a new cvt before the car even hits 60k that is not acceptable. Also why Nissan is failing they are not reliable.

@@billmoore4187 everything I have seen has said if you do a transmission fluid filter change every 30,000 miles 50,000 kilometres that last just fin and there are plenty of running ones with well over 160,000 kilometres 100,000 MLS. Ignore the CVT servicing, you have a nasty $6000 time bomb. And use the Nissan fluid, not after market

Any help is appreciated: I just bought a 09 Murano and replaced the Accelerator pedal sensor and got no results. (I was told that was the issue) It doesn't rev up. Is this the limp mode low tranny fluid? I didn't check it. I did hear a loud whining when 1st started, I thought it was the pw steering pump.

Check the rubber flex piece that runs into the throttle body, it tears easily and when it opens up screws up the computer to think its running to air heavy and you loose throttle response.

That’s limp mode. Probably the transmission pressure low. Service it..
