This is why Larry is so loved in Boston. When he came to visit Boston after being drafted. When the Celtics got his bill from the hotel it read $0.00 room service or any other extras. He bought and paid for his own food and drink.
A+++ interview....Chick was awesome along with the Johnny Mosts, Vin Scullies, ...Just an amazing interview, u can tell he loves Larry's game and respects the Legend
Chick wat a wonderful, great human being!! Superb interview!! Asks all the right questions. And LARRY, well hes my favorite of all time!! rest in peace Chick GOD bless ya and EVERYTHING ya did for my favorite sport!! LETS GO TANK!!!
Legend at a glance and watching him interview for your first time I can see some thinking he’s bored or not wanting to be there but really he’s listening intently and comes up with very honest and straight responses, and he’s so dry when it’s something you’d not expect you can’t help but wonder what an interesting guy! Legend- no doubt he and Magic were each other’s equal!
How I miss the legendary Chick Hearn. Made watching a basketball game so enjoyable with his 'chickisms'. Also, a great interviewer as this video shows!
Wow chick and larry have great rapport together. You can see the mutual respect and you can tell Chick thinks Larry is great and he admires his basketball game !!
Awesome interview. My favorite player of all time and my favorite announcer of all time. As a Celtics fan in California, I would always keep an eye on the Lakers and they were on a TV station called Prime Ticket. Of course I'd always root against the Lakers but I LOVED listening to Chick Hearn. He was simply the greatest I've ever heard in any sport call a game. I wish he would've been the Celtics announcer. You can tell Chick and Larry have tremendous respect for one another.

Totally off subject, but seeing videos like this really makes you appreciate the advances in video and broadcasting technology. I still remember when people were talking about their local stations making the eventual move to digital-only broadcast, which meant no more old TV antennas.
@@TheSands83 I hear ya, and can relate to that sentiment. But to be fair, that's likely nostalgia creeping in. That older type of video was all there was when we were young, so it speaks to our younger selves, and makes us think of "simpler times," although they weren't really simpler -- we just had less responsibility back then. I would bet an arm that if you had been born later than 1990, you'd prefer the newer stuff. It's all about what we grew up with. It's hard not to look back at yesteryear without some of level of longing.
He went on in '85 to break his hand on a bouncer's head in a Boston bar after the Philadelphia ECF and then crapped out against the Lakers. Seems he should've taken his own advice that, "You've gotta watch some of things you do" - had he, the C's would've won 4 titles and tied Magic's Lakers and people wouldn't be calling Bird "overrated" now. After the incident, Bird confessed to the LA Times, "It isn't easy being Larry Bird." I believe it. Still.
Chick was an infamous close talker, like the seinfeld episode LOL..I am pretty sure it's a generational thing with those guys who lived through the great depression.
You know that interviewer is the guy who ACTUALLY coined the terms "slam dunk", "airball", etc, and was the first guy who started estimating the feet of shots from the rim? That's Chick Hearn. Father of basketball narrating. That's why Larry and other biggies would do interviews with him. Respect. No shit. Everyone liked Chick and Chick liked everyone.
nonplayerzealot4 regardless of his contributions to mainstreaming basketball commentary, my point is he seems too close to comfort. I respect many people, does that give them an automatic free pass to get in my breathing space? No. If those are your standards for etiquette then so be it, it isn't for me.
nonplayerzealot4 calm down for what? When did I ever cap any of my letters? My original comment was about him being within what my regards are for personal space. Never said he didn't ask good questions, never said he was unqualified, or left out subjects etc. Your the one who all capped "ACTUALLY" and said "Respect. No shit.", on top of listing his contributions to basketball culture and commentary, as if any of that was valid to my original question. If anyone if butt-hurt here it's you. Like I said before, if your criteria for people getting within breathing space is that you like/respect them then that's fine, it just isn't for me. Also if getting the job done was all that matters then why comment to me at all.

Celtics and Lakers in their glorious hey-day and Larry Legend. I miss the 80's!

I just bought one from Mitchell and Ness. It was like $160.00 but it’s the authentic throwback Larry bird warmup jersey
