I saw these guys in June, 1999 when I was around 6 years old. Still remember it vividly and have some home video, I think! So awesome to come across this again.
I will ALWAYS consider these guys my favorite. They were amazing and I had the opportunity to sing with them MANY years ago at Compassion International. I miss them, and Scotty Vaughan was my absolute favorite. Vern, Scotty, Wes, Sam, Joe...my heart will remain with you till I die.
I think i bought a FWW album back in the 1990s but d iudnt have a pc at the time. I had a wonderful Chr iistmas album. Kids loved it too. Those weregood old days
I went as a kid and loved it. I then took my kids in 2007 and was afraid with all the technology, they'd be bored and not enjoy it. Both my son and daughter hit me up for cowboy hats and absolutely loved the experience. They were totally into it. I'll definitely go back. I haven't been since the reopening after the fires and floods, but am looking forward to the new facility and the old time experience.
Couldn't agree more. They play too fast and sound like they're try to impress by adding flare. These songs don't need flare. They are beautiful just the way they are with a slow pace to allow you to acknowledge all the beauty around you. Granted, I realize that part of the reason why these guys are so good is because they had played together for decades and had experience behind their belts that allowed them to produce a rich, deep harmony that was just so sweet!! Makes you want to have these guys around with you at the campfire!!
We saw these guys in Colorado Springs. They had this lineup (Vern, Wes, Scotty). Music and laughter, they were great. We mail ordered their CDs while they were together. I think the fire broke them up.
They were a great lineup. However, the left the Ranch at the end of 2005 to start various ministries in Colorado Springs. Both Scotty and Vern run churches in the area. The Ranch is reopened now...I personally think the band is pretty good now. :)
My father (Vern) and Joe are Pastors at Colorado Cowboys for Jesus Church on the Westside of Colorado Springs just outside of Old Colorado City. Ronnie joins them for worship several weeks a month as well. Wes moved home to Texas and did shows with his brothers for a while. I believe he's now part of a worship team in Texas. Scotty is Pastor at Church on the Ranch that was held at the Flying W until the fire destroyed the ranch 12 years ago. They have built a church towards the East side of Colorado Springs since then.
Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been a fan of theirs since forever; lived in CS, CO for 34 years and I have seen them perform quite often during the day…priceless moments!
Thank you! I’ve been looking for this exact video for years. My grandparents had seen the Flying W Wranglers while on vacation in Colorado and they bought this tape for me. I hadn’t given it much thought until recently, but I’m 99.9% sure this video was my first exposure to Western Swing music. I eventually (stupidly) got rid of the VHS and went on to dig into the music of Bob Wills and Asleep at the Wheel. I’ve found Flying W. Wranglers recording over the years, but I thought I’d never see this thing again. Thanks for bringing back a great childhood memory!
I remember Great Memories of the Flying W Ranch in 1981-82. I think with the original band members were still there in 1999. Rest In Peace to Wes English and Sam Nicole (The Fiddler) I Loved the song Sam Nicole played which was the Flaming W. I don't know if anyone else passed away or not. I remember in 1981 when I first heard Western Music and I Loved It! I remember buying my first and only Vinyl LP Record "On The Trail" When all the Wranglers signed it. I much enjoyed the meal and I was so hungry! I went with a Church Group to Colorado Springs Colorado. I remember staying at Glen Eyrie Discipleship Conference and Queens Canyon bordered the propety for which the Navigators ran the Conference where a Castle is there. Moving forward to 2012 something horrible happened when a Forest Fire just destroyed the Flying W Ranch! Glen Eyrie though was untouched! I remember when people were seeing flames around Queens Canyon, I guess the winds shifted so Glen Eyrie was not touched. It took years for the Flying W Ranch to rebuild and then the next thing was the Pandemic to complicate things and restoration projects to protect from Flood and Erosion of the Waldon Canyon Forest! The Waldon Canyon Forest Fire Of 2012 Is Still An Open Case With No Resolved Answers On How It All Started! Anyhow The Flying W Ranch Is In Operation Again And Took Years To Rebuild. To This Very Day There Is Still Reminders On What Happened In 2012. There Was A Great News Story Of What Happened A Decade Later From That Horrible Forest Fire And Still Unsolved Answers In Hopes There Would Be A Lead In The Case!
Just soo beautiful!! Miss these guys. Unfortunately, I could only find their Worship album on Spotify. The other was the newer group which just isn't the same. The closest I found to them was Son's of the Joaquin. They play some of the same songs, but not all of my favorites, but I do like some of the songs they play that I haven't heard before. It is so hard to find groups like this anymore. I think they should come back together, or at least do a reunion. They could easily have raised all the funds back with an weekend performance reunion to rebuild the Ranch what it was. We just need to keep telling them that they need eachother again!!
Wonderful. Thank you for posting this. Got to see this lineup in 2005 for my 50th birthday with my Passin’ Through band buddies. Sadly , Wes English had recently gone back to Texas to rejoin the English Brothers. Scotty took over bass duties doing a great job. So glad it’s been rebuilt and back in action. Hope to get back there someday and see the current lineup. 👍🏼🤠
My family made a visit to the Flying W Ranch way back in 1974. I was 11 years old at the time....3 older brothers and 2 younger sisters plus my parents. I remember one of the songs they sung because it was so funny... about a lady and her whiskey keg legs who could hang her feet off the Royal Gorge Bridge and dangle her feet in the water....lol.....great memories....is the ranch still open for business ?
The entire ranch burned in the Waldo Canyon fire years ago... however, it's been rebuilt. The historic village is gone, the dinner and show have returned.

Thank you for this. The new band is great but never as good as this great bunch of guys!

My family and I really enjoyed this lineup. They were our favorites. I was wondering if anyone has an update on what these band members are doing now?
