    Bad ass. Glad I stumbled across this. I'm building the same car, a 72 Formal Roof on a 2007 Crown Vic chassis. Challenge is finding decent parts for these things! Luckily the Crown Vic floor pans fit, especially when using a CV chassis, it's a no brainer. Anyhow, best of luck to you.

    as long as the block isn't broken its worth money. always an option to sell or rebuild it for something else. if your gonna do it with the crown vic 2 things. mount the body first that front will need massaging into place. and any and everything on that car is worth money so take your time with it.

      ( the in head plane ) would be to get a semi wrecked Crown vic,, Slowly stripped it down..parts would be great to sell on both cars..Then the measuring and bracing and then cutting..thats where i am at ( mentally ) the hoist the car up and over thats where i am stumped in thoughts

    I had a '74 with a Windsor, super straight and flat black. I was like 20yrs old at the time and broke. Gave $200 at the time. Kinda miss that thing. I like the look you are going for. I also love the look of the Baja cars from the early '70's that James Garner raced. Very tempted to AWD my '70 Mav. I have lots of AMC Eagle parts cars so I think it's doable. Can't wait to see what you do about this thing!

    I would love to see you accomplish that build. My step dad had two of those and both were 4 doors in the late 70ths and I still love them today. Go for it, this is what I do now for a living 'build and repair cars, trucks and SUVs. Because of my step dad I'm a Ford guy at heart. He had nothing but 60's mustang's, torinos, galaxy's and f100 pickups and I will never forget the brand new 78 f100 pickup that he traded one of the torino on. As a kid I loved working with him taking engine and transmission in and out of those cars and trucks. He would go and buy a bigger junk yard engine to put in one because he say that the one in it is not fast enough and mom would try to get on him and he would always tell her to 'stay out of this and go your way woman" 'lol". Do your thing man 'I'm waiting to see the finish product.

    100% behind this idea for a build. I used to have a beautiful 72 Gran Torino Sport fastback back in the late 70s in the factory butterscotch color. Another one I should have never turned loose. Big fan of doing the chassis swap as long as the wheelbase matches well. Go for it Boss !!!

If you'll be patient, a good restoration candidate will come along. You need to figure out what you REALLY want. if you're not in love with the Maverick, get rid of it and get what really excites you. Forcus on THAT and accomplish something rather than getting distracted with 3 or 4 other projects. Take advice from people with EXPERIENCE. It will pay off big!

    I'm with u on this one. I do the same. I like merc cougars but instead of wanting a cougar elimanater I want a simple coupe. So I can then alter it. I can make it the hot rod I want & can go out & have fun with. (Beat the shit out of) then I'm not destroying a collector piece that is sought after & holds a value. The stuff I'm looking for may have a value but nothing like the special ones. I want a couger the way i believe they should have been made. With some modern advances taken advantage of. As far as the crown Vic chassis, I've seen it dun. I helped a buddy stock car race & he used a heavily altered & shortened 94 police car chassis with mustang sheetmetal on it. Not even guna get into the engine. But it was quit the car

    The race car theme would be dope but would take soooo much time and effort "ie" money. Not a more cost effective build would be cut the top turn it into a roadster. Put a navi 5.4 dohc and place a supercharger on top. All that with the vic's chassis would be a great blend. Just a idea. And go with some staggered 22 or 24.

    The sheetmetal that you're after may be further gone than looks. Once you start trying to work with it and it starts folding up like a rusty old trash can....? On a track car, you still need some stability in the sheetmetal. Because the body has weight, if not stable it will still push that frame and suspension around. An open wheel racer will handle like shit if you hang rusty ass laundry on it. My point is, the sheet metal may be a lot worse than surface. A sharp probe might tell you how stable. Putting one's knuckles to it will give you a false reading. But yes, if you think it is stable, hang that shit on that race car and go for it!

    My question is #1, do you see yourself being able to buy a new roof from one of these OEM antique parts companies? And #2, do you see yourself being able to weld the new one on correctly? That's the biggest issue I see and that's a big issue.

    What hubs are you using on your brake conversion and why do you want the billet ones

    • @bstfordchannel923
      @bstfordchannel923  4 года назад +1

      well the hubs are the stock ones from the drums.. when you cut them down I FEEL that its not enough material on it ( for me ) cool for now , but the billet ones are thick to hold the studs in

      you got the concept Travis many think of restoring THAT i am not doing brother Travis..The major parts is the chassis of the vic under this body with ac and heat ( if i can pull that off ) body will be beat for little focus on the door 1st then the roof last,, use all the vic brake lights turn light ect.. its doable but i can not have any DEEP projects going when doing this
