When it comes to surround sound alone, which do you prefer? A great home theater setup, or a movie theater? I'm asking, because the rare times I go to the movie theaters, I'm always hugely disappointed with the sound. It's always turned up too loud, clips, and the bass is rumbling, instead of heard and felt. And everyone disagrees with me, and say the audio is far better, in a movie theater, compared to my ~2000 dollar Denon & Dali 7.0 setup (I don't have a sub, and don't really feel the need for one).
Black Hawk Down! I would say the whole movie without any fast forward. Just sit and watch and the action scenes will take you by surprise with the immaculate mixing and sound editing of that movie!
Master and Commander (2003) - Ship battle scene at the beginning. Has pretty much everything you could want in a sound demo. Starts ~ 6:15 Godzilla (2014) - Train scene with Monster. Best way to find out if your subwoofer is lacking. It climbs up and gets down really low when the monster is making noise, potentially bottoming out your subwoofer if it can't play low enough. Starts ~ 1:15:00 Tron Legacy (2010) - Light Cycle scene. Bikes moving around screen are great surround experience not to mention the crashes. Starts ~ 39:40 Thor (2011) - Frost Giants fight scene. Mjolnir traveling around and the giants move and fall with heft. Starts ~ 20:15 Star Wars Episode 1 (1999) - The only reason to watch this movie is for the pod racing scene. All the engines sound different and changing of direction along with change in sound depending on if they are in the canyon, cave, or out in the open. Starts ~ 58:00 U-571 ( ) - Main battle scene. Great sound design like most movies that have submarines but just cranked up to 11. Starts ~ 1:13:00
I figured I would add more that I haven't seen people mention yet... Pacific Rim (2013) - Start up sequence. Everything makes noise from the gears winding up to the hydraulic limbs moving which leads to the wonderful footfalls. Starts ~ 5:00 King Kong (2003) - Fight scene with TRexs. The foot travel across the scene from surround to surround is sweet. The roars are loud but not clipping loud. Starts ~ 1:50:00 Doctor Strange (2016) - First jump into the Astral Plane. This part like Tron is both visually pleasing but the audio brings so much to the scene. Starts ~ 28:00 Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) - Final fight scene. Great gun fight but starts out more stealthy with knifes. The great guitar song being played also brings character to it as well. Starts ~ 1:47:00 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) - First race. Even though pretty much all the Fast series has some crazy car scene this to me is the best race (even if they use the shifter like they have 10+ gears). Starts ~ 6:30 Gravity (2013) - The whole thing. There are only a couple of non tense moments in the movie. The audio transitions from inside the helmet so well, and out in space along with the intense heartbeat style bass.
Fury (tank shootout scene), Ready Player One (race scene), Saving Private Ryan, Mad Max: Fury Road, any Transformers movie, any Star Wars movie, and Greenland (whenever the comets hit Earth and right before they enter the bunker). All must be viewed and listened on 4K UHD!
Master and Commander (Russell Crowe) all ship battles but the first one MAN!! You want to talk about Dinamics ? That first scene went from quite and foggy morning to hell in no time, this movie made me upgrade my receiver because i couldn’t make it past the first canon explosion without my receiver cutting off . And the wood cracklings quiet scenes during conversations (dialogues) is priceless details.
Believe it or not: A quiet place. Very little dialog in the movie, but with the right set up, the monsters, the skittering, the footsteps, sound so lifelike that I jumped a couple of times
My favourite LFE-demo are the opening scene in The hurt locker when the bomb goes of, especially the low rumble that are felt more than you hear it when they zoom in and se the gravel on top of the car move.
I'm just an enthusiast with his first home theater but I would say my demos are How To Train Your Dragon, Doctor Strange, Godzilla (2014), Gravity and Mad Max Fury Road
A good one that I usually go to is Ready player one. Specifically the race scene. Another good one is Lone Survivor with Mark Wahlberg once the bullets get flying you will swear they are going around you. Last but not least is the 4k version of Top Gun. The sounds from the jets flying around in the background is incredible. Oh yeah also check out The invisible man and A quiet place. Amazing atmospheric moments in both of those movies.
Gotta listen to the remastered 4k UHD version of "Saving Private Ryan" with dolby atmos or dts. The opening scene where they are storming the beach with bullets whizing by and water spashing and people yelling. You feel like you are on the beach with them.
I like using 'The Empire Strikes Back' as a home theatre demo while listening to the opening sequence where the star destroyer deploys probes and I always look forward to the sound of those probes whipping past my head (even though there's supposed to be no sound in space; hehe) which I appreciate with my surround sound speakers. Plus, the Hoth battle sequence has everything; explosions, mechanical sounds, rumbles of snow walkers advancing, collapsing snow caverns, and a great John Williams score. :)
While not something you can really demo anymore. John Wick 3 is probably the best Dolby Atmos experience I've had in theaters. They tuned each gun shot to a different intensity in the butt kickers. So when he pulled out the big guns you literally felt it! I haven't seen another movie use butt kickers for story purposes before or after. As far as in-home. I really enjoyed the live Vulfpeck MSG concert on RUclips. Yes, it's not the highest quality but the way it was recorded on stage really transported me. Like I was one of the mucisians rather than the audience.
Twister 🌪 is one of my favorites. zodiac is great . That part of the Battleship movie sounds good . Another one i like is PEAR HARBOR. ONE THAT I LIKE TO CRANK THE VOLUME IS THE SHOOTING SCENE ON THE MOVIE ( HEAT ) .
Pearl Harbor was almost on my list, only I recommend the Director’s Cut (unrated) which I only believe was released on DVD. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED compared to the theatrical release.
TRON is a good one for sure. I recall many scenes from that film on loop at Emotiva while they were developing the XMC-1 processor (first generation). Thank you for watching.
Been quarantined here in the Netherlands as well, so some time to check out your list! Thanks for the video. I personally added Joker to my list, absolutely stunning sounding dialogue/ambient/music. Dunkirk is also extremely well recorded (that opening scene, mind blowing !). All the best to everyone in these difficult times 👍
Short list: 1. A quiet place: Bridge and Dinner scenes - outstanding sound design. 2. Edge of tomorrow: INSANE Base 3. World war Z: INSANE Base 4. Annihilation: Outstanding last scene in a Lighthouse - a bubble of sound effects and music all around you. 5. Identity - John Cusack in constant RAIN and THUNDER for 90 minutes! What's not to like? :) PS Arrival - Airplanes flying over in the begining, aliens knocking on the glass, creepy alien voices... PS2 Lights out - Lightswitch on and off! :)
So many good ones mentioned. A Quiet Place had me jumping the entire time! I'm not familiar with Identity but I'd be willing to bet Andrew has it here somewhere.
@@KristiWright Identity is from 2003, if you haven't seen it you are in for a treat! :) Especially on Bluray: Uncompressed PCM 5.1 track (Upmixed to 5.2.4 (Neural:X) in my HT). Best soundtrack I've tested so far is..Edit: bad timing in this day and age, some other time. 🙂
Great video Andrew. Thank you and Kristi for the best advice and kind words for us all. I no longer have a surround sound but I go all the way back to 1994 with pro-logic, then 1998 with AC-3 Laserdisc till 2011 with 7.1 Dolby True and DTS master in a dedicated room. For effects and placement I used The opening of Darkness Falls For the same but less (much less) bombastic sound The whole 3rd act of Cloverfield I'm sure it's on the banned list but.. The Drum dance in House of flying daggers The dialogue in A Marriage Story I thought was beautifully presented and centre focused. Others include... My Japanese laserdisc of the Phantom Menace for bass in the dual of the fates fight (it's the theatre mix and is crazy hot). Superbit dvd of Closer for Damien Rice's Blowers Daughter in DTS fills the room. The car wind using the window's in Adam Sadler's Spanglish it excellent and one last test for that rise in subs you mentioned. The asteroid crashing back to Earth in Superman Returns its nuts from the back to the front as it comes over the roof of the Kent house. Greatest Showman is right up there now both sonically and visually (even fine tuned my Darbee with it) And one more.... The end of ET for the sheer amount of emotions you go through. When the system is in synergy and I'm happy with everything the last 15 minutes my guard is down listening to the system and not the movie and instead it will just fly by and I'm gone with laughter and tears in one breathtaking piece of music and filmmaking. Keep up the great work. Hope these will be of use to some one as my 7.1 days are over. Now enjoying more music on my small 2.1 and hope one day I can add a second subwoofer for 2.2. Cheers everyone 😎
Typo... Darkness Falls is all about creepy subtle sounds. The film was very low budget and the production decided to blow a large percentage on Skywalker Sound for the creature. I should have explained that before comparing the other end of the scale with Cloverfield which is just all around me
Appreciate you sharing and I’m going to have to look into some of your recommendations while practicing social distancing. Thank you for watching and be well.
I only had a sub for a bit before having to sell it but i remember the movie Serenity and how the room felt like it was shaking when the spaceship landed.
I really enjoy demoing Pride and Prejudice, the Darcy proposal scene with the rain in the background requires some nice separation and is one of my favorite in surround.
I have a couple of movies to me that gems: V for Vendetta: V’s soliloquy is vexing and a very thought-provoking film considering the pandemic Run, Lola, Run (dubbed in English): just a fun movie The Legend of 1900: Super story Das Boot Director’s cut (dubbed in English): One of the finest war epics ever and definitely at the top of submarine movies
In terms of music, I like using Lou Reed's 'Walk On The Wild Side' for the amazing resonance of the guitar strings at the beginning of the song as well as the solo saxophone later on, not to mention the female backup chorus. Jean-Michel Jarre's 'Oxygene' is an album I use, particularly Part I and Part II (used in 'Gallipoli' starring a young Mel Gibson) as well as 'Scheherazade' by Rimsky-Korsakov conducted by Fritz Reiner and performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra which I use specifically for the violin solo.
Good demo movie's Hacksaw Ridge, Judgement Day (Terminator), Legend Of Zorro, Mask of Zorro, there is an exploding Train scene that is awesome, Jona Hex with Megan Fox, True Lies scene when Arnold Schwarzenegger flies the Hovercraft Fighter Jet, and Saving Private Ryan.
Me too! Love the sound of canon balls whistling past your ear and of the cast-iron balls smashing into solid wooden rails, splintering them. Definitely gives your rear surround and sub-woofer a workout!
Thanks Andrew for another insightful video. If you're not too stressed out, These Final Hours the Australian film from 2014 is a fascinating look at human behavior in extreme conditions. It's dark, but has beauty in a way. And then my all time demo with a good story is Master and Commander closely followed by Watchmen. Stay healthy!
WOW! Nice video and list, looking forward to test them all! Here's my short demo playlist. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (opening scene) Bumblebee (opening scene) Baby Driver (opening scene) Ready Player One (yes, the race) John Wick: Chapter 2 (opening scene, NY landscape but filmed in my home town in Montreal)
Some of my home-theater go-to demos: Speed Racer - The final race sequence. Not only do you get incredible sound design and surround separation, the CGI presents one helluva workout for video processing. The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring - Balrog sequence. If your sub(s) can manage that sequence's LFE without distortion... Requiem for a Dream - See also: most all of Darren Aronofsky films. The well-mixed dialog over Clint Mansell's amazing score(s) while still maintaining the creepy atmosphere in the surround channels always raises the hair on my neck. Lady in the Water - Great Eatlon sequence. This is more just for James Newton Howard's score that drives the whole scene. If you're not on the verge of tears at that resolve, are you even human?
Haha!! “Honda Civic Bass” So perfect! Wow, thank you, Andrew! Now I know exactly what to use for a home theater set up, if I ever actually were to put one together. Those were absolutely phenomenal descriptions and well worded examples too. Your BANNED! list at the end was funny as hell! Ha! On a separate note, I don’t know you or Kristi personally, but I just want to say that as a fellow human being, I care about you guys and hope that you guys stay well and continue to be positive minded. Again, thanks to the both of you. 🎶🔊🙂
My top ten to test both audio and video of your home theater: Blade Runner The Shining Master and Commander Dark Knight Pacific Rift Gravity Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Star wars pod racing scene Planet Earth Eraserhead
Dark City -Chapter 15,Final Imprint. Skip to when John Murdock gets injected with that serum and then what happens is actually the climax of the whole movie. I get goosebumps each time I hear it on my system. Trevor Jones' score should be beating out of all of the speakers and there should be a very visceral bass sound along with very nice dynamics and beautiful separation and surround effects.
Great list Andrew, really enjoying discovering the channel and love the honesty of your thoughts and reviews etc, and speaking of which was recently convinced to pull the trigger on some Jamo c97's I was considering after watching your video, and really enjoy them! I can't do a HT demo session without the following opening scenes on Blu-ray 1. Batman the Dark Knight / 2. Deadpool 1 / 3. The Revenant. Imo All amazing in their own way.
Being one of those 4K 5.2.4 creatures I had to change my testers. The fight scene in Hong Kong of "Pacific Rim" is my set for my subs and got my crossovers to perfection. The Blu Rey of Beethoven's 6th. "Dr. Strange" for balance an subtlety. Thanks and have fun!
Thanks for the list! I am going to test all of these. My first go-to is the Matrix "He is the One" scene in the hallway toward the end of the movie. (My humble, old system: Yamaha R-S202, Definitive Technology BP-10B/ProCenter C2/BP-2X/PF15TLPLUS.)
A really tremendous film to test speakers with is Tron Legacy on Blu-ray. Especially when Sam first goes into the computer, everything from that moment onward through the "disc wars" sounds phenomenal and exceedingly spacious and grand.
As a new subscriber, I thank you Andrew for your personable presentation and heart felt thoughts for us viewers. I can only reflect that back to you and your family. Only comment, Interstellar....a movie that features the pipe organ as it's a MAIN source of music to the sound track thanks to Maestro Zimmer! I have been working still (now beyond my retirement age) for a pipe organ shop here locally in Massachusetts. I could not wait for the movie to be released on BluRay and could only hope that the organ would be shown in the EXTRA features. Well, my hopes were answered! I also have the soundtrack for the movie on double set VINYL, and the inside gate fold has a story written by Hans himself on how he was acquainted with the pipe organ at a very early age. He could have used electronic sampling in this film, but decided on his core of REAL musicians and an organist playing one of the finer instruments in England. Again, just my contribution to your channel ((O: Be well, and I shall stay tuned !
Just when I scaled down to a two channel system, you're making me want to return to surround. lol! Great suggestions. I love these recommended listening segments. Be safe, A&K !!
Andrew, could you please list the movies with the time at which the scene begins next to it, so we can easily skip to that point in the movie to see and hear what you are talking about in your descriptions? Thanks!
Andrew, I’ve scoured the internet looking for a good explanation/suggestion for this question, but no luck. Since you are the main reason I own a Crown 1502 power amp(happily), I figured I’d ask you. I recently replaced an 7.1 Onkyo TX series receiver with a two channel Emotiva PT-100 preamp. With the Onkyo I had the gain sensitivity on the Crown set to “high”, and the attenuation knobs two or three clicks from maxed. With the Emotiva, I set the Crown sensitivity to normal, and turned the attenuation knobs back to halfway or less and it seems to sound much cleaner and more resolving especially at higher volumes. What procedure do you use to set your sensitivity and attenuation knob placement to best match the output gain from the system? I’m guessing the higher output gain of the Emotiva is reason it sounds cleaner with less attenuation? Thanks in advance, Andrew. I really enjoy your videos.
Love all your videos Andrew. As a newbie to the hobby these demo videos have helped me tremendously in what i should be listening for. Thanks much for the content!
Hi I've been enjoying your videos for a while but realized I wasn't subscribed...I will be after this comment though. I'm sure Transformers is on the "Banned" list but thats what got me into my home theatre. I definitely enjoyed Dunkirk and for TV I've been watching the Formula 1 show on Netflix. Thanks and keep the vids coming
Not banned. Transformers 2 almost made the list. When Sam “dies”, the slow helicopter fly over has blown many a sub in my home. Great test. Thank you for watching! Be well!
@@KristiWright If you want a drive/race movie with brilliant sound, I recommend Ford v Ferrari! Oscar winning in the theatre, so so good on my home system! Also I got Transformers Dark of the Moon just for the home 3D & Dolby TrueHD 7.1 😄
As a sound fan, I just stumbled upon this video and the way you describe sound is fantastic! It’s very descriptive, understandable and fun. Gonna definitely have to try out those movies with my sound system. Kudos!
Hey, thanks for the diversion! I love Draft Day too. When setting up my surround system the first film I pull out of my very limited library is Gladiator for the opening battle scene. The rest of my library is a little older than even Gladiator. I also have a copy of Seven so thanks for that suggestion, I'll use that as well. Diggin' your channel keep up the good work.
Awsome video, subscribed for this. Acually havent seen any of theese movies 🤣 txnx for all the info and i will be putting my system to the test. Stay healthy and safe. All the best wishes from Norway
Right this second none, though I own a Marantz NR1509 receiver which is quite good. I opt for a 2 channel setup because it’s easy and fits my needs more at this point. I’ve owned quite a few however over the years. Thank you for watching and be well!
Hi Andrew, I bought a Yamaha RX V6A & pairing it with a set of Bose Acoustimas 10 series V. I need your advice regarding listening to loud music on this system. What is your setting recommendation? Thank you
Hi Andrew, This may sound like a dumb question, but in our new house, I'm wanting to put together a nice 5.2 Surround Sound System in for Tv, Movies and Gaming..... Should I keep a Turntable setup separate on its own 2 Channel setup. Shopping around for all of this now and I'm wanting to keep the Surround Sound setup under $3500 and my turntable I'm eyeing now is a Fluance RT85. I just need some sound advice on Speakers. Glad I found your Channel and that BDI Octave Media Console is going to be my centerpiece... Love the looks of that and your review sold me !!
Hi Andrew, just found your channel here and have just subscribed. Love your perspectives. I have just placed an order for a pair of Focal Chora 826-d floorstanders. The ones Focal have just released with the Atmos speakers built into the top. What would you recommend to give them a good test? Thanks Ian
Wow thats a real selection, here's my picks Toy story 2 opening sequence Dredd 2012 again the opening sequence, There is a throbbing baseline at the begining giving the illusion of the irradiated land and then explosive bike squence follow and then the mini gun shoot out. Saving Privet Ryan, yes the beach seen, bu the scene i really like is the when the rain is hitting the leaves slowly morphing into the sounds of the gunfire. Pacific rim, pretty obvious really but the main fight sequence in the middle of the movie loads of subtle details, glass, rock, hydraulic moviement creaking metal sparks and so on, layer upon layer of detail. T2 all of it. A guilty pleaser of mine Passengers, has a lovely airy score when Jim first goes into space Gravity, opening the starting stopping of sound at they touch objects Jurassic park, original all of it and a few other mentions how to train your dragon, gladiator, fight club, final destination, perl harbour, transformers dark side of the moon,
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Amazing film, that paid attention to the fundamentals of film making and got it all right. The sound is spot on in the film. EDIT sorry! yes we're all very well on this end, extending the same to you
I had Netflix with some films included 5.1 icon means the film has 5.1 surround sound. So, can I use this source from TV then connect to my Yamaha RX-A1070 to enjoy the 5.1 surround sound? need help!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews seems to have it all. Great intro music as they enter the bank, awesome echo of dialog inside the banks, and outside a tour de force of bass, treble, and surround effects with automatic gunfire and broken glass. I wish they would remaster it in Dolby Digital, or better now, Atmos...
May I reciprocate your good health wishes to both you and your wife. As a diabetic with other underlying health conditions I am as of today in lockdown. Actually getting the Iowa Class battleships up and running pretty fast isn't far fetched since by law the Navy has to keep them in good enough condition to be up and running in a very short period of the time, in case a big war breaks out, AND they last set sail in the early 90s under steam so they haven't been out of commission for that long.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews No They just have prop munitions onboard and cutaways, they just have a lot of moisture and rust inhibiting equipment in the engineering spaces and on the hull. This one of the few good things Ronald Reagan ever did.
How about some advice or tips for a first timer setting things up? I bought my first system just before this madness and I no longer have the ability to go interact with the sales guys for advice... Example theres an audio delay between my Pre & Power amp that's driving me insane. My towers are being ran separately out their own 2 Ch. Power amp. Thanks for reading
Hey Andrew, point taken regarding Battleships, however man; why not just play ‘Dirty deeds done dirt cheap’ 1979 (Bon is the reason) release on the format of your choice & Rockin’ roll ain’t noise pollution so do turn the volume up. Oh yes I’m an Ozzy citizen🇦🇺 so comprehend your choice fully, do try Iron man too✌🏽 Excessive is a good thing 🤯 Angus and Malcolm will oblige fully - hope your health continues positively
for me i am fascinated by tremendous action in the movie.. i prefer to use 2012 end of the world movie, and Dinosaur movie.. because measure the level of the audio system to recreate the actual scene that will affect emotion of fear, shock, that is reproduced by the audio system..

Wait until a wireless Atmos system is possible / affordable? Just buy the TV and make due the best that I can with what I have or buy a cheap receiver to hold me over? Such a great film!
Great film indeed! My personal go to is Chapter 12 where the guys ambush the German Machine Gun. You can really feel the intensity of it all.
A Leon Thanks mate
Selling HT in the early 90's we had T2 literally playing on a loop entire 10 hours in the demo room. The soundtrack triggers panic attacks now,.
Hit “send” before I was through typing. Thank you for watching!

The movie TRON, also has a great quality sound / soundtrack. Specifically the light cycle battle.
TRON is a good one for sure. I recall many scenes from that film on loop at Emotiva while they were developing the XMC-1 processor (first generation). Thank you for watching.
Bladerunner 2049 soundtrack is amazing for sound quality!
Best to you as well! Thank you for watching!
Short list:
1. A quiet place: Bridge and Dinner scenes - outstanding sound design.
2. Edge of tomorrow: INSANE Base
3. World war Z: INSANE Base
4. Annihilation: Outstanding last scene in a Lighthouse - a bubble of sound effects and music all around you.
5. Identity - John Cusack in constant RAIN and THUNDER for 90 minutes! What's not to like? :)
PS Arrival - Airplanes flying over in the begining, aliens knocking on the glass, creepy alien voices...
PS2 Lights out - Lightswitch on and off! :)
Arrival almost made my list. Great additions! Be well!
@@MrDante10no Is it bad that I really just want to watch Say Anything instead? 😂
@@KristiWright Perfectly fine 👌
Great video Andrew. Thank you and Kristi for the best advice and kind words for us all. I no longer have a surround sound but I go all the way back to 1994 with pro-logic, then 1998 with AC-3 Laserdisc till 2011 with 7.1 Dolby True and DTS master in a dedicated room.
For effects and placement I used
The opening of Darkness Falls
For the same but less (much less) bombastic sound
The whole 3rd act of Cloverfield
I'm sure it's on the banned list but..
The Drum dance in House of flying daggers
The dialogue in A Marriage Story I thought was beautifully presented and centre focused.
Greatest Showman is right up there now both sonically and visually (even fine tuned my Darbee with it)
And one more....
This is a great list. Will def have to check these out. Thanks for being so thorough and sharing.
I have the movie but I never tried them with my current set up. Thanks for giving me an idea for my next movie night!
I have a couple of movies to me that gems:
V for Vendetta: V’s soliloquy is vexing and a very thought-provoking film considering the pandemic
Run, Lola, Run (dubbed in English): just a fun movie
The Legend of 1900: Super story
Das Boot Director’s cut (dubbed in English): One of the finest war epics ever and definitely at the top of submarine movies
Mad Max: Fury Road - several great scenes to pick from
Alien has great sound design. If you want to go off the beaten path pretty much anything from David Lynch will have good sound design
First 15 minutes of 'INFERNO' with Tom Hanks - in native Auro-3d mix (European Import) is the reference of references - Mind blowing.
Yep, I noticed that too. :) Stephen King's Dark tower is also in native Auro 3D, sounds awesome.
For me greatest test is first contact with enemy ship on Master and Commander.
Appreciate the tip! Thank you for the well wishes. You stay healthy as well.
WOW! Nice video and list, looking forward to test them all!
Here's my short demo playlist.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (opening scene)
Bumblebee (opening scene)
Baby Driver (opening scene)
Ready Player One (yes, the race)
John Wick: Chapter 2 (opening scene, NY landscape but filmed in my home town in Montreal)
Some of my home-theater go-to demos:
Speed Racer - The final race sequence.
Thank you so much for watching, Nick, and for the very kind comments. We are all in this together. Take care.
Nick I sincerely appreciate it!
My top ten to test both audio and video of your home theater:
Blade Runner
The Shining
Master and Commander
Dark Knight
Pacific Rift
Gravity
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Star wars pod racing scene
Planet Earth
Eraserhead
Any specific scene from The Shining?
Blade Runner is epic
Great pick with the Roxanne Tango scene from Moulin Rouge. A lot of demo scenes are just loud bass drops and rear surround bullets.
Looking forward to watching 1917 at home. Saving Private Ryan, also concert movies. Metallica,U2, Foo fighters.
Band of brothers has the best 5.1 mix I've heard
Hi Andrew, what are your top 5 recommendations for Dolby Atmos demos? Thank you for the great and well thought out content...
Oh man, you ain't kidding on the Deep Water Horizon. I remember seeing that one in theaters in just awe. Powerful film!
Hulk 2003; desert scene.
Munich; deep explosions.
Mulholland drive; creepy and atmospheric
Thank you Andrew!
Thank you for watching and be well.
Bwaha! I wrote this before I got to the "banned!" part! Totally fair. Like I said...thanks for the recos.
Thanks!
Yes that would be very helpful
I added rough time stamps to the comment I posted. Enjoy!

Another great test is the scene in Jurassic park when the t rex breaks out
a great Dolby Atmos scene is Dumbo (2019) pink elephants dance

Hey, thanks for the diversion! I love Draft Day too. When setting up my surround system the first film I pull out of my very limited library is Gladiator for the opening battle scene. The rest of my library is a little older than even Gladiator. I also have a copy of Seven so thanks for that suggestion, I'll use that as well. Diggin' your channel keep up the good work.

Hi Andrew, I bought a Yamaha RX V6A & pairing it with a set of Bose Acoustimas 10 series V. I need your advice regarding listening to loud music on this system. What is your setting recommendation? Thank you
Hi Andrew,
This may sound like a dumb question, but in our new house, I'm wanting to put together a nice 5.2 Surround Sound System in for Tv, Movies and Gaming.....
Thanks

Wow thats a real selection, here's my picks
Toy story 2 opening sequence
Dredd 2012 again the opening sequence, There is a throbbing baseline at the begining giving the illusion of the irradiated land and then explosive bike squence follow and then the mini gun shoot out.
A guilty pleaser of mine Passengers, has a lovely airy score when Jim first goes into space
Gravity, opening the starting stopping of sound at they touch objects
Jurassic park, original all of it
and a few other mentions
how to train your dragon, gladiator, fight club, final destination, perl harbour, transformers dark side of the moon,
oooh love the Dredd (2012) reference. Sort of forgot about that film. Appreciate you watching! Be well!

I have always been partial to the bank robbery scene from "Heat".
Another classic.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews seems to have it all. Great intro music as they enter the bank, awesome echo of dialog inside the banks, and outside a tour de force of bass, treble, and surround effects with automatic gunfire and broken glass. Will do, or I have been meaning to. Thank you for watching.
Raymond Leggs That’s fascinating! I didn’t know that! Thank you so much for watching.
I did not know that. Awesome. Hold on, does that mean munitions are still on board?
@@andrewrobinsonreviews No They just have prop munitions onboard and cutaways, they just have a lot of moisture and rust inhibiting equipment in the engineering spaces and on the hull. This one of the few good things Ronald Reagan ever did.

Midway, Godzilla King of Monsters, Aqua man, Robin hood and 9.
Solid new release picks for sure! Thank you for watching
