Nestled in the heart of The Lake District National Park, our Ambleside Campus is the only university campus in the UK located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Very fitting when you take into account that this campus is home to our Science, Outdoor Studies, English Literature, Forestry and Conservation courses.
Studying here, you’ll get unrivalled access to a 912 square miles of picturesque landscape - with more than 150 high peaks, 16 lakes and an abundance of unique habitats and wildlife. A landscape of such outstanding natural beauty that it has inspired some of the best works in English Literature, and it has been admired, sung and talked about for over a century.
Our compact and friendly campus is just two minutes’ walk away from the town centre and a bus ride away from bigger cities nearby full of restaurants, bars and touristic attractions. It also boasts an array of facilities, including its own bouldering wall, science labs and an equipment hire department from where our students have access to hiking, mountaineering, upskilling, sailing, kayaking, canoeing and climbing equipment. Not to mention the communal spaces, such as our SU bar - The Struggle, and surrounding fields and woodlands.

Sure has changed since I was there 1972-1975. The Barn was just a big open space where discos were held and Christmas concerts as well as some classes. The Charlotte Mason building didn’t exist, but it’s on the site of our Ed Block. happy days.
