I'm watching this on 16 sept 2023 Bolan has been the single biggest influence on my life., It's great he is finally receiving recognition in the USA for his his influence on so many artists who followed.. Ultimately his music has really stood the test of time and likely will go on forever.

I first heard Marc Bolan when I was 9-10 years old and I liked the album on first listen. When I was learning to play the guitar, Deborah, Child star, Cat black were my favorites to play. He had a unique voice and musical style. There were other acoustic groups, but they were unique. The sound of bongos and guitar and Marco's voice. Today, when I think about it, it's ugly to say, but maybe it's better that he died young than that he's still alive at the age of 70 or more. Never again Marc Bolan. And '77 was no longer that Marc from 68me, 71-74 acuo period and Electric Warrior, "Slider' and Tanks, there was also Zinc Alloy... there was an album with T.Rex sound and the later one was, it was no longer "own". Marc as an old man is unimaginable to me.
Now I am 62 and play guitars 52 y. I listen T. Rex almost every day.

At 17, I got hooked when I bought my first single: 'Metal Guru'. His older work, was hard to get into, but in time grew on me, 'Unicorn', 'Beard of Stars', Hi Fly 2, 'Bolan Boogie', 'Electric Warrior', budget album: 'Ride a White Swan'. 'Slider' was his pinnacle of excellence, 'Tanx', was a change in direction, and a slow grower. From then on, following albums, there's only some tunes on them that stand out. After his passing, I'm grateful to Toni Visconti, The fith member of T.Rex for pulling out his demo tapes, and giving us a glimpse of Marcs unfinished work. 'The Children Of Rarn'.

I'm a fan of the song Jeepster and recently acquired The Electric Warrior album. A very good album by the way. I also came across information about Marc Bolan's sexuality. It puzzled me at first because his documented long-term relationships were w/women. Then, that Simon person confirmed what I'd already suspected. It's funny and unfortunate that Marc Bolan did what many women have done for years. Then, I thought what a clever boy. He definitely had talent no matter what. But he used his looks, charm and the desires of the dirty old men he came across in order to be heard and he used them brilliantly. So, good on him for doing so! Is it just me, or did Simon seem a bit bitter about it? Hey, you could've stuck to business and said no so, suck it up and get over it!

It was unbelievably bad that he used sick men in the way he did. He should not have done this. He should have trusted his talent and God.

Marc lost his way .. very much so. If only he had controlled himself, preserved his relationship with June and kept well away from Gloria .. he may be here now. What happened is incredibly sad. He was undoubtedly a musical genius.

I totally agree she was bad news and also her constant wailing on his songs ruined many of them.
I gather Mr Visconti wasn't particularly impressed.

Marc Bolan was the fabled Lady Stardust of that Bowie song, wasn't he? And wasn't he the Velvet Goldmine protagonist, or was it Bowie?

Fantastic but June Child is better for Mark
Well, it's the truth that everyone keeps silent about. Marc got involved with the singer when he was in the cocaine bourbon phase. He never actually left June, he just entered into a nasty affair with Gloria, which resulted in Rolan and the accident in which he went to play st.Peter

She's not even pretty. I don't know what Mark saw in her. He wanted to change the sound to be similar to the mottown black sound. He was not himself at that stage. And how he lost weight in America. And stopped drinking and cocaine
When Rolan was born, he was still fat.

@@tjcint I've only said what every true Bolan fan thinks but dare to actually come out and say it. With the benefit of hindsight and the passing of years it's clearly evident that getting into cahoots with Gloria Jones was a tragic error of judgement both musically and personally. They say love is blind and that's certainly the case where Bolan and Jones was concerned. I always wonder what Bolan would have given the world if she hadn't driven him to his death.

Gloria's comment about there having been ''many many accidents'' at the spot where the crash happened is not actually true. There hadn't been any at the actual spot at all.. The much erroneously reported accident which took the life of Olympic Sound Engineer Keith Harwood did not happen there either, Keith died in a crash on the M4. The only accidents that had happened in that area were when vehicles were coming out of Gypsy Lane onto Queens Ride and none of them involved a fatality.
