You can't be blamed for leaving your old job. I find it amazing the conditions class 1 drivers are expected to endure. No company would ever expect a salesman to sleep in their car, with no accomodation, food or bathing facilities provided, but for some reason lorry drivers are expected to do exactly that, and work lousy anti-social hours to boot.
Its more infuriating as a truck driver when you have to sleep in your truck, out side of a fancy hotel with no access to the showers, and ask the staff in the lobby if there are really no 1-2 man rooms left,,, and you could have a room for each trucker (group of 11 people, 6 of whom had to spend 5-6 days in the cab's, And it would have saved the owner $$ if he'd gotten 3 x 2 person rooms and had 2 in each. We got payed 9 hrs of overtime for sleeping in the cabs but he'd saved 72,30 eu (78usd) per driver for each night with hotel rooms with everyone getting their own rooms
@Lisa MacGregor If you mean who won it, the Baddie was Red, played by Patrick McGoohan, I think he was the regular recipient. There are several DVDs on eBay for less than £ 3, I may get one. Also look up "IMDB Hell Drivers", there's info on the film. Hope this helps?.
Great videos mate you have great enthusiasm and attitude and can see your an asset for any haulier company. After 16 years in a corporate environment Im going for my level 2. Cannot wait!
Luke, thanks for the vLog, After 30 years in the bus & coach industry, (mostly behind a desk!) I have just taken my Class 2. I have an interview tomorrow for a Tipper job and your video has been insightful. It looks more fun than I imagined! Plenty of variation and as you said, handy for home and not nights out which, whilst I was very open to that idea at first, seems to have very few benefits.
If I were to pack my job in to drive trucks, this is exactly what I would want to do. Class 2 tippers, some might find it boring, same run time after time, but I do similar anyway. Just that I’m an engineer who visits the same sites most of the time
I really miss the tippers, I loved it... I'm on bin wagons now because the tipper work went quiet but it was brilliant when it was busy.... great video mate
i have just passed my class 2 licence and just managed to get a job on the tippers, i hope its as much fun as it looks here. i havent been this excited to start a job in about 10 years.
So pleased your happy Luke I've not driven for about 8 months now class 1 is over rated, better to drive somewhere your going to be happy I've never done tippers, there is a firm near-ish to me but I've heard some bad reports about them so I'm still not desperate to get back in to it
Swindon is 3-4 hours away from me! And can I say you were tankin it just after you mentioning about your house XD Glad you have found somethin you like doing !
Welcome back to the muck shifting, that haul road was wet it looks like you had a lot of rain up there. I drive a blade, it's been alright where I am down southeast Essex, but the new automatic lorries you lot drive nowadays are causing the main problems. The older manual ones just have no issues. Automatic ones get stuck very easily.
That’s got to be the funniest unintentional bit of you tubing I’ve ever seen “it’s like Philip Schofield” (I won’t repeat the rest) so wrong but so funny! Crying here! 😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks Luke enjoyed your video. Never seen so much mud. Hopefully you get the job Good luck Hope it goes your way. Take care and stay safe John Whitehouse
I did 18 yrs in tippers ..then3 yrs on class 1 container work.. only as a day driver.. absolutely hate the job now.. ridiculous long hours and poor pay so I’m returning to tipper work next week.. yay
I am trying to get on tippers in my area. I am having a hard time with 3 years HGV 2 and a recent HGV 1 pass behind me. Did you have a CSCS card when you applied, or did the company put you through it? Which exact card is required?
wheelerd02 I only passed my class 2 in December all paid for by myself. I then spent 2 weeks phoning all local companies in my area until the one I’m with now we’re willing to give me a chance. I haven’t got any cards other than the standard CPC
hi luke keep on trucking iv been on the pallet network for over 5 years and now just joined the tipper crew iam on the volvo fmx 430 20 plate and well i love it hope u got the job
Dont you dump the suspension too, I drove an artic dump truck and always dumped the air, mind you thats in Canada, where the trucks are so backward, ie, old drum brakes, not discs.
Hi Luke, Hoping you get that job, it's making you well happy and that's the main thing. I don't find this boring at all to watch by the way, I actually prefer construction trucking whether it being low loader or in this case, tipper work. Great video as always! All the best mate 😁👍
Hi guys just passed my class 2 and have interview for tipper work. I'm wondering if its to bigger job for me as trucks look so much bigger than 18 tonne I learnt in. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
I drove 8 leg Day tipper for sand/ballast company in Portsmouth and didn't do muck away with all loads across weigh-bridge. Prior to that did drive for RTJ and as a "newbie" I got stuck and overloaded. Do you have tip body with weighing? Cemex sites were a pain
Dont care what people say about class 2 work, I love watching the videos there so much more interesting rather than seeing one long road get to a job then the same long road back ect ect
Looks like a fun job. I myself have always wanted to try driving a tipper. Maybe in the future! At least you did find the perfect job for you Luke! :D Happy for you :)
might sound like a stupid question but when u were on that wheel washing machine at 16:32 were u driving the lorry back and forwards or was it the washing machine that was moving u?
Ahh I hate that hill Luke, I have taken a 15 metre double deck coach up there. Safe to say I will never do it again. Meet a truck coming the other way, and that was tight to say the least.
Great to see that you like that kind of work, that’s half the battle. hope it works out long term for ya!! I love off-roading so it looks like good muddy fun 2 me! 👊😎
Are the revs too low while off road? Burn the clutch out with the revs bouncing around too much at low RPM OFF ROAD Even auto boxes will burn clutches out especially off road. Revs should be kept high so rev counter is kept stable & not bouncing around. What I do is ether keep it fairly high in low gear. Or pin it & put into neutral & roll out the worst ruts & puddles. Learnt that from driving RoRo’s at Landfill where the terrain was awful at this site I used to go at. Had a clutch warning come up, due to excessive heat. So changed my driving style & never came up again.
Iv startes the ball rolling for my class 2 , and considering goimg into the aggregate side of it rather thsn the multi drop delivery side of it ,, any advice on how to get on with companies ect ,?
Are you on load bonus at that firm or just an hourly rate or day rate Luke? Some tipper firms In Manchester where I drive a tipper have load bonus on top of your hourly rate
Hi Luke. If you realy like diving tipper trucks, then have you ever thought of the guys who drive the articulated tippers like the trucks that take rubbish to landfill sites. Maybe you will like that.
@@davey5780 that is British money, lived here 35 years, it all depends on who you work for, experience and where abouts, naturally the North and Wales will be paying less than for example London, better to ring up the companies see if they've got work but you'll struggle to get 600+ a week up north I imagine, best of luck.
I cant see why you wouldnt get the job as long as you dont give them a reason to look elsewhere and do the work required. As long as vlogging doesnt slow you down and you are getting as many trips done as the other tippers do I think they will offer you the job, being local to the work place is an advantage too as they know you "should" be on time for work every day.

I suppose it's not so bad if you haven't got a wife and kids at home though right.
@@maverick4220 Fair point, but I would guess the majority of drivers are supporting a family

Anyone remember the film " Hell Drivers" 1957, Luke's trips remind of it.
Good to see you working the wheel.
Thanks for sharing.
@Lisa MacGregor Good point, I had forgotten that 🤗

I don't remember that film but do remember Smokey and the Bandit, particularly the song "Eastbound & Down."
It's unreal how much class 2 drivers have to work! Luke your doing the right thing doing tipper work.

Glad u back mate, got to do what makes you happy . I'm a multi drop van driver , I love it . Really hope you get a full time job mate . Good luck
As you tip and pull off your pile, let the door slam hard, keeps it a bit cleaner and more likely your auto door locks will engage every time👍

I’m a class 2 tipper driver and I absolutely love it, doesn’t feel like work for me
what sort of wages are there on class 2 tippers mate?
Dominic Ioan not the best but I’d rather do tipper than multi drop etc, I take home about 600 a week if I’m away all week

Luke I know this is an old video but how did you learn all the stuff to drive a tipper?
Luke , does them 8 wheelers have double skinned chasis or have a sub chasis on them?
Are the volvos tipper any good?
Are the revs too low while off road?
Burn the clutch out with the revs bouncing around too much at low RPM OFF ROAD
Even auto boxes will burn clutches out especially off road. Revs should be kept high so rev counter is kept stable & not bouncing around.
What I do is ether keep it fairly high in low gear. Or pin it & put into neutral & roll out the worst ruts & puddles.
