Best to avoid netting the shakers (and certainly don't let them hit the deck). Once juvenile salmon lose any scales, they won't survive. Just shake the small ones off over the rail without touching them.
Thank you for the tip Nannan. I will remember for when I'm fishing salmon in the future. I'm on a Salmon hunt now so perfect timing. Thanks for watching!
So epic! Mikey! happy for you! The determination and dedication hard work rewards you a beautiful fish congratulations braddah enjoy your catch! Yessah!
Another great video Mikey. Congrats on getting you Solo Skiff Salmon, nice size rock fish compared to the ones we get here at home. I finally got my first Solo Skiff yesterday, got it on the flylined sardine I told you yesterday I caught along with some Macs. Also got a legal sand bass on a salas6x blue/white jig. All were released. See you out there again soon. I tried calling you on the radio, but it's like not transmitting. Don't know what I did wrong on the set up. I like my older radio, but it's hard to use when the screen goes black.
Thanks Mark. It's always a pleasure seeing you out on the water and progressing along with your Solo Skiff. I finally figured out squelch with my radio so I should be easier to get ahold of OTW.
Immediately subscribed after watching this video on my recommended page. Congrats on the first salmon, I hope I can one day fish like you and also catch my first salmon. Great vibes and great look with that salty crew, you rock it well. Much love coming from Davis
You're the man Nicholas! I love reading your comment and really appreciate the love and support. I got that lucky Salty Crew Hat for Christmas the year before. Davis isn't too far from Shelter cove and some other great fishing areas. Keep fishing and progressing! Tight lines buddy!
Yes! I like you're thinking. I'm working on some subscriber giveaways. I was thinking lures and I'll add fresh fillets to the list. Stay tuned as I progress on subscriber giveaways. That is definitely a route I want to go to give thanks to my subscribers.
Thank you Mark. The Solo Skiff is an incredible vessel and Shelter Cove is a special place. When you put the 2 together magical things happen. I am so blessed. Thank you for watching!
That was a awesome fishing video congratulations on the salmon looking forward to seeing more adventures on the solo skiff by the way I have a solo skiff they are great fishing machines
You’re the man Kevin. This is on my list of spots to go to. I just scoped it out on google earth and it looks incredible. Let’s meet up and fish it. Thanks bro! Tight lines!!
Thank you so much for this comment. I love telling a story through my RUclips video so it makes me feel really good when I get feedback like this. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@@SDFishandSips Monterey video was an excellent video also. If I may ask, when squidding, you mentioned 70 feet depth, go anywhere to 70 feet and start, or is there any particular spot after you launch?
Hey road. At that specific time the squid were at 70’ depth in that area. Since then they have gone away. I’ve caught squid in 80’ of water further south in San Onofre and La Jolla. The squid are a little tricky but it helps to hear from people where they are or see commercial squid boats with lights in the area. Hopefully the squid come back. I’m dreaming of a winter time squid bite in San Diego soon!
OEX in San Diego (Kearney Mesa) is the local dealer. I was on a waiting list and it took about 2 months. All kayak, solo skiff and boat manufacturers are behind and often have waiting list due to the Covid19 issues. If you want anything get on the list cause it's only likely to get longer on a lot of brands.
Correct. OEX is the local San Diego dealer. You have to go through a dealer and can't get it direct from Solo Skiff. My understanding is they are backed up right now and struggling to get new Solo Skiffs to San Diego to satisfy the high demand.
Thank you OC Run. Yes I camp right down in the Cove at the launch lot by the fire pit. I was more confident in the diver rig then the downrigger at this point in time but I’m now focused on practicing with the downrigger. Both for Salmon up north and Yellowtail down south. Thanks for watching and the support!
@@SDFishandSips that's cool. I'd like to see how a downrigger works for yellowtail in La Jolla. Good luck. I might follow your lead and do a camp at the Cove. Hope I catch my dinner. Maybe drop a few pots.
Will do. I’m always interested in meeting new people and learning from them. I think I’m done with Shelter Cove for 2020 but will be returning in 2021 and I will give you a shout. Thanks for reaching out and thanks for watching!
Let’s do it Greg! I know some guys and gal with Solo Skiffs and a Powerfisha 16 (10hp motor!) that are big fans of Shelter Cove. Let’s try and make some May 2021 salmon happen at Shelter Cove. Maybe Eric will have the Gimme Shelter tournament there this year?
@@SDFishandSips Yep, Been fishing there with Ariel for 10 years now. I'm sure I know the rest as well. I knw Anthony recently got a solo as well as Ariels wife.
I love it! So crazy how all the pieces of the California fishing puzzle are coming together for me. I can’t wait to fish with everyone. 2021 is going to be an epic year!
I hope all these fish I see people catching don't go to waste.I sail, dive, and can fully appreciate you'r lifestyle.Very informative and instructive.
Thank you!

Yeah buddy! Crazy going from yellowtail live bait and jig fishing to Salmon trolling dead bait. But that is what makes California Fishing so amazing!
