Battle droids are the epitome of automaton cannon fodder. Sometimes playing guys who are “the worst” in a game can be fun as hell. I play a group of Traitor Guardsmen and Chaos Cultists in old Kill Team. Hit the max for the number of men you can field. They are “The Howling Maniacs” and are the worst. I use no tactics and just rush, shoot, and stab my way through the battlefield. Can’t recall ever winning a match with them, but I have a hell of a time playing them : D
Pratically they're SW's equivalent for skeletons, the paintjob is pratically the same, normally I give a black base, then white leaving a thin black line to give a better definition for markings, so the colour stick out better (old White Dwarf 's trick)
It's not likely to come up, I'm afraid. It's a bigger miniature and just doesn't have a lot of use on my table - I don't ordinarily get these things for free, unfortunately!
They look great. I've been looking forward to this since you posted the sneak peaks on Twitter. Surprisingly easy how to get good definition. I wonder how these 3D prints stand up against the Star Wars Legion sculpts. (I haven't been too thrilled with the quality of some of the Star Wars Legion plastic.)
They're pretty good, comparatively. I don't see any major differences, except for the prints coming in with heads that're in one piece rather than two for the plastic kits! 🤪 Nuts to assembling an army out of those guys!
I personally find the sculpts he painted here for the B1s to look better than the official kits. As far as quality goes, the later releases are all hard plastic on sprues which are very nice, but the early releases (and unfortunately most of the Rebel and Imperial factions) are all softer plastic.
Wonderful tutorial. I really appreciate when you show the fastest way possible to do things and still make them look great. Thanks for all of your tutorials!
Vallejo reds are amusing. There's Red, Flat Red, and Dark Red (and that's just the three that I use most often). And of the three, I'd say Red is the darkest by half a hue (and Flat Red definitely the lightest). Also, thanks, because of you talking about "just Red", I realized that I had picked out the wrong red for my next step :D
These look fantastic and as horde will be awesome. Probably a great starting project for any first time painters getting into the wonderful world of miniature gaming/painting.
I printed some of them and due to the fact that I was trying to use up my resin (so there were only dregs in the tank) and my fep is also dying they didn't come out great. Also I tore out some limbs during support removal. But hey, I can chop them into pieces and put them on some bases! This is what I get trying to cheat my "I won't buy any Legion models before I paint a certain amount (as it's no longer a number, lol) of the things that I already have either bought or printed" rule, I guess. And I do want to get some Shadow Collective models. I hope that the next batch with new resin and new fep comes out better (still, I promised myself that I won't buy new resin until I the 3d printed stuff I already have is painted). Either way, this fast and easy method "made me" try to print these guys in he first place :D. It's nice to be able to see the effects and feel the accomplishment in just a few minutes :)
As long as there's useful STLs out there, eventually, sure. It's a little easier for me to print a miniature to paint than it is to get a box I'm going to paint just one or two miniatures from!
The other thing about battle droids with battle damage is that they are broken battle droids. B1s weren't known for their ability to take any kind of hit and keep fighting.
To Coruscant? That doesn't compute. Eeeeh, wait. Eeeeh, you're under arrest.
WHO IS ROGER AND WHAT DO THEY WANT WITH HIM????
I shudder to think what'd happen if we ever found out!
But the real question is how is Roger and why.

Wow, at the end on the spinny thing my brain was having crazy synthwave/Tron color scheme thoughts.
may I ask if they are same size as the plastic ones
Yup, they're exactly the same. They're 3D prints, anyhow, so if you want to rescale them for other purposes they should work alright.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio that's good I'm looking at some of their clones for my army

Haha that's very true
I would think doing battle damage on B1 battle droids is a bit unnecessary. If you damage a battle droid you have probably just destroyed it already.
Shame they didn't do droid body with c3po head lol!!
I love it but man now sonic sledgehammer is gonna blockade my planet.
Great video, can you do the wasteland warfare fog crawler?

Really helpful!! Many thanks

"What's our vector, Victor?" Oh, wait, wrong film...
Have you tried Pocket Dimension Studios battle droids?
I've seen them, but they're a little silly for what I usually like to put in my armies. They're nicely done, though!
Amazing result….great tips, thanks!

Great video. Refreshing to see someone show how you can paint effective looking models with minimal effort.
Droids, engage photo op mode!

These B1 Battle Droids are looking great my friend .
Are you planning to do more painting guides for the other separatist units?

I think I'll follow that paint scheme for the rebel 2 legged walker in the starter box.
Very simply but super effective paintjob!
Roger Roger ! Very good video. I did the same thing with my battle droids.
Thank you , Troy .
🐺
Super cool
Excellent guide to painting these.
This was a neat tutorial and the figures look great! Thanks for sharing this.
You could paint hundreds of Space Marines in this color scheme.
Off-white or bone armour would be really easy, for sure! Maybe a coloured shoulder trim and then their bolters... yeah, done! 😂
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio exactly.... Work smart not hard

Keep the SW legion going! Do you think you'd do an army?
Would that I had the space for all the armies I'd like to do...!
Wonderful result, I am just about to start painting mine, so this was useful.👍👍😉
Looking good!
I would love to see your take on Geonosian battledroids
