I am Registered Nurse, caring for seniors with dementia, in the community, it is so heart warming to see how you chose to take care of your dad, at home your patience, your love and care of your father is so great and rewarding. You are teaching so many care givers how to deal with their loved ones who have dementia. Redirecting, reorienting and answering the questions consistently the same no matter how many times he asks the same question and with the most loving and reassuring way. Your dad must have been a very kind hearted and loving person himself. It shows in his interactions with you.
Keep up the good work and may the Lord bless you abundantly beyond measures for what you are doing.
    Great job 👏🏽

Wow, Lee I’m going to use that one. My boyfriend we met two years ago is always hovering over his money. He retired two-years-ago and has SSI, Pension and Investments. We are the same age 69 born in July. But my boyfriend has an old 2009 car he drives. Old carpeting in his home it needs upgrades and I’m like why are you holding on to money like that? He’s very conservative. From now on I’m gonna quote you. “No point in being the richest guy in the graveyard.” Maybe he’ll understand that better. I want to get married next year he does too. Anyway…great quote makes sense!

I would rather see a man not want to spend money than to spend it until it's gone. My stepdad has been a spender for almost 50 years and my parents are in their 70's and have no money left except what they receive from their SS and maybe some retirement accounts.
Having that security is sometimes hard to let go of.

Dan, thanks for the explanation of how you got here. Wanted to say that I know many of us who watch y'all are dealing with loved ones who are starting to be effected with dementia and not always sure how to handle it. Your videos have been super helpful for me and I am sure others. I am 69 years old married to the woman of my dreams who is 74 for 48 wonderful years now. Since coming off the vent during covid on October of 2021 she started having memory problems. Every month is getting a little worse. Our Neurologist are involved, but not much they can do.
I basically said all of that to tell you many of us are getting inspiration in walking through and handling this terrible disease. Your openness, your love for your father and the way you, your wife, and your family handle your dad, helps many of us who are walking this same path with a loved one. So know this, you are positively helping untold thousands of us watching this. Thank you Dan for following your heart, sorry you had to go through a heart attack to get here, but I will say your heart pain is helping to sooth the heart pain of so many facing this. A friend of mine once told me that dementia is known as the "long goodbye" because you loose a little bit of your loved one every day, and I for one am glad you have started this channel. Pray you, your family and especially your dad are blessed for doing what you do to help others.

Thank you for saving yourself and enjoying your life Dan. This risk of heart probs or sudden collapse was EXACTLY what my Alzheimer mom's medics warned me would happy to me if l didn't adjust the intense focus on caring for her. They saw the signs of fatigue in time and advised me to take time out.
Your daily videos of your beloved dad has helped me recover immensely from a deep sadness l've kept locked away in my heart from that isolated era looking after Mom. No one to live through it with me either then or now.
Well done - you ARE helping people in the same situation 🏆 The fact you have revealed your heart attack makes the family story even more meaningful. 💝

I almost went down hill when I lost my parents I thought I would end up in a mental hospital. Then I got breast cancer I thought well it’s impossible to recover, but I did. At 72 I found out I can still work and be functional. I work as a caregiver (PCW) I can do this my strength come from above he allow me to care for myself and others. Prayers for you Dan because of what you do for your family and you help your dad.🥰

@@mariela8040 I do music therapy once a week at a local aged care home. One lady I visit with gets visits from her family once a year on mother's day...... the loneliness for some of these people is what does them in. It's sad.

@Nicki W I totally agree, my Aunt had Alzheimer's for 15 years and lived at home with my Uncle for over 12 years. He was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and they both were moved to a memory care assisted living facility, my Uncle progressed very quickly and was gone in a year. The caregivers many times go first, it is very stressful. Making the decision to put your loved one in a facility is really hard and I can assure you that they were not discarded, they were safe and cared. We all visited them regularly along with the other residents. As a nurse you should have a little more compassion and until you have walked in our shoes, please do not judge, we are all doing the best we can!

Everyone does not have the resources and time to take care of a loved one with dementia at home not to mention the toll it can take on one's physical and emotional health. And when there is an issue of safety, I encourage placement.

Thank you for the video Dan!I appreciate your story & how things happened. It helps others to maybe take the leap to prioritize their lives & get rid of debt. I'm thankful you did for your family. My Dad had an aneurysm in the middle of his brain at 40 & almost didn't live. We moved out of the Bay Area & moved to our vacation spot in Lake County, CA. Both of you were great at providing for your family, but at what cost? The doctor told my Dad "you can be the richest man in the graveyard" and "they don't put pockets in caskets!" I only wish I didn't have to work & could've taken care of him at his home. He had enough money for me to do so, but my sister was hell bent on getting it all. Unfortunately both my parents died in a Nursing Home & my sister a few months later. I found out it was from alcoholic liver disease...liver failure. It is what it is, she was impossible to fight, even bringing false elder abuse charges against me. So sad because my Dad deserved so much more. God bless you for protecting & providing for your Dad. I love your videos💙

I loved the four parts of your excellent reasons for choosing this path in your own life after having a heart attack! All reasonable and correct for your health and quality time in the caregiving role with your dad & mom! I have greatly appreciated your sharing of daily life with this horrible illness of Alzheimer’s! Taking away the stigma Cancer used to have, when people still think they should not say my dad has Alzheimer’s, there is still an unrealistic view of negativity surrounding this illness! I don't understand why; it's no different than having Cancer or any other disease; taking the Stigma away, I believe, will change many people’s opinions and concerns about having it or their loved ones having it and make everyone more open to discussing it like any other illness, as a regular part of being human and the aging process of living to be 91! I salute your resolve in your time and efforts to make sure you are careful about only sharing the most critical parts about letting people “age in place” in loving homes with family members and not in human warehouses called “Nursing Homes!” 🦋

Dan…you have no idea how much you are helping me. My cousin has dementia coming on two yrs. But the dementia is coming on faster than expected. It is so difficult to know if we are doing the right thing, saying the right thing to help her not go thru trauma everyday as she asks why am I like this? This is too hard I want to go to heaven now. She is only 75 but she feels like her life has been taken away…no more driving…having workers come to see her and she thinks it’s invading her privacy. You see she has most bad days but on good day she can tell someone exactly what she is feeling and I get yelled at and sworn at and 10 mins later she is apologizing. God bless you and your family for helping your sweet old dad. I will continue to watch and see what else I can learn from you who has been thru it more.
