Fisher's Shop
Cannot endorse Drew Fisher enough. His projects are well engineered. His presentations are like that of a professional narrator. And best of all he is HILARIOUS!
Ditto! One of my faves.
Love his videos and his outtakes. He does a great job.
His outtakes are hilarious. Reminds me of when I go in the shop
There are 2 stickers in my workshop. WWMM and Fisher's Shop.
I love Rex Krueger, same approach for low cost and simple woodworking, but focused on manual tools
I'm going to build his English jointer bench
Rex's channel is growing fast, too!
I was also going to suggest him ^^
I didn't even know he was a "small" channel, he has the same standards as the big guys and I just never noticed I guess.
Yes, love him!!! And I did some digging, he lives super close to me lol
Woodshop Junkies is a great channel by a South African guy, a lot of his content is about building out a shop in a small space.
For me it's nice to have content from someone around here as we don't necessarily have the same materials or tools some of the makers have, e.g. I see a lot of 11 ply baltic birch plywood, but around here we don't have that, we're stuck mostly with 5 ply marine plywood with a good side and a bad side which you sometimes can't even tell apart.
Wanted to mention WJ too!
If you're in GP - Check out Board King - they do all kinds of board including birch ply and many others - and they deliver
@@R3apr Thanks I'll check them out
Me too. WSJ
Derick Thompson what?! Epic! Thanks!
Rag'n'bone brown is one of my favorites at the moment
He have good channel, love his workshop and projects
Yup,I was going to mention Rag n BoneBrown too
I enjoy Pask Makes. Fairly honest about his projects, they are more involved than Steve, But I think think he and Steve would get along.
The doyen of Aussie woodwork! Not sure he counts as a small channel anymore but everyone should check Neil out, he will blow your mind. Not a beginners channel but super down to Earth guy. Great suggestion.
yeah hes real cool
I am really loving Tamar's content from "3x3 Custom". Shes a genius when it comes to jigs and figuring out how to do complicated cuts or joints easily.
Yep, love her videos, she isn't afraid to show screw-ups either!
Agreed
Thanks for the reco! Just started one myself and would love your feedback, just posted my 2nd video
I've been posting videos little over a year. Always wanted to be creative and make things so my channel is based on being a beginner and having a mix of projects and wood carvings and some unboxings of tools. Thanks you were one of my inspirations to get started.
Rex Krueger’s ‘woodworking for humans’ is a great take on building your own super basic hand tools and getting started with almost no investment.
Paul sellers
I will likely never get into hand tools, but I still enjoy Rex's channel a lot. He's a great teacher.
After watching Rex Krueger's, Paul Sellers channels i have started to use hands tools . I never thought that i will use hand tools.
I love Rex, I bought a Japanese hand saw a few months back because of him, and I love it
Chris Salomone and Jonathan Katz-Moses are two of my favorites. Chris makes some very unique and beautiful furniture and has some great humor. Katz-Moses has great instructional material (he does sell his own line of products) for joints and everything he builds.
Chris and his buddy are awesome
Woodshop Junkies is an amazing channel! He makes some of the most innovative solutions to working in a small workshop and is really interesting to watch! John McGrath is also a great channel to watch too! Scott Brown Carpentry and Rag 'n' Bone Brown are also fantastic.
Thanks for the reco! Just started one myself and would love your feedback, just posted my 2nd video
Fisher’s Shop! Great content and he is hilarious!
Yes, it's like Mark Twain had a you tube channel...
Steve Ramsey- Wood Working for Mere Mortals ... something like that
Sounds good! I'll check it out!
Yeah, that Ramsey fellow's good, reminds me a bit of "Stevin Marin," wonder whatever happened to him...
I started my channel a few years back and have seen a jump in views since the lockdowns started. I haven't posted in the last year or so as I've had some personal stuff going on, but I'm actually planning on getting in the shop this weekend and working on/finishing up a couple projects. I have under 2000 subs currently, but I'm proud of what I've put out. I hope you check it out as you were one of my inspirations to start making diy type videos. Thanks for the great content, I'm enjoying the daily stuff!
"Home Built Workshop" is one of my favorite wood working/maker channels. He does a live stream each week, discussing tools and projects etc, and not just his own, but viewers' projects also.
Steve, I just want to say thank you for the lockdown series. I am sure it's a ton of work to push daily content. That said, it's been the part of my day I look forward to the most, besides getting in my own shop each night :) I've been missing your regular content since you pivoted to the Weekend Woodworker classes, BUT, I would have done the same as you and hope it's been even more successful than you hoped. Just good to have throwback content for as long as we get to have it! Cheers!
I started making projects roughly 2 years ago and, Steve, your "Basics" videos were amazing help when starting, they are really good. I have a tiny space for my projects and I can't have much dust there as it is not a proper workshop. But as I also make projects with electronics and only smaller woodworking projects, the tiny jigsaw table with a crosscut sled, rip fence and a router works quite well. I even had to custom made a portable disc & drum sander as I don't have permanent space for it, haha! So yeah, that is me in a nutshell, keep amazing work Steve love your videos! :)
of course i really enjoy watching a master at work Paul Seller.. everything seems very masterfully done
Essential craftsman , DIY Builds, Pask Makes.
I really wish youtube would still let us organize our subscriptions. My list has grown so large with all the little guys i enjoy watching that i can't remember right now
I just discovered Third Coast Craftsman. He does a lot with hand tools. Really quality videos.
forgot to put him on my list! With his shop-dog, Utz 😀
Thanks for the reco! Just started one myself and would love your feedback, just posted my 2nd video
Here are a few smaller channels I like; DIY Minded; Make Things; and Down Under Woodworks; Also the planter looks like it's going to be a winner.
I like WoodWorkWeb - Colin Knect. Lasting Build, and DIY Montreal. I've actually built a few of DIY Montreal's builds - and love that she's a female woodworker.
DIY montreal is a growing channel with excellent content and a humble woodworker. SlavMakesStuff is another Canadian woodworker/metal worker with only a few but fantastic videos that are short and concise builds. Both like yourself Steve, give the viewer the confidence to try their projects.
‘Mikes wooden things and stuff’ is definitely a great channel as well as ‘A Glimpse Inside’. Both of these guys are great to watch and up and coming. Easy to understand and fun to watch.
Matt Estlea's is my go to video when I've forgotten how to set up my plane. He is brilliant and seems to know everything there is to know about hand tools
he is such a decent bloke. He is a teacher at a woodworking school, still very young himself but has a great skillset and knows how to teach it o others (although he's not much of a "real builder" considering his mezzanine floor series - which was hilarious at some point 😀)
Andy Phillip is great, love watching the wood turning process.
Rex Krueger, Marius Hornberger, Jeremy Fielding, William Douglas Co., Wood by Wright, DIY Creators, Blake Weber, 3x3 Custom - Tamar, Bevelish Creations, Darbin Orvar
William Douglas 👍👍
Wood by Wright, finally someone who names him too!
Matt Estlea is a good one to look at
He's great and very funny, terrible carpenter, but fantastic wood worker.
If you want information about hand tools, he is very informative.
@@michaelmiller5177 Yeah, I never could understand how Matt could make furniture, but not a wall.
Gid Joiner - probably the very best practical channel by a very skilled artisan. He marches to the beat of his own drum.
Gosforth Handyman, 10 Minute Workshop (Peter Millard), Rag'n'bone Brown and Badger Workshop are a few of my favourites
You forgot the Badger workshop. All four in my favourites.
@@hansdegroot8549 how could I forget! He lives about 3 miles away from me 😂
Badger workshop is nice little channel for small spaces.
G'day mate 😉 greetings from downunder. I watch Dave Stanton, he's an Aussie bloke who was a builder, who now does a live stream every Sunday morning on RUclips here in Australia.
As a side, I have a poster that you sent to me many years ago in your early days.
You and yours keep safe and well. 👍🇦🇺
Nick Zammeti
Only other word working channel I watch. British, funny and has some really good (and sometimes bonkers) ideas.
Used to be a woodturner, but in recent years does through in a the odd other project, and he also does a lot with resin.
Definitely worth a nosey! :)
Next level carpentry, Matt is a wizard. It's high end but his work is simply gorgeous 👌
Marius Hornberger, Winston Moy, Hooked on Wood. Okay, Marius is bigger and more established, but IMO criminally underrated.
Agree!
Absolutely agree. Marius Hornberger is among my favorites on RUclips.
Yes. I am glad he's posting content again.
Marius H. is like the Mark Rober of woodwork. Awesome videos; less than a dozen a year.
Bent's Woodworking has been the best woodworking tutorial channel to learn from for me. Specifically his cabinet making videos.
Hi Steve, you can check Badger Workshop 👍
Really good watch. Very calm voice
Frank Howarth has some fun stop motion wood working videos. I love the way he edits his videos.
From the UK we have Badger Workshop & Rag'n'Bone Brown and from Croatia, Andrea Arzensek - from Uruguay, Elias Maximiliano
Yes - big shout for Badger Workshop too... minimal tools and great use of small space!
Badger workshop!!
Hey Steve, I have been watching Rex Krueger. Really well done videos and has a ideal much like yours.
You don't have to be rich to be a woodworker. I totally endorse his content.
John McGarth man in shed. He is brill. Look at his metal free leg vice. And Matt Inglot I think he is going to be an up and comer. Most of you will have seen his advert on RUclips for a new pod cast "Art of the build". Thank you for putting this question to us.
Pask Makes is one of my favorites. Pask uses more hand tools than some of the other channels do. He is a joy to watch. Kinda like Steve, very down to earth, doesn't have all the fancy tools and explains what he's doing and why. Even shows his mistakes and how he corrects them.
Also DIY Creators, although it's not a small channel anymore. But the guy builds some nice projects and he started out making his own jigs and some of his tools. You can get some good ideas there.
I enjoy watching Samcraft. He helped me see how easy it is to install a window in my shed.
There are so many good channels. One that I particularly like and doesn't have a ton of followers is Down Under Woodworking. Vic is really innovative and does straight forward presentations. Also 3x3 Custom is a young lady that hasn't been around long but is catching on. She has a knack for figuring things out and explaining her process. Hope you enjoy them. Thanks Steve!
Loads I like of the English guys have already been mentioned and I think as they are based in the U.K. where the RUclips numbers are generally smaller (apart from a certain shed mechanic!) they all fly low enough numbers like badger workshop, Gosforth handyman, rag and bone brown and Peter Millard (10minute workshop) but I found woby design the other day, not many videos and he’s got a lot more subs following a recent video with Katz-Moses but what he makes from creating lumber from recycling skateboards is really impressive.
Love what you are doing with the space at the moment Steve. Is very organic and free flowing while still keeping the essentials of woodworking for normal people.
Thanks for “keeping her lit” as we might say around here.
I like Matt Estlea , classically trained in woodworking and has a good channel.
I also have a channel but have not been active for about a year due to a family problem, back to it now and will be uploading again soon.
Thanks Steve for keeping us entertained
Bent’s Woodworking has a cabinet series that is honestly my favorite cabinet instructional video on RUclips. He breaks it down so that it’s so easy to understand. He does have Festool products and a custom made leather apron. But if you can get past that lol he has some really great educational content.
BYOT is also really good. It’s not just woodworking though. More of just an everything DIY. But he has some great projects. Very niche though. I wouldn’t necessarily build his designs exactly but I get a lot of inspiration from them.
One of my favorite channels is CHEST’ER that belongs to a Russian woodworking and upholstery master. Really love it.
For a no-nonsense woodworking and joinery channel, my go to is Gid Joiner. Just a really good joiner who films his actual work jobs and explains his thought processes on why he's does things a certain way. No fancy workshops or camera equipment, just good solid advice and easy to understand explanations. Well worth a look.
I’m going to miss this content when the lockdown ends.
You can watch it over and over again. And remember the good old lockdown time.
One minute workbench - best diy track saw I’ve seen
Here are four channels I like.
Gunflint Designs, Shop Nation, Woodshop Junkies, Alexandre Chappel
Gunflight Designs is great. He's a real charmer and includes the kids and wife :)
Steve thank you so much for cranking out these videos. We all appreciate it and know it takes a lot of work to make, edit and upload these videos. Your making this crappy situation we are all in tolerable with having something positive to look forward to in my day. Thank you!
Other than your channel, the only other ones I tend to check out with any regularity are:
*WoodWorkWeb*
*Stumpy Nubs*
*The Den of Tools* - The bear doesn't really show the how-to that much, but does tell us about new tools available and where sales may be going on so you can save some money when making new tool purchases.
Walmart (Hyper Tough) and Harbor Freight (Drill Master, Chicago Electric) have a few cheap angle grinders for under $20. You'll probably want to invest in brand-name cutting discs for them, though. I just don't trust cheap blades, but maybe that's just me. I bought the *Drill Master Corded 4-1/2 In. 4.3 Amp Angle Grinder* last year for cutting corrugated tin and steel sheets, but still haven't gotten around to actually _doing it,_ yet. =)
Yeah, Stumpy! Go get yourself a cold one, 'cause you've earned it. my friend!
I also like Colin K's channel WoodWorkWeb
10 minute workshop has to be my favourite channel. Got me started on my wood journey. Lovely fella too.
"Gosforth Handyman" has some really good bits of advice in his videos and is a fun watch as well.
"Eric Sorensen" does not have high end equipment so his videos are helpful for DIY-ers.
"Peter Millard"'s thumbnails are more than a bit overwhelming, but there is good content in the videos and Peter gives a lot of background information about his thought process.
Recently I found "Next Level Carpentry" which is a slightly bigger channel and worth recommending, for example his video on drawer construction provides great detail.
From the less known ones Korean channel "망치소리 Hammer sound" has some unique shelf construction ideas (frames combined with thin ply on top including curves).
I also watch this Korean guy "ViTTEN / 비튼디자인", he does not talk but the videos are detailed enough to see how he constructs his cabinets or door frames. He is a bit "different" and not everything he does seems "correct". Also his equipment is a bit out of reach of us mere mortals, but there are valuable bits one can distill from what he is doing...
Next level carpentry is a good channel.
Andy @Gosforth is fantastic.
I love 'Gosforth Handyman' he's a funny guy and very honest about his trade
Next Level Carpentry is a hidden gem. Dude has a wealth of knowledge.
ViTTEN is always an interesting watch.
Saw a video from Bourbon Moth recently. Clear, easy to follow and doesn’t take himself too seriously.
Justin Depew and The Offcut.
I’ve watched their entire anthologies, is getting new videos from them is like Christmas Morning.
I can definitely second the suggestions of Matt Jackson (Next Level Carpentry) and Third Coast Craftsman. Don't know if they technically fit the definition of "small woodworking channels" but well worth checking out.
For the Dutch and German viewers:
Diy thosa
Laura kampf
Dutch shed woodshop
Cornerfield shop
I second for Laura Kampf (not that the others are not good but I don't know them yet)!
Laura Kampf is also for international viewers.
Steve did see the smaller channels, everybody knows the big channels and Laura is quite famous and has a large following.
Great video once again! An alternative to the false bottom is to fill the unneeded soil depth with styrofoam (blocks, peanuts, etc) or packing. This is often done when using an existing or as-purchased planter when the full soil depth is not needed. Keep up the good work!
Alexandre Chappel is a fantastic maker and his videography is top shelf.
William Douglas Co. is one of my favorites right now. I live my professional woodworking life vicariously through their videos
I'm a fan of DIY huntress. She likes to build things with only a few basic tools. Does some great, creative work.
That makes two. (well a little bit more I suppose)
Found her recently too, really like her content.
Wow, just checked her out... She has more tools the Jimmy Diresta LOL So much for "few basic tools"!
Thank you for the suggestion! I really liked her channel :)
‘Management by walking around” was a popular trend in management books in the 70s. I had a boss in the 90 who always wanted to walk with you for serious discussions. I also worked at a place where informal staff meetings were held as part of a walk during lunch. I found all of these approaches pretty effective!
I really enjoy watching Scott Brown Carpentry adn i also like Mike Farrington
Hi Steve! I recommend wortheffort channel really, really hard. As you ,Shawn is a great practical master and both are interested in teaching, not only show that things can be done as many, many others. Thanks for your valuable work!
"Mike Farrington" - he's a furniture maker from Colorado
And not so much woodworking, but "Colin Furze" - I call him the Internet's Mad Scientist.
Thanks for the recos! Just started one myself and would love your feedback, just posted my 2nd video
I love Mean's Workshop. Normal guy making stuff on a budget. A true mere mortal!
I'm not entirely what you would consider small, but here are some that I like, some of which have already been mentioned:
3x3 Custom
Bent's Woodworking
Bevelish Creations
DIY Montreal
dk builds
Eric Sorensen
Fisher's Shop
John Malecki
Michael Alm
Rex Kruger
One Minute Workbench
Pneumatic Addict
Shara Woodshop Diaries
The Newbie Woodworker
Woodshop Junkies
You Can Make This Too
Tamar of 3x3 Custom does nice work in her garage shop.
Tamar of 3x3 Custom does nice work in her garage shop.
I follow pneumatic addict (just made a folding workbench this weekend) and woodshop junkies. Really like the stuff woodshop junkies does. His workbench is amazing. Wish my brain worked that way.
I like 3x3 Custom and Mike Farrington. Both channels are good for different reasons.
Loving the daily uploads, Steve! I love watching April Wilkerson and Andy Rawls. Been watching them for years not as long as your channel though!
April's awesome. Not exactly a small channel though.
Rawls is very good, but he’s nearing 500k subs.
I stopped watching April when she started doing minutes-long promos for a stoopid video game that's nothing to do with woodworking.
I started my channel "Making and Fixing" after a few years of watching your channel, April Wilkerson, DIY Creators, Modern Builds and a few others. I never knew anything about woodworking, as I was thought since small that girls don't do woodworking! After learning woodworking from all these channels, including yours, I realized that I really like woodworking and fixing and making stuff. So I want to thank you for all your videos, that are both entertaining and educational. Hello from Malaysia!
The best acknowledgment of the walking conversation is in The West Wing where two characters are walking randomly, finish their conversation and realize they we’re each following the other to no where. And then just end the convo. Also, love the content. Keep it up.
It's an Arron Sorkin staple!
Several years ago we purchased the full series of The West Wing. It came with lots of additional commentary. A great Stuck at Home show.
@@rickmalamed7731 If you like that, you should check out The West Wing Weekly podcast. It's done now, but all of the episodes are available.
I particularly like the Russ Veinot channel. He is quite capable of producing great woodworking artifacts but his real forte is tips and tricks for working with jigs, tools and putting thin materials together in structurally sound, long-lasting fashion. He has a knack of devising simple solutions to produce great accuracy using everyday materials instead of the $100 tools most of the other woodworkers want you to use/buy.
I had a director of engineers that would frequently stop by my office and say, "Lets go walking." We always had great trips throughout the office and parking lot discussing mostly the engineering challenge of the day but frequently just because he would get migraine headaches that walking and talking would seem to help.
Scott Brown Carpentry is a really fun to watch guy from NZ would recommend
Really enjoy his videos, I am not a carpenter, don't want to do carpentry (I like small scale wood working) and live about as far away from NZ as is possible, but he makes a great video with great music. Never knew DIY/Building/Carpentry could qualify as chill out, be Scott makes that possible
Under Dunn!! the alter-ego of Aging Wheels.. dude is hilarious and just kinda starting out in woodworking.
Really enjoying John McGrath's channel.
Dick Edie I second this, really clever ideas
@@dandriscoll802 Yeah his vise design is awesome.
HonestWork Design is amazing, and her channel is primed to explode. She deserves much more exposure than the 2k subscribers would seem to indicate that she has received.
Farmcraft is great fun, too.
Some other channel advices :
John McGrath
Heritage Craft
Nonor copain des bois (in french with a swiss accent !)
Andrea Arzenzek
Cactus ! Workshop
Martin Séguin Parlons bois (canadian french)
Justin Depew
I like "Woodworking with DIY tools" channel. Simple and interesting projects with basic and DIY tools.
Inspire Woodcraft is a good one.
That's a good channel for sure
I like Dan from The Newbie Woodworker (a lot). He resembles Steve with interesting topics and humour. He resembles me with all the bloopers, so there is a connection :p. KUTGW Dan (and love to see your build of the drill press table).
Neither a small account nor beginner oriented, but Ishitani Furniture make build videos that are enthralling. I find The Newbie Woodworker has a similar ethos to WWMM.
Hey I'm a Maker.
He has become one of my new favorite channels and is just shy of 1k subs. Most of his projects are pretty practical and he doesn't fuss with anything other than what you need to know. He even has some puzzles!
Looking forward to see the planters!
Three woodworking channels that I'm watching a lot:
"Rustic David", "Lasting Build" and "Man in shed" (John McGrath)
Spending the time to make videos every day during this lockdown period is not only very entertaining but highly commendable of you. Nice one Steve!
"Fake bottom" (*Like an Instagram model) ---- I see what you did there.
About your intro inquiry, I once had a supervisor when I was a student that had a CRAZY busy schedule. So, in order for us to get anything from her we would follow her around in between classes discussing any doubts we had or we would wait for her by her car. I once even drove with her to run an errand and had to wait in the car while she was doing said errand. It was bonkers but we were so used to it I never found it odd.
Hi Steve I highly recommend 3x3custom - Tamar. Great beginning woodworker and oh yea, she’s a GIRL. How awesome is that ?!
Thanks! Was trying to remember that kid's name. =)
Art, I really love her channel, but I thought It wasn’t small enough.
achimboers he said a few hundred thousand followers and she’s right there so I was going to include it.
Marius Hornberger is pretty awesome. He has 250K+ but it has a very small shop feel to it. Inspire Woodcraft has practical advices. And although you're not into finish carpentry, Finish Carpentry TV is quite good. Oh, and Scott Brown Carpentry from New Zealand.
Do I qualify as a smaller channel? Not sure what is the cut-off... 🤓 👍
Whether you qualify or not, I've been subscribed for a while. Great content!
I just checked out your channel and subbed, looks pretty cool! Thanks
I have also been subbed for a long while. I enjoy your videos a lot, Art!
Wordsnwood (Art Mulder) saved some of your vids for later. Some good content on there it seems! :)
@@davecoates2308 Thank-you, and welcome!
Everyone recommended some really good ones. I don’t think I saw 3x3 Custom on the list. She does some creative projects.
My recommendation for a small up and coming woodworking channel is "the bearded woodworker"
Thanks for checking in again Steve
Thanks Rawl! So cool of you to do that!
I am a fan of "peter millard" because he uses track saws. He does very clean and smart looking work.
I am also a fan of stephan pohnlein . He make clever jigs.
Lastly . I find andreas kalt to be a good youtuber. He is very thoughtful
So many comments... I'm sure these are in there somewhere... But I recommend:
I Like to Make Stuff
3x3Custom
Pneumatic Addict
I was hoping to find 3x3 Custom and Pneumatic Addict here. Great shout!
He said small channels.I like to make stuff has almost 3m subs
Really enjoying the daily posts. Appreciate the work you are putting in. I enjoy Gid Joiner. About 11000 subs. No pretences no over production just solid salt of the earth work.
Get Hands Dirty, Alexandre Chappel, Dekay's Crafts, Jonny Builds, Komar Project, Nick Zammeti, Woodshop Junkies, Pask Makes...oh god i could keep going there are so many good ones :)
agreed, the list goes on and on
Jordan Frank - impressive bench design ("The Octopus"), and funny. Hoping he does more, soon. His few videos blew me away.
I Simply Built It - a little dry, but excellent jigs and projects.
Shop Nation - solid shop projects
Woodshop Junkies - Jean is a sharp guy. He's working in a tight space and his designs are legit.
LastingBuild - a good all-around channel. Varied frequent content.
hahahahha *like and Instagram model
Did anyone else catch that?! Killin me Steve!
Also Steve, check out Fisher's Shop, I like a lot of his videos
I love that I was working out how I wanted to make garden beds just like that. Perfect timing
P.S. I have some friends that are professional roofers and they have recommended to me that if you turn a blade backwards in a circular saw it works well for cutting corrugated metal without leaving it a total mess and binding up the blade
