She lived the first fifteen years of her life in Mogadishu, until 1991, when she settled in Sweden, as a result of the conflict in north-east Africa. She is founder and executive director of the Horn Heritage Organization. In the last five years, she and her team have made many archaeological discoveries, which feature in her numerous articles and chapters in international scientific publications. Sada believes that cultural heritage is a basic human need.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. I commend Sada for her work as it can only have a positive impact on everyone. As a Jamaican , I appreciate any African who is uplifting the African race and telling the story that early day European colonist wanted to erase from History. Surely DNA and archaeological finds have proved the African race as the building block for all other races.

The Somalia she's talking about pertains to the pre-Islamic era better known as the jahiliya period for any Muslim. As an anthropologist, the essence of her job is to delve and dig deep into such ancient cultures and societies. With that said I don't know how some people can come to the conclusion that she's a murtad/apostate just from listening to this clip as if the two are mutually inclusive. Unless of course, there's something am missing. Anyhow, May Allah grant her the ability to serve His purpose on this earth to the best of her ability and the same goes for us all. Amin ya Allah.

Many indigenous people believe that places that matter are larger than that which a person may build walls around or a municipality may survey and create artificial boarders. But it may be said that a single person, municipality or corporation has legal ownership and the right to use (exploit) for their exclusive benefit. Sacred space succumbs, then now, here there and change ensues. That which was sacred is lost but for archaeology to retell.

I think she is trying to link archaeology with cultural knowledge and stressing the importance of studying ancient history before Islam. It is important to know how the ancestors lived. It is done in other places Greece, China, South America. Why not Somalia?

That is the most depressing thing I've ever heard. I was wondering why there weren't many medieval structures left, so there was a culture of seeing remnants of older eras as disposable when big things happened to somalis?
There are many medieval structures left, the reason why you don't know much about it is because not much research is being done in Somali regions to begin with due to the civil war and insecurity. The "looting culture" described is definitely exaggerated. You can find countless virtually untouched historical sites in Somalia and other surrounding Somali regions if they're actively being looked for, in-fact many locals are even aware of them.
@@prism0_0 I've hard a lot of anecdotal evidence (from family and friends there) that the vast majority of medieval sites situated near populated areas have been damaged/looted during the civil war. Somali towns are very old and have been inhabited for centuries, there aren't too many big sites in the middle of nowhere.
I agree that there is a lot left (especially underground) but some of the most impressive stuff has been destroyed.
Hopefully as the war dies down we can reconstruct what we've lost - as you've said we have a lot of evidence left behind.

Most of the archaeological sites have been found in Somaliland, with only a few in Somalia, there is no whitewashing, no hidden agenda, just basic fact. The history of Somalia is civil war, colonial kickstart, and stuff like that. Somaliland, before it came to be known that and was instead known as The Sahil, was the centre of the historical and cultural background of somalis. Therefore this is the History of Somalis, not a political entity that can be dissolved, but an ethnic group that has been around for thousands of years.
23:21 they are found in Warsengeli/Dhulbahante lands which is Somalia, and much of the history in North is In Zeila, Awdaland etc which are Issa/Gadabursi land and as you know Awdalland, Saylac&Lughaya State are all non-issaq regions who are Pro Somali and claim Somalia.
