I really love the song (and musical!) and how they arranged it, including choosing to showcase Scotts amazing vocal range in it. I feel like whenever he has solos people always complain about it and don’t really appreciate him. Also, to me the arrangement did not sound boring at all - the background vocals and Kevins beats and the baseline were all very masterfully executed and sounded plenty exciting for me. I dont think that there has to be a huge surprise or twist in every song they do, it doesnt mean the arrangement is boring. Not for me at least. But it’s all subjective at the end of the day :)
Also, I think that many of them can really relate to the message of this song which is probably why they chose it.

Haha I had the same reaction near the end of the song, I don’t think anyone was expecting Scott to hit those notes 😂

Dear Evan Hansen was written by the same team that wrote The Greatest Showman songs - music from which is in your intro. Haha! I hear you about the videos sort of looking the same BUT this is a song from a musical so the setting worked for this particular song. Also - I feel that their niche is being acapella and being able to see them all singing at the same time and see who is singing what clearly (especially for those who are new to them) is more effective. I have a feeling it also has to do with budget - they can film more videos and film them faster (they have crazy schedules!) when the video is simple like this.

Yes, that is very true, I agree. Although for example Attention had this different set up, colors, it was different. But who I am tocorrect them haha :D And about The Greatest Showman - I LOVE IT SO MUCH

Obviously, I can’t speak for Pentatonix, but I feel they chose this particular song with purpose! Go back and really listen to the lyrics again. It’s about a teenager struggling with his feelings of belonging in this world. His anxieties and fears and depression of feeling like he’s trapped inside himself watching the world pass by him through this metaphorical window(smartphone, etc.) and not finding happiness in or seeing himself relating to any of it.
I feel they chose to sing this song as a message to let us all know that we all struggle with this at some point, even them, and it’s not about necessarily fitting in with the outside world as much as it is finding the happiness within and living your true authentic self.
    Yeah....DEEP!
I’m so proud of them for deciding to cover this song and share this expressing their feelings through this song with us. It’s so powerfully beautiful and encouraging.
I hope this conveys a little more meaning behind the song choice and hopefully more people will embrace this heartfelt song.
Much Love to you, sweetie ♥️

I understand that yet again the choreography in this video is redundant and underwhelming. Not much of a wow factor and same ol’ same. Maybe they didn’t do much with it in this video so as not to take away from the message?? That’s all I can think of. Though, they didn’t necessarily have to do a video for this particular song because it is just so inspiring, I’m glad they did. It’s always nice to see their beautiful faces and get to watch my favorite reactors like yourself watch along 🥰

    Hi, neighbour! :)
I understand where you're coming from. I've never heard this song before either and on the first listen, my rection was mostly the same. And it's not gonna be one of my favorites, but it's growing on me the more I listen to it. It was a lot more "acappella" than usual for them and the "Glee" feeling was definitely there :D.
The thing is I suspect that the reason this feels less exciting and doesn't hit as hard in terms of arrangement is because this is a musical theater song with a lot of feeling in it. "What Is This Feeling" is a fun song that tells a story, but it's more on the light, comedic tone. This one has a very different mood to it and it's really about the lyrics and the performance in terms of emotion. So I think that might be why they chose to do the song this way.
And Scott's voice at the end definitely sounded like a very improved mix. I am curious as to how he sounds live doing it, but wow. You're not the only one who stopped and stared :D. I mentioned this in my comment on their video, but I actually had thoughts lately about Scott maybe slacking on his higher register since he's obviously been focused on improving his bass. And I hated thinking that, because he's my favorite. It's like he knew what I was thinking and decided he's gonna throw that thought into my face :D :D. If that's the case, I hope I will have a chance to apologize to him in person on this tour :D.
I appreciate your honesty. I'm still pretty new to them and I'm still in the phase where they can literally read from a phone book and I will stare at them in awe. Lol, I'm really not hard to please. I do agree that this was average by their standard. But considering where their standard is...I think we're good :D :D :D.

They are an acapella group, so you stand and sing...that is what you do from batbershop quartet to a 100 member choir. It shouldn't change unless you are making a video like "Rather Be" which shows them walking around. Though in reality they were standing and singing and not romping through a Japanese Market when it was recorded.

Not true - "Can't Hold Us" for example as a proof. It's not about standing, it's about whole set up

Scott is showing off his range. I loved the impact of his low intro in Sound of Silence, and now is full throated chest voice at the top of his range. He constantly blows me away. Thanks for your reactions. I can tell you simply live for music. I agree with you about their videos recently. I'd like them to invest in more production value in their videos. I love the look they always bring, and they always kill it. But if they want to be thought of as a mainstream act, they should stretch their creative approach to videos. I understand limiting movement when singing live, but they aren't usually singing live when shooting their videos. They could be doing anything with them. On a less critical note, the song is very powerful, when shown in context. Check out ruclips.net/video/REIOnCTwjF0/видео.html

Well, the song has great depth to it but maybe it needs context. Not really sure because from the first time I heard it I understood it & loved it. It's about watching the world through your window, metaphorically. it's about social anxiety & introversion. Being scared to ever speak up or participate, to feel like you have nothing to contribute. The first verse spells it out : "Learned to slam on the brakes. Before I even turn the key. Before I make the mistake. Before I lead with the worst of me" which describes the fear of saying the wrong thing & why it's easier to say nothing or do nothing. Just letting you know what it feels like to people who struggle with it. The Dear Evan Hansen play has been acclaimed critically for it's dealing with mental health. I haven't seen it but I love the soundtrack, I think Pentatonix did great but to each their own. Ben Platt did this song originally, there's a video of him performing it on Late Night with Seth Meyers & the notes in the end are part of the song. Oh, edit, the play is based in highschool with students, Evan has social anxiety problems, so I see where you get Glee from.

Sometimes a group has average songs and it's okay. Also, ptx has always really had the same setup, standing and singing when you think about it. They were standing a lot during Christmas because of Kirstie's ankle. Also ptx volume 4 was all standing and singing except for bohemian rhapsody. I think they don't want to do anything different for their singles that aren't going to be on an album. Honestly, some songs are just boring. I don't think it's them lately because the tour choreo is really out there and cool, the arrangements for high hopes, shallow, and their new medley's are really different. And they gave us a great original song and they plan to give us more so I'm not really worried about the new music. Every artist has a flop sometimes. Honestly, I thought attention and perfect were boring last year but I loved most of the top pop album. I think they just need to take their tour ideas and turn them into videos. I actually really loved this cover (though I wish mitch or Kirstie sang the solo), but it might just be because I love the musical so I'm biased. Maybe we (the fans of ptx) should get together and write them a message about wanting different videos. If we all come together I'm sure we can get them to notice, like create a hashtag on twitter and a thread so people can share their concerns respectfully. lol. Anyway, thanks for the reaction and I won't blame you if you don't read this entire comment.

And this summer tour they made is a bit boring. Sorry, but i was expecting seeing Kirstin sing more. And then they sing almost all of their past songs which i found a bit bored. I was expected to see new covers and they just did "Shallow" (AMAZING!!) and "High Hopes". The rest we knew they would make. (Sound of Silence, Come Along...).
I think their past summer tour was best. Just my opinion! I still love them (of course)!

I preferred the other summer tour.
