When this came out I was sure that the words were "I kneel before the one eyed monster that keeps us both alive". I still think that's what he's singing.
Yep, that’s in fact what he’s singing. The little bit right after “it’s so fine, it’s sublime, just take me to the fun factory” is a bit of a mystery though.
I have the 12' version of this. It came out years later on Captain's own label Deltic Records and the B Side had some solo stuff from the Captain. The Curse of the Damned strikes again. When they should have been flying high the record company goes bust. Then they do the Young ones with Nasty. and It's not in the shops cos it was a B. Side to Thanks for the Night. A song the captain had already recorded as a solo record. They sure did have a lot of bad luck but now they're making up for it and doing better than all the others.
I’ve loved this song since I first heard it as the b-side of Captain’s “Riot On Eastbourne Pier”, back in the very early 90’s… but I’ve never in all this time been able to fully understand all the lyrics. Here’s what I’ve got. If any of you can fill in the blanks (or rather the question marks), please do so in a comment. “Won’t you take me on a video nightmare, yeah. The pictures, they will play (Hey-hey-hey, it’s okay, we can play fun factory) ‘Cause I’ve been to hell and I’ve been back, all in the period of one day (Hey-hey-hey, it’s okay, we can play fun factory) I kneel before the one-eyed monster that keeps us both alive It’s so fine, it’s sublime, just take me to the fun factory Life is ??? all our pleasures, just grin and turn a dial Well it’s me you should see just scream into the fun factory So let me take you to a place ????, a place I’m sure you’ve seen (Hey-hey-hey, it’s okay, we can play fun factory) The talk is cheap, you know the guns are roaring now… ???? (Hey-hey-hey, it’s okay, we can play fun factory) I kneel before the one-eyed monster that keeps us both alive It’s so fine, it’s sublime, just take me to the fun factory Life is ??? all our pleasures, just grin and turn a dial Well it’s me you should see just scream into the fun factory I’m losing my mind, squandering my days We’re wasting our time, ?? away… take it away! I kneel before the one-eyed monster that keeps us both alive It’s so fine, it’s sublime, just take me to the fun factory Life is ??? all our pleasures, just grin and turn a dial Well it’s me you should see just scream into the fun factory” X2
I bought this on CD single when in came out in '91, never knew the story - thanks for the back story. GREAT SONG!!! I always thought at the end of the song the female voice is saying "I'm ready to do the dirty" Can anyone confirm that lyric????
Sometimes this sneaks its way up to be my favorite Damned song.
Really like this song, great band.

Yep-the'Belew-ish' guitar is by Fripp himself (so technically it's Frippish)...
Mr Robert Fripp on Lead/Mental Guitar

I always thought Nasty should have been the A-side.
Robert Fripp!

Oh yeah, and that little sampled bit at the end… it sounds like she’s saying “I’m going to go back to the danger”, but again who knows.
I have the CD single, somewhere... Wasn't R. Fripp credited as guitarist? Great song anyway!
That's definitely Fripp at the beginning.
@@richardjamieson6681 This is hat i like the least in this song, sounds like an improvised part.

I only heard it on the radio. I didn't know that it ever was released at all! Color me jealous.
To me it always sounds like she’s saying “I’m going to go back to the danger”
@TheBleech I stand corrected, your right mate, apologies.
@RedBryn hahahaha i did too, i still sing the same now tho!
At the end the woman is definately saying "I'm going to go back to the deckchair"
@zigois It is " I'm waiting to go to the dentist "
I think you will find that Paul Gray replaced BrynMerrick in1980 ish, for the Black album...
No, Paul Gray replaced Algie Ward and was then in turn replaced by Bryn.
Who can hear the guitar in this song? So buried in the mix (excellent song, nevertheless)
More of a keyboard song, end result. Yeah. Top 3 Damned song. Had the blue vinyl.
Robert is doing the crazy roland guitar synth stuff, it sounds more like a keyboard…
@@redline2115 ok, I see! Thanks.
overproduced and boring. Sorry guys lol
Why you say sorry like your OPINION is going to sway my opinion of it?
Lol this… coming from someone whose username is “Grimly Fiendish” 🤣🤣🤣
Gotta love the irony in that.
