- You have just been pulled over by the police! How SHOULD you react? How should you NOT react? Driver's Ed Zone takes you behind the wheel for this important tutorial on the proper interaction with an officer during a traffic stop. When being pulled over by the police you should remain calm, be polite and understand that everyone involved wants the experience to be safe. Whether you are in California, Texas, New York, or Pennsylvania the interaction with the police should follow the same guidelines. If you live in Germany, Egland or another country the police all have the same goal and that is to enforce the rules and keep everybody safe.
Good video. A few years ago I was pulled over at night in a very bad part of one of America's biggest, most dangerous cities. I had gotten lost and made an illegal U-Turn to try to get out of a very bad neighborhood. I was immediately pulled over by a police officer of a different race. I did exactly the steps outlined in this video and turned off the car, put the keys on the dash, turned on the dome light, rolled down my window and kept my hands at 10 and 2 o'clock on the steering wheel. The officer appreciated the things I did to keep him safe and he gave me a warning, told me how to get out of the neighborhood, told me to have a nice night and sent me on my way. It's amazing how well things go when you are polite and respectful and obey the law.
Super advice I’m thinking of buying extra mirrors to help me reverse is that a good thing to do.? I need confidence.

I like your four tips. What can you do if a police officer is making it very hard for you to follow them? I was in a situation where it felt like the officer was trying to escalate the situation, so it was very hard to remain calm. He also seemed to really want me to say something that I knew was not true, and I was unsure at one point if he was ever going to let me go if I didn't. Is there something someone can say to a police officer if they feel that the police officer is acting in a way that is going to escalate the situation? Understandably, people are hesitant to say anything that might upset a police officer, but also do not want to let the situation get out of control, and that can be a very difficult situation to be in.

Rule #1 never speak to the police unless required to do so by law. Any qualified and experienced lawyer will tell you this. They ARE NOT pulling you over to be your friend. Comply and be respectful, yes, but do not incriminate yourself.
Luke you are more than welcome not to speak to the police in a traffic stop but the lawyer advice is to avoid self-incrimination as you said. The steps we discussed in the video are designed to keep people safe. Traffic stops due not have to be a dangerous event and our goal is that everyone comes out of a traffic stop safe. In reality, things go wrong because people do not adhere to these simple rules.
This is like a fairy tale stop. He didn’t pull her out of the car, throw her on the ground. Handcuff her and tell her to stop resisting and drag her to the back of his patrol car. The cop didn’t bust up her car searching for drugs, tell her she will go to jail unless he gets a happy ending or anything. This video is like Hollywood fake.
FDR The passenger in the car is a retired state police officer for 20 + years. We have had many discussions about what happens, unfortunately, in some stops between police officers and drivers. There are bad actors in the law enforcement community that don't adhere to what transpired in this video. We also went out of our way to show the driver being compliant. In 99% of cases, the officer and the driver's actions are cordial and respectful from both sides. This depiction shows how both sides should act, and if they follow these rules, everyone should be safe from traffic stops.
@@DriversEdZone I don't mean to sound smart but the video says "98%". Has the statistic gone up to 99% since the video was published?
@@rameyvision Half of those things don't happen in real life, and the other half doesn't happen if the person keeps calm and doesn't start shouting at the officer and such. The common thing with all of the videos about police using force to arrest someone is the person resisting the officers and just generally being unco-operative and hostile towards the officers.
And then in the real world, he kills the passenger for being a black male for .
Perspective bias is a bitch, isn't it? Must be hard living in a world where a vast majority of police encounters do not result in arrests or physical encounters but the only kind of media you ever consume is showing the opposite. You need a reality check.
You watch the MSM way to much man. They always try to show those incidents that rarely happen btw.
