There's lots of Americans like this, changing a blown tire on the side of the road for strangers, pulling them out of the snow or a ditch. All you have to do is leave the big blue cities and they are plentiful. My hunch is that this fine young man is a church going country kid by the way he speaks and carries himself.

But, I've spent a lot of time in small towns and was raised to help those in need by my parents. You can go along painting everyone with the same brush the rest of your life, but just know that you're bound to be wrong plenty of times. Best to judge people on an individual basis rather than making broad judgments based on trivial criteria.

Tow companies make most of their money from insurance claims, municipal towing and doing repos. Pulling cars from a snowy ditch is time consuming and a liability to property and safety. Company I worked for if we couldnt winch it, we left it. So i doubt a company would waste time on a lawsuit over jobs they didnt want

I did a very similar thing in my tricked out 4x4 jeep here in Alabama during the 2014 icepocalypse. I help over 15 people that got stuck and one school bus. Keep in mind we dont have salt/sand trucks or snow plows because ice and snow are so rare here.

Ive pulled a couple of people out of the snow because i have a truck and its fun. One guy actually paid me 50 bucks and I was so confused, kept saying i dont want it, the guy ended up going over and putting it in my car despite my protests. I ended up taking the money, but i never expected to make any money at all doing that stuff, was a real shock
When I bought my first 4x4 at 19 living in the midwest I remember my Dad telling me “now you’re obligated to pull someone out of the snow if you come across them”. He was right. I always did. Still would if I had a truck and lived in the snow. It was always fun and even better that you can help someone.

@@alexcole9890 its all tires. 2wd with snow tires can do 100 times more laps then a 4x4 with the wrong tires (summer compound). We got about 24" total here in the past month and I have not even shoveled my driveway, never got stuck once and its a 2wd car - snow tires.

But tires is where it all starts - the best driver in the world is not going to push through 8" of snow in a Miata 3-4" off the ground as he was explaining he did without snow tires. Would love to see a 4wd car with all seasons keep up with him with 2wd snow tires. Once had a guy with a 4WD SUV during a snow storm at a party talk up how good his truck was in the snow, I told him if he doesn't have snow tires he has nothing. I had a awd car with snow tires, with half the ground clearance - low enough it plowed its way down the street during this storm. Well talk led to a race - witnesses in each car. We were side by side on a wide block with no parked cars, I went extra far to the side in the deepest snow and a passenger counted down. 2 seconds of getting going he was already gone in the mirror - I get up to about 50mph or so then slow back down to a stop at the end of the block - look back he is still not even half way. Meet up and its excuses - I got more traction at the start in the deep fresh snow - it was slippery for him in the rut etc. lol ok we switch lanes - same result but afterward he is so salty he wont even speak about it as if it never happened. Pretty sure I smoked him because of the tires and not my skill, thats all I'm saying.

It feels great to help people out! There are too few people that are willing to help a stranded motorist the saddest rescue I have done was an elderly couple the man was trying and trying to change a flat tire (for 2 hours) his elderly wife was holding a small umbrella over him it was pouring down rain and she was cold & soaking wet I pulled up and took over I asked the lady to get back in the car to warm herself up NOPE she stood by her man and held the smallest flashlight (it was a keychain ) so I could see too. It only took me about 15 min to swap out the tire. While talking about this couple I still have tears in my eyes now when I say they were the sweetest most kind and gentle duo I have ever come acrossed I refused to take any money from him I would have been happy with just a hug.

I did the same thing about fifty years ago. It wasn't fifty-three cars, but it was quite a few. I had good snow tires, a good car, a heavy tow chain, snow shovels - I even had hot cocoa for whoever wanted it. It was great fun, and I didn't even make the news.

I did the same thing about fifty years ago. It wasn't fifty-three cars, but it was quite a few. I had good snow tires, a good car, a heavy tow chain, snow shovels - I even had hot cocoa for whoever wanted it. It was great fun, and I didn't even make the news.
