A new study reveals that smartwatches from 15 brands contain harmful 'forever chemicals' linked to cancer and hormone disruption. Researchers from the University of Notre Dame examined 22 watch brands and found that 15 of them contained high levels of PFAS, chemicals commonly used in the production of synthetic rubber, which is a popular material in smart and fitness watch bands. While the specific brands involved were not disclosed, some of the tested watches were from major companies such as Nike, Apple, Fitbit and Google. The European Union has proposed a ban on PFHxA in consumer products, including watch bands, due to its harmful effects.
