Me a white girl that nobody had ever taught this was tired of my hair being DESTROYED every single night and was tired of having to re wash my hair every morning for it to look nice. Sleeping in a bonnet for the first night tonight thank youuuuuu!!! I’m sure this will work wonders and save me so much time in the mornings finally I can shower at night!
This video was so helpful for me, I’m a white woman who is 18 and I’ve never tried a bonnet for my curly hair before and I’ve recently began to start taking care of my curls seriously so I decided to buy myself a bonnet and I didn’t know how to put it on so I searched on RUclips “how to put on a bonnet” and this was the first video that came up and it was perfect for me, I’m the only one in my family who has curly hair so this channel is very helpful for me 😊😊😊
As an 18-year-old man who has naturally long, thick curly hair, thank you nobody taught me anything about how to take care of my hair properly for reference my dad is bald and my mom has straight thin hair
I cannot thank you enough for how thorough your videos are! I started my transition about a year ago and I think the hardest part has been trying to find what works for me. I have very long, very dense 3A hair and the thing that has caused most of my struggles is the other curly hair influencers speaking as though the way they're doing it is the BEST way to style or wash or apply products. Thing is I live in Louisiana, where the humidity is off the charts and my hair is a foot longer than all of these other girls, so their methods just never seemed to work. I am so very appreciative that you always mention other ways to do things, for different hair densities and curl patterns and lengths and climates! Your videos are always better for me because of this thoroughness 🙌 Thank you!
Medium-coarse mix of bigger spiral and slightly tighter coils here! I love pineapple with Invisibobble. My curls underneath are the tightest and sleeping this way helps them to relax just enough to match the rest of my curls more closely.
I have curly hair and i HATE sleeping whit curly hair but being white i never thought of wearing a bonnet. I brought one on shien and i did not knew how to put one on ty for the tutorial 😁
thank you so much for this. as a white male growing up having shorter hair and not knowing my hair was curly i really havent known how to care for it. ive only recently realized that i actually need to take care of my curly hair. this was helpful
I had my hair buzzed for a couple years and when i grew it back out my hair texture had changed a lot, barely figuring out my curl pattern and texture thank you for the help! :)
My issue with the bonnet is it does not stay on my head. I put it on then I go to bed and I wake up the next morning & the bonnet is on the floor & my hair is a mess.. 😣
Could this have anything to do with head shape? I have the same issue. I have an adjustable drawstring bonnet and it falls off at least once and I have to be careful not to move around too much while I sleep. I also have always had issues with elastic headbands and scarves staying on. I have tried them all and nothing stays if I don’t pin it. I really want a bonnet to work for me because the pineapple is stretching my curls and I’m thinking of going just short enough that it won’t fit in a pineapple.
I have curly hair and my mom but my mom was never taught how to take care of it since her mom had straight hair, but im trying to learn how to take care of it since now we have proper technology, ty for this video
I have wavy hair, but my hair has ZERO volume. After watching some videos about bonnet, I decided to buy a bonnet. Thank you for the video! very informative.
Just curious as to how you keep your bonnet on all night! I just purchased a satin lined slap-cap from a company called Grace something. It has a drawstring in addition to the band of elastic which really helps. I just wish it were easier to put on. I’m thinking a bonnet would be easier to put on - I’m just not sure it would stay on! I know I could use clips but generally I find them uncomfortable! Just wondering if there’s a bonnet, cap, scarf and/or method that would help!
Thank you for this video . I didn’t learn I had curly hair till I was 30 years old so I’m still learning to care for these beautiful curls . Thank you!
I'm a white 29F with curly hair and only JUST RECENTLY found out that you're not supposed to dry brush your curly hair. 💀 That explains why my hair is always a hideous frizzy, dead mess on non-wash days. So, yeah, I have a lot of hair care stuff to re-learn, and these videos seem very helpful. Your videos are pretty easy to follow!
Ive wanted to try a bonnet. My hair tends to be frizzy and more so when I wake up. My question is a bonnet good for wavy/semi-straight hair? As well as bangs will work with this? Thank ya
hi, i've just started embracing my wavy hair and i also have quarantine bangs and i find that sleeping in a bonnet definitely helps with frizz and flat hair so i would definitely recommend!
Great tips!! Thank you for showing me how to put on a bonnet properly - I wore one last night and put it on like a hat😢. I have been using a buff for the last year and a half with success. However, I noticed that my hair was always dry. I did some research and I think it is because the polyester from the buff is absorbing my leave in hair product. So, I started back with a silk bonnet last night. I had to use the buff over the top to keep it on - but I’m Ok with that. I will see if having the silk as my first layer helps with reducing the dryness over the next week. Also, I will put my bonnet on as you have suggested. So thanks once again. ❤
I have tried several bonnets and for me they were uncomfortable, and.....I felt like granny in it! What works for me is a real silk pillow case. My hair looks fine when I wake up with little or no refreshing.
I Have A Perm And I Wear One Every Night It Really Helps In The Morning. I Love Wearing A Bonnet I So Glade I Started Wearing A Bonnet And I Also Sleep On Satin Pillow Case
@Gena Marie Have you ever tried putting a little oil on your ends at night, before putting on your bonnet? I also have hi-po hair, and heard this can help with dryness and tangles. 💜
i’m struggling to find someone with the same type of curls as me! i love the stuff you have on here but your curls are way different than mine… no one in my family has curly hair and i’ve struggled for so long to find the right methods that work for me. for example, her curls have more volume at the base of her head and are tighter and smaller. my curls are flatter, longer, and are less tightly coiled, so larger in general. i have never seen these curls on anyone else and can’t find good ways to get it into a bonnet, or find hair wash routines that are beneficial to my overall hair care.
I use a silk pillowcase. It is better for my superfine 3B/C curls than a satin pillowcase. I need to try the bonnet again because my hair is finally growing longer and is getting knots in the back. I just don’t want to invest in silk sheets😁 I also use a silk scrunchie when I put it up. My hair is too low density for a pineapple.
Does the bonnet fall off easily? I usually sleep with my hair in a plop or a very loose pineapple, but I also have to use clips because my hair is so long so it would be all over. So I've been wondering how bonnets actually work.
I’ve been recently trying to take care of my hair because curls are gorgeous but I realized that I was putting my hair wrong in the bonnet the whole time. My curls always mess up when I take off the bonnet and I was wondering if I was doing something wrong and yes I was. Loll
Tonight will be my first night wearing a bonnet and I’m super curious to see if it looks nicer tomorrow morning. My hair grew back curly after chemo, like super curly. It’s only about 3 inches long and I always end up with flat spots and frizz when I wake up. I’ve never had curly hair before so it’s been a total pain to figure out how to care for it.
White girl with straight hair here about to try a bonnet tonight just to keep my hair off my neck and face while I sleep. If I put it up in a ban or ponytail over night I get breakage so I'm hoping this works for me.
I use the Invisabobbles and I find if I remove it by just stretching it as far as it goes, it releases my hair instead of tangling it. I have fine, low density hair.
Omg I have been looking for you for 2 years! Here is my dilemma, I have had my granddaughter for 4 years and she too has springs for curls and I have tried to get it ready at night but in the morning it looks like hot dammit ,it's really cold here but I have to wet and re-product her hair every morning .What am I doing wrong?
I’ve got a perm, I have naturally straight hair. My satin bonnet just came in the mail, so I’m gonna try it tonight, cause usually when I wake up my curls are super frizzy or squashed. Hopefully it’ll work!
I have A LOT of curly hair, it almost goes to my waist and it is so hard to take care of. I didn’t want to just chop it off because I love the way it looks and feels so I got a satin bonnet and I’m going to try it tonight. I look a little silly and it was a pain to stuff all my hair into it but I hope it’ll work. I tried my best not to shove and misshape my curls but hey you gotta start somewhere :)
what brand makes the black one you have in the video, my bonnet doesn’t work great and i noticed we have similar curl types and length so i was wondering where you found it on amazon
I've never tried a bonnet or any other method for sleeping. Number 1, my hair is short (ear to chin length) so pineapple is not possible. Number 2 my hair is fine and low density so it flattens easily. If I take a nap or lay on the back of my hair just watching TV, it becomes flat and can only be resurrected by wetting fully and the results are not optimal. So I must restyle every day. Just spritzing with water or other products just leaves my hair very frizzy. Has anyone with my length and type tried a bonnet with decent results?
I have like chin length in the front and as it goes to the back it reaches the beggining of the back of my neck so lile a baby fro w 3a curls and some 2c at the top but i just sleep w a satin pillow case and hope for the best gurl tbh
i just cut my hair really short (kinda like a pixie?) but what i’m doing right now is doing what she did in the video with the bonnet and then tying up the front of the bonnet with a hair tie ( just the fabric not the hair) so that the bonnet is tighter and so my curls don’t flatten out. i’ve heard other girls with shorter hair use satin scarves but i haven’t had the time to get one. first time trying it tonight, i’ll come back in the morning and tell you if it works edit: it worked kind of but the curls on the side were flattened a bit
@@Earthybigtoe I bought a bonnet and tried sleeping in it but it felt too tight on my head. It was even the largest I can make it to be with the tether. I might take your idea and cut the tether and instead tie it with a hair tie!
1:14 Girls with long hair, how do you do this?? My bonnet is not as stretchy as in this vid and my hair is pretty long so trying to tuck my hair in is hard
Yup I just realized this, I went to go buy one at the dollar tree on Monday and omg my hair has been so much better not frizzy and my curls stay tamed.
I love to feel a brush on my scalp. But, brushing my scalp breaks a lot of hair. What are some good products to reduce scales on scalp, reduce itching on scalp, and/or get the proper scalp massage without breaking hair? Even a finger massage for me tangles my hair uncontrollably.
A shampoo brush only touches the scalp and does all the things you describe. After your hair is wet distribute your shampoo then massage your scalp with the shampoo brush.
Omg what pretty curly!!! Btw could u give me solution:') Every time I style my curly hair everything goes well, but the next day my curly hair around the scalp is wrinkled even though I have used a bonnet, what should I do?
I found 2 types of bonnets in the market.. one was like yours and the other was a tying one.. I thought if i wear the one shown in this video it would come off during sleep bcuz I frequently change my sleeping positions..so I bought a tying one..
So question- what do you do if your hair falls 6-8 inches past the end of the bonnet when stretched? Do I fold the end of my hair up and then press all of it into the bonnet? My hair is thin but long, that's why I'm unsure of buying a bigger size.
RESEARCH! Research products, routines, methods. Everyone’s hair is going to be different. It may be a little bit of an expensive trial and error. But it’s needed in order to find the best product that works for you. Plus satin pillowcases are great for anyone’s head. It’s also less abrasive on the face
My roommates girlfriend hadn’t met me and thought I was a girl till I came out of my room cuz I was listening to this I’m a giant of a man with beautiful natural curly hair hahaha
The bottom back of my hair gets so incredibly tangled and when I detangle it I have a huge chunk of hair that broke or pulled out while I was detangling it with my fingers. I have very long curly hair but usually wear it up in a bun so I don’t really need to keep my curls, it’s more for the tangle problem I have at this point. Because of this my hair has really thinned, I had super thick hair before so I’m trying to change up my routine/products. I saw an article on Twitter last week that apparently people who have been using Treseme have noticed their hair thinning out (similar to my situation), I had been using that brand for ages but not anymore! I use a silk pillowcase but that’s not enough to help with the tangles so I’m going to try a bonnet.
Tresemme products are not curly girl method approved because they contain sulfates, silicones, and drying alcohols. I also have a video about tangles here: ruclips.net/video/ebHkN8jastE/видео.html
@@GenaMarie thank you for that! I had no idea about Tresemme until I saw that article. I ended up chopping my hair a few days ago because I got so sick of the tangles. Plus it’s summer & hot here in Australia so I said screw it and cut it at home. It’s not even but it doesn’t matter, it’ll grow back, it’s curly so it’s not that obvious of a bad haircut and it’ll do until it’s safe enough to go get my hair done at a salon.
I noticed if I sleep with a bonnet with my hair wet, it gets frizzy as the day goes. Should I diffuse my hair prior to using the bonnet or air dry most of my hair prior to using the bonnet? Thoughts? Thank you!
Never sleep with wet hair, especially covered, because it's not good for your scalp and can lead to scalp conditions. Diffuse your hair if you wash at night then put on a bonnet once it's dry.
I'm a 30 year old white man with naturally thick curly red hair and started growing it at 25. Only this year someone said to me to wear one at night. I take great care of my hair but no one told me.
what type of bonnet edge would you recommend? I seem to have a memory foam skin and even my shower cap leaves marks on my forehead after 30 mins, I can just imagine having a line across my face all day after a night of "bonneting".
wow thanks beautiful lady for help, I went on to link on Amazon u put down , 4 pack and it went onto men's bonnets I didn't see the one u got ? what link takes me to ur bonnet please? thanks gena ! x
I just checked the link and it appears to be the right one. This is the 4 pack I got rstyle.me/+qjRrfDWjP_t3wmrlUKOz1g It comes with a black, white, red, and pink colored bonnet.
I only found durags too 🙁 Maybe the bonnets were there but sold out...? Gena if you have any other link that would be awesome! Great video as always 👍🏾💜
i have 2b/2c curls, more on the 2c side, but do you guys think it would help to use a bonnet? i just don’t know if my hairs curly enough o use one lol. i’ll have a good curly hair day on wash day, but after sleeping i’ll usually put my hair up or something cause my curls will be tangly and gone
hi gena. i want one of these, and i have family who can make one so that it’s a good size. what do you recommend when it comes to making sure it doesn’t fall off?
Mine doesn't fall off :) The band on these are just the right fit for me to where they are snug but not super tight. You can also try bobby pinning it underneath if yours comes off
I am starting this journey of curly hair. The wash day styling products are still fresh so make hair stiff and very styled next day after i put bonnet i feel that my hair is moist asif styling products starts to evaportae it starts to lose styling
I don't have curly hair but wavy I think and they are dry and I do not know if it's volume or I don't know how to explain... My hair is fluffy , dry and wavy I guess.. 😅
I’ve been looking for a way to use my bonnet so it doesn’t flatten my curls, so I tried this way because it makes sense if the curls are on top, but they fell to the back pretty quickly and got all flat and messed up over night. Does anyone have any solutions to this?? Perhaps purchasing a long satin bonnet?
It sounds like your bonnet it too large for your hair density & length. That happens to me if a bonnet is too big, because the material is not laying tight enough against the hair to hold it down. Instead, it leaves room in between where the hair falls. I know it's so hard to find the perfect fitting one, and unfortunately, it's trial and error. I ordered so many on Amazon and returned before finding my perfect fit. Another option is wrapping your hair in a satin scarf or using a buff.
@@GenaMarie and there was me about to purchase a bigger bonnet! My hair is medium length, but a bit more wavy that curly so that could be it. The bonnets I have are rather small I thought, so perhaps I will try with a buff because I have one of those. Thank you for replying!! 🙂
@@GenaMarieoh my gosh! Thank you! I was wondering why my hair always fell and never seemed to work right in the bonnet, and also why it fell off in the night. I have a large adjuster on mine and I will tighten as much as I can. I'm really hoping this will work, thank you!
Good afternoon... thank you for your tutorial .... That is my issues large bands 😔 bands to hold up my hair another one.... thank you for the links greatful for that... Stay safe be happy Sincerely Tee Jay 🤗
Love your videos, new sub. I sleep in a bonnet on a satin pillowcase as well. Have tried a couple bonnets so far and they always get so loose it drives me nuts waking up with them over my eyes. Gonna give yours a try and hope it stays put. A pineapple doesn't work well for me.

Same!
i just cut my hair really short (kinda like a pixie?) but what i’m doing right now is doing what she did in the video with the bonnet and then tying up the front of the bonnet with a hair tie ( just the fabric not the hair) so that the bonnet is tighter and so my curls don’t flatten out. i’ve heard other girls with shorter hair use satin scarves but i haven’t had the time to get one. first time trying it tonight, i’ll come back in the morning and tell you if it works
edit: it worked kind of but the curls on the side were flattened a bit
@@Earthybigtoe I bought a bonnet and tried sleeping in it but it felt too tight on my head. It was even the largest I can make it to be with the tether. I might take your idea and cut the tether and instead tie it with a hair tie!
1:14 Girls with long hair, how do you do this?? My bonnet is not as stretchy as in this vid and my hair is pretty long so trying to tuck my hair in is hard
Yup I just realized this, I went to go buy one at the dollar tree on Monday and omg my hair has been so much better not frizzy and my curls stay tamed.
You have suuucccchhh pretty curls!
@@katarinal4382 Thanks
Omg what pretty curly!!! Btw could u give me solution:') Every time I style my curly hair everything goes well, but the next day my curly hair around the scalp is wrinkled even though I have used a bonnet, what should I do?
wdym wrinkled? frizzy perhaps?
Here I am as a man with thick and curly hair trying to learn because my hairs long. This is good stuff.
I found 2 types of bonnets in the market.. one was like yours and the other was a tying one.. I thought if i wear the one shown in this video it would come off during sleep bcuz I frequently change my sleeping positions..so I bought a tying one..
Thank u! This is really helpful. Also has anyone ever said that you look like Chyler Leigh?
So question- what do you do if your hair falls 6-8 inches past the end of the bonnet when stretched? Do I fold the end of my hair up and then press all of it into the bonnet? My hair is thin but long, that's why I'm unsure of buying a bigger size.
My hair is a bit wavy but is very thick and gets frizzy so easily. I was just wondering what anyone thought would be best for my hair :)
I need to know also, but sadly no one has responded.
The bonnet kinda works with mine, my problem is my waves get stringy 😔
ONG I have the same hair type as you but I use a silk/ satin pillowcases it’s way better you can buy them in Amazon ☺️☺️
Just did my hair now I’m going to bed. Hope it works 💯
I still dont know how to put it, i have really long curly hair and when i do it it just gets messy. Any tips?
I noticed if I sleep with a bonnet with my hair wet, it gets frizzy as the day goes. Should I diffuse my hair prior to using the bonnet or air dry most of my hair prior to using the bonnet?
Thoughts? Thank you!
Never sleep with wet hair, especially covered, because it's not good for your scalp and can lead to scalp conditions. Diffuse your hair if you wash at night then put on a bonnet once it's dry.
i freaking knew it was a sponsored ad, she was really SELLIN that bonnet
It’s not a sponsored video.
OMG memory foam skin 😂😂😂 sooo true for me calling I that forever!
wow thanks beautiful lady for help, I went on to link on Amazon u put down , 4 pack and it went onto men's bonnets I didn't see the one u got ? what link takes me to ur bonnet please? thanks gena ! x
I just checked the link and it appears to be the right one. This is the 4 pack I got rstyle.me/+qjRrfDWjP_t3wmrlUKOz1g
It comes with a black, white, red, and pink colored bonnet.
I only found durags too 🙁 Maybe the bonnets were there but sold out...? Gena if you have any other link that would be awesome! Great video as always 👍🏾💜
😭thank u i really did not know how to use a bonnet correctly
Trying my Bonnet for the first time tonight
When I put my hair in a bonnet I just get creases and lines in my hair. And my hair is dry anyway so this doesn't help :( Do you have any tips?
i have 2b/2c curls, more on the 2c side, but do you guys think it would help to use a bonnet? i just don’t know if my hairs curly enough o use one lol. i’ll have a good curly hair day on wash day, but after sleeping i’ll usually put my hair up or something cause my curls will be tangly and gone
yeah buy one
hi gena. i want one of these, and i have family who can make one so that it’s a good size. what do you recommend when it comes to making sure it doesn’t fall off?
Mine doesn't fall off :) The band on these are just the right fit for me to where they are snug but not super tight. You can also try bobby pinning it underneath if yours comes off
@@GenaMarie ok thank you. will do some trial and error measuring so hopefully it works. thank you so much for your videos!!
Would this help with my permed hair? My hair isn't that natural curly, and I just had it permed yesterday, and can't wash it for another day.
Yes it will
Any recommendations for bonnet/beanie?
I have been sleeping with a satin pillow case with the pineapple methode for ages. But now I cut my hair very short and can't put it up.😑
But how do you get it to stay on? I tried and tried but it comes off during the night. Do I use clips? The second I roll over ... off it comes.
I have straight hair but over night it gets insanely matted and tangle. Would a bonnet be beneficial for me?
Yes if you think it will help I do it when I straighten my hair and it works amazingly :)
@@charlikennaman9066 thank you! Do you have any recommendations? :)
These are the ones I use on amazon: rstyle.me/+qjRrfDWjP_t3wmrlUKOz1g
Great tips!
Do you sleep on your sode/bavk/stomach? Even in a silk mask I see my curls go crazy if I don't sleep on my stomach
I just want to know where did you get the gray cat pillow ?? 🐱
Hi the link not working for the satin bonnets? I have a satin bonnet but it does not keep my hair like my buff does any ideas
Did you try this: rstyle.me/cz-n/eb3qg9vz6w
favorite curly hair channel. thank you!!!
Do you have a link to the bonnet your using?
you can probably get one at a cvs if you're ever there. don't go there JUST for it because I can't really confirm
thank you sm for this video!
Thank you I just placed my order
Why are these pillow cases $33 & others are $11.99 for a standard:queen 3 pk...what’s the difference?
What sleep-protection product would u recommend for shorter hair (chin and neck length)?
A bonnet should also work for that
I am starting this journey of curly hair. The wash day styling products are still fresh so make hair stiff and very styled next day after i put bonnet i feel that my hair is moist asif styling products starts to evaportae it starts to lose styling
Am i use wrong styling products heavy on my hair i am using leave in cantu shea butter and cantu curl activator shea butter
can you put a bonnet on AFTER. a shower when your hair is semi wet?
No your hair needs to be 100% dry because otherwise it can cause fungus
Thanks for the help
The bonnets fall off when I'm sleeping. I have to Bobby pin it in place.
How do you keep it on?. They just fall right off.
Can you please repost the link for the Amazon bonnets? The link in your post does not work. Thank you

Hi Gena,
your hair looks lovely in this video, love the curls and love your hair cut🥰
Thanks!
I purchased a bonnet but it causes wrinkles on my forehead. What am I doing wrong?
I don't have curly hair but wavy I think and they are dry and I do not know if it's volume or I don't know how to explain... My hair is fluffy , dry and wavy I guess.. 😅
Thanks
Thanks
That is my issues large bands 😔
bands to hold up my hair another one.... thank you for the links greatful for that...

I needed this help .IV tried do many items..all failed..

Any bonnets that dont stain pillows?
When I wear a bonnet to sleep, it comes off during the night. How can I stop that from happening?
Needs to be more snug. It’s probably too large for your head size or hair thickness
You could replace the elastic
