Once you get into Heavensward, "the itch" will explode. You'll hit a point of "I have to know what happens next" along with the combat really coming together. I hope Graham is planning on taking you through the 24 and 8 man raids before steamrolling through the MSQ too much. Final Fantasy XIV is SURPRISINGLY interconnected where the side content often ties into the main story. And it sometimes takes an expansion or two before that pay off comes back around.
We'll be hitting up crystal tower for sure, but for now we don't have any specific plans for anything else just yet. We don't have a ton of time to play, and we're trying to get George caught up for Dawn, so even going to small side detours could jeopardize that, so for more we'll stick to essentials only. More than happy to circle back later, and we plan to go that regardless
Hard disagree. You should undersize Bahamut's Coils to get the additional character arcs for the twins that pays off in Heavensward, and again in Shadowbringers. You've got too much world building setting up the emotional beats for Stormblood - Gosetsu, the plight of the Domans, Ala Mhigo - all of that is set up through ARR patch MSQ and that is all skipped with the MSQ skip potion. You've got lingering plot threads that land in Endwalker, even things like the Heart of Sabik call all the way back to ARR. The Twelve aren't as big a factor in the expansions after ARR, but they are certainly a nice closure only if you've played from the start. A Realm Reborn lays a lot of the foundation that resonates in expansions throughout the entire 10 year Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga.

You definitely want to get used to sticking behind the bosses or you will get deleted later on when the training wheels come off.
