Geez, I hope that mindset of letting perfection go happens to me as I get older. I've had enough of being like that but it feels very ingrained.

    • @TheSalonLife

Yes, perfection is terrible. It usually goes hand in hand with procrastination. I still want to improve things in my life but I guess I'm ok with being imperfect. It's actually more interesting to be imperfect. Perfect is boring. Maybe it's because we see so much perfection in make up, filters, photoshop, etc. It's nauseating after a while...

The cuticle is kinda like a double sided sticky tape that slides along the nail plate and keeps the seal between the proximal nail fold and the nail plate, so no yuckies get into the skin and cause nail fungus or infection of any kind, it’s why I prefer doing very conservative cuticle cleanup like you’re doing, especially on older clients with very dry, sensitive, thin skin, it helps more than they think and prevents accidental nips and cuts.

I love watching your manicures and would love to see you doing more pedicures as I find those so much harder to do as I like colour on my toes but a clear polish on my finger nails. Had the worst pedicure ever last weekend! I have been using Rejuvacote on my finger nails which I am loving as it doesn’t peel and doesn’t seem to yellow my nails. I also love the Deliplus top coat gel from Mercadona and brought another bottle back to the U.K. with me a couple of weeks ago. Btw, I like short nails too. I file mine every few days as I can’t stand it when they start to grow.

If you have lines in your nails like it's bent and not broken but the line is still there is it best to cut and file that part off and re grow your nails because when I put polish on the crack seems to come through to my polish and you can see the line

    • @TheSalonLife

Yes, if there is any damage to the nail plate it’s better to shorten it because longer nails bend more causing more damage to the nail plate surface.

I know exactly what you mean about your nails being flatter without polish on. My nails are narrower at the PNF and go wider towards the free edge, some nail plates more so than others and it bugs me. Whenever I put any kind of polish on it's as if the side walls curl in slightly so the nails look more even and 'straight up straight down' with less flaring. They also tend to look more uniform. As soon as I take the polish off, by the time I've finished my manicure they are flatter and wider again. I don't feel any discomfort when they change and I wish they would stay looking more even and not wider at the free edge! :) I'm also a short nail fan, I have to file them every couple of days as it drives me up the wall when they start getting long.

I'm not a fan of Nail Envy. It used to have a hardening ingredient, formalin. The one called Original Nail Envy.
The new Nail Envy doesn't have formalin and it has... nothing really. Nothing different. It's just a clear nail polish with the addition of marketing.
Here are the ingredients. It has nothing special at all.
I mean it can be a very nice clear nail polish with great formula but that's about it.
Butyl Acetate, Ethyl Acetate, Nitrocellulose, Tribenzoin, Acrylates/Hydroxyesters Acrylates Copolymer, Isopropyl Alcohol, Tosylamide/Epoxy Resin, n-Butyl Alcohol, Stearalkonium Bentonite, Diacetone Alcohol, Citric Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbic Acid, Retinyl Palmitate, Biotin, Calcium Pantothenate, Dimethicone, Acetyl Tributyl Citrate, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Violet 2 (CI 60725).

Hello, all polishes that contain nitrocellulose can yellow the nails. Depends on the age of the polish, type of polish and how long you wear it. Pretty much all polishes on the market contain nitrocellulose. Sometimes it’s a price you pay for having polished nails. It’s just good to be aware why the yellowing happens.
