How do you like the Illusive Man's story? Do you like him as a character? 😄
I think he's a great character. Martin Sheen did a fantastic job with that role. He does a lot of voice acting and stuff so it fit right in. Everyone who did voices for characters in that game should have won awards.
I think there certainly scope to expand upon the illusive man & cerberus. As I'm fairly sure that the Illusive man touched upon that there many heads to cerberus. IF so then was the illusive man just the better known head while the others just bided their time to step up, take over or gain that bit more influence with cerberus.
@@andrewlaidlaw7975 that's some Tenet level stuff there haha!
It's funny because of course playing Mass Effect 1 Cerberus is def a villainous organization. However, playing Mass Effect 2 I could not help being on their side. After all it's not like the other species aren't looking out for their own.
Yeah, TIM is great character for me with great acting of Martin Sheen :)
He's Illusive not Elusive.
In Mass Effect 3 Dr Eva Core is the persona that the Cerberus AI took when infiltrating Mars. This android body was later occupied by EDI.
If it wasnt for this video I dont think i would have ever found out about the illusive mans backstory
Well now you know : D
That explains why Saran hates humans, and explains why TIM hates everyone.
Here’s an interesting thought. What if Shepard found Javik in Mass Effect 1?
Then the council would’ve listened for sure and would’ve been better prepped for the reaper invasion
But that does beg the question
How drastic would the changes be from the original trilogy
@@lordextinction8322 But that's just a theory...
A GAME THEORY
They would have united the galaxy and had 3 years to build up military strength. Probably would have found the Crucible blueprints earlier built it and tested it thus meeting the star child earlier. Who knows.
@@lordextinction8322 the council being the way they are, they would've found some reason to ignore our
warnings even if it came out the mouth of a prothean
@@krypto7653
That’s sadly the most likely if not cannon outcome
TBH, he's one of the coolest antagonists I've come across, and I've only come across him recently.
For me, the Illusive Man aka Jack Harper probably one of the most complex characters that is apart of the overall Mass Effect story. One interesting theory I heard about is that somehow there is a connection between the Illusive Man and Cora Harper from Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Me too. I believe it. The rumor is that Cora is Jack's daughter similar to how Miranda was created
He’s the Vince McMahon of Mass Effect
Haha true!
That he is!
it was me austin! it was me the whole time!
As stated in one game: Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
True words!
Ruin has come to our family...
Never heard anyone call him Tim, but I'm loving that acronym! 😂
Lmao calling him Tim, makes him seem like just another random NPC in the background
Like pretty much every single character in the games, I found him fascinating. I liked the mystery and how his arc turned out.
I think the illusive man is great character and its nice to see him having his own fleshed out background story in the comic.
I would have lost my mind if on Mars in ME3 when the Illusive Man was talking to everyone via hologram, Liara walks up and said "Hello ... Jack." That would have been amazing.
A well written character indeed... I wish to play this back story... Now i know who Eva Core from Me3 is coming from... Awesome
Well... to me it sounds like a good base for another ME game protagonist. Just think about it... you get to play the young IM with his squad... then lose a friend, experience similar trauma as Shepard did in ME1, but instead of the unserious way of dealing with the visions that we had in ME1 he doesnt go around telling officials that "Reapers are coming because i had a bad dream about it". He exposes the threat and eliminate it... then starts Cerberus to ensure that humanity stays safe.
This gives alot of depth to his character and kinda makes sence why he was so fixated on his experiments to elevate humanity. Its also ironic as in Evolution he fights a turian that mutates his bretheren and is obviously indoctrinated and working for the reapers... then in ME3 he becomes that man. This is why I personally like (narratively) the idea of Shepard chosing synergy ending. After all his first enemy was trying to achieve exactly that and Shepard stopped him.... then goes on to do the same thing
I remember being super intrigued by TIM but then kind of let down because there was no big reveal. The whole setup that he was being so illusive seem to want to lead to some story unfolding about who he was and why he was so illusive. But he was (for the games) just the illusive man. Didn’t seem to be any kind of payoff for 3 games of mystery about him. If I remember correctly. Def need to check out the comics.
The comics are so good. I’d highly recommend them to anyone who hasn’t read them
Any idea where you can get them??
@@Oneshotrobot97 Description ;)
They really are. Evolution is really one of my favorites.
Ahh yes thank you!
Well, he was "just" indoctrinated. I liked him. But in ME2 somewhat knew that in ME3 he will do something stupid. And he did
And to believe that at the end, Jack/The illusive man didn´t learn anything from Saren and his brother mistakes
Favorite character in the mass effect series i love his music too
love how the illusive man story is basically a mirror of Shepard in ME1 with a Reaper artefact giving him visions and him taking on Saren to save humanity would have loves ME4 that was originally going to be at this time period and play as him also gives a good excuse to have a slow fall to renegade not the fall up to paragon of the trilogy.
The Illusive Man delivered a line from Mass Effect that I never thought would make me emotional. All the moments you can see coming and building up to this but the quote from Illusive Man came out of nowhere "I wish you could see it [Earth] like I do, Sheppard"
The more I search about him, the more I like his character...
It also could be argued that he was under reaper influence all along, building Cerberus to help foster hatred and nustrust towards humanity and ultimately providing the reapers with an indoctrinated army in the milkyway. Sure TIM might have had illusions of turning the reapers tech to his advantage but its probable they let him believe he had free will when he really didnt.
True man this explains him foreshadowing Shepard’s death by the collectors in 2 and Cerberus just happens to be ones to recover him and probably put reaper tech him.
Wasn't EVA the name of the replacement AI after EDI was released? The one that was put into the body that EDI eventually used? I wonder if that's coincidence or not
I'm replaying me3 and the AI on Mars is under the name Dr. Eva core so yeah they have the same name.
The Illusive Man was the character used to get me into the series. Even now I'm wanting to have his backdrop as my virtual background for online meetings
Now all you need is the chair & the suit ;)
It’s crazy how fast you produce these videos, keep on that grind it’ll pay off👏
Getting way too used to editing xD
I’m pulling my hair out waiting to pick up my preorder on Friday
haha me too x)
TIM was always The character that I was at ends with, I really don't like how in the end if you really want to follow him it's more renegade, when viewing Cerberus through my eyes, I see them as more of a gray organization. They use unconventional means to get what they need, but if your stance is human preservation everything they do checks out. It would be cool if in Mass Effect 4 even echo logs about him and his past were to pop up
Cerberus is renegade to a T. They assassinate world leaders in order to do the greater good in their eyes. They experimented with children to create powerful biotics. That’s what renegade is, getting the job done regardless of moral and ethical objections. They don’t do anything out of altruism, every action has a goal, morals be dammed.
What they did to Jack, allegedly was not sanctioned by Tim. Once Tim caught wind of it he shut it down, or he would have, if Jack hadn't just killed everyone
@@Alulucard allegedly lol
@@blacklite911 I also think to project overlord, Cerberus sent you there to shut things down and figure out what happened. Tim might be leading Cerberus, but he also lets people do what they want within reason, and you have to imagine how many cells that he oversees, It's already been established that Tim doesn't know everything that goes on in his organization. Some Cerberus cells weren't closely being watched. Cerberus as a whole, is pretty shitty. I do think that Tim has humanity's best in mind.
@@Alulucard Yes the illusive man does things in the interest of humanity. But he is morally bankrupt. He’s not a hero, he’s a classic Ultra Machiavellian archtype. Effective to a point, but not someone to look up to.
I which that the illusive man talked about saren in mass effect 2
we didn't know that was a connection or better his connection with ashley's grandfather
After being a fan for so long it was nice to hear the illusive mans history seeing as I never really followed up on him, but I always liked the character. Nice one bro...good character review.
The fact that TIM was basically an unwitting Reaper stooge since the First Contact War is sad, pathetic and darkly hilarious all at the same time.
Also REALLY explains his mentality in ME3. Harbinger just started tightening the leash they have on him and he never even realized it.
He wasn't indoctrinated until later when he began using other implants.
He was perfect in mass effect 2 since you could never tell what he was really thinking
He was cold and robotic but still held on to his humanity like for example giving Shepard advice on handling feelings so they don't distract him from the end goal and even asking various people how they feel,
In mass effect 3 there was barely any of that and it was clear he became a bad guy
I always loved when the Illusive Man showed up in ME2. He was a very interesting character, seemingly neither good nor bad and with a lot of power at his disposal.
Never heard anyone call him TIM for short but now I can't unhear it and always think of it when I see him
Oh no
It's Tim!
Love The Illusive Man, great video as always!
Thanks man! 😁
This would’ve made a nice DLC set in the past or it’s own game itself.
I like the illusive man being illusive because mysteries can become less than interesting once you strip the mystery away
Thanks for sharing this one bro 👍 I absolutely love the lore content which you share with us.. Thanks to you, I now know more about IM's past... Keep up the good work... LE is preloading on Steam... can't wait 😁😁😍
Thank you for being here :) oh yeah, hype is having me going crazy xD
Keep up the good work, we’re so close but so far from the 14th
Aw yeeee
Great video MrHulthen👍
Excellent video!
History about I’llusive man totally something character looks more into maybe
the ilusive man was such a good character
Loved this lore video.
My belief is that the artifact made him susceptible to the reapers commands. It gave him knowledge of the future and other abilities and slowly corrupted him from a good kind hearted person to a ends justified the means kind of guy using his trauma and experiences with the turians and then manipulated him into foing their bidding
I truly hope that the sequel will delve deeper into the character of Cora Harper, rumored to be Jack Harper's daughter.
It seems like Jack Harper (TIM) has sent his daughter away with the Arks to save her from impending doom?
Possibly! Could be a touching element to his story : )
so this is why the illusive man became changed to an indoctrinated state so easily, cause reaper tech
Yea but now I’m thinking he was indoctrinated since 2 and the collectors killing you and Cerberus reviving you where all apart of the reapers plan.
@@kenny-7358 could have been even before that because in the book he ran into reaper tech during the first contact war I believe it was
The illusive man in me2 is one of the best video game characters ever created. My first time playing I was more intrigued by his character than the collectors.
I always thought The Illusive Man looked like a Jack. Also, Saren's brother tried to evolve the Turian race the exact same way that the Illusive Man tried to evolve humanity. Using Reaper tech to provide synthetic upgrades, and a level of control over the people they upgrade. Whereas Saren tried to save the Galaxy by working with and, to an extent, combining himself with the Reapers and Shepard has the option to do the exact same thing in different ways with the Control ending or the Synthesis ending. Too bad we couldn't get more of Saren, it would have been interesting to have him be like a potential squadmate like Loghain in Dragon Age Origins.
I've binge watched your ME content over the last 24 hours . Shepard is right , this is the best channel in RUclips .I'd better go.
Great content as always! Keep it up bro
🍻
Illusive Man is interesting, as his parallels with Saren.
By the way, woud be very interesting to see a simular video about Seran. )
Indeed! It might be a future video :)
He's basically Space Saruman.
Nice video!
Man! im hypt for the stream ❤
I personally think he’s the benifactor from andromeda
I see something ironic how both Villanes that was decent people at 1st and worked together died by Commander Shepard
you think the explosion that Saren detonated was the explosion that Anderson said got his mission failed? Anderson was never mention but who knows
Great video mate
Thank you!
Some people have their copies early, can't wait!
Ahhhhh!
did we ever get confirmation if he was related to Cora from Mass Effect Andromeda
I just cant get over the fact that such a mysterios guy has the community nickname "Tim"
Nice! I like it.
This could have been Mass Effect 0, the Origin 😲
Oh yeah! Maybe even a prequel game/film :)
I've been a fan of Michael Sheen ever since the West Wing. So the entire time, I pretended he was alternate space Jed Bartlet and it worked for me. Even the ending where he was obviously indoctrinated and was therefore acting incresingly out of character. Except that he wasn't, for corrupted Jed Bartlet. That's exactly what he would do, I think.
Comic should have drawn him with Charlie's likeness IMO, since that's what he looks like in Apocalypse Now.
är såå exalterad! snart är det dags att dra på sin m7 rustning och ta sin plasma automatkarbin :D
Commenting for the algorithm.
now I understand why the name of the name of EDI's securer was EVA
Great video!
Do you think Cora Harper was his daughter? Or is this question answered in the comics?
I don't think it's explored but it wouldn't suprise me if she was :)
So he was able to communicate with the alien species after discovering the artifact, the first omni-lingual human.
Having only played the games, I've long thought the Illusive Man might be Armistan Banes, whose death could have been faked. But the comic book origin is interesting. As a character, I think the IM is an arrogant s.o.b. who adds a very interesting dynamic to ME2, and plays an integral role as an ME3 adversary.
this story sounds weirdly similar to the first mass effect and halo reach for the first half, then Saren's character seems inconsistent (working with humans and destroying a reaper artifact willingly)
TIM was the coolest cat in the galaxy, so cool that even the reapers wanted him in their club but that nerd Shepard just wouldnt let him have it, so he threw a big ol hissy fit and ruined the fun for TIM.
I like how the creators made the Turians look like Aliens as we expect them look. I mean the black eyes, the light Touch of green skin color even the faces many people think aliens just have no noses rather than holes in the face.
I am not sure when the elusive man became indoctrinated. Was it before we met him? After the 2nd game?
It would be cool if BioWare would make short DLC prequel campaigns that explore the stories of the books and comics. I'm certain that I'm not alone in this, but I can't bring myself to read any fiction, no matter how interesting, but I'm more than happy to play and watch fiction.
U u u..... I can't breath u dident say N7 squad also u spoiling me awsome lore thx for the vid
Wait, i didn't!? How could i miss that 🤣
I wish it was tomorrow already so I can activate the preload for my PC copy of ME:LE.
This may or may not be the 4th time I have purchased the trilogy for many platforms.
OG: PS3
Then PS3 broke and got a 360. Purchased there too
Then got it on PC
Now LE on PC
Woop woop. It's gonna be here soon my friend :)
Only 4 times ? How can you resist buying it even more times ? You have a stronger will to resist than me, for sure. I'm too weak and couldn't resist.
Here's the list of how many times I bought each game.
ME1: 1 time physically on X360 the original one. 2 times physically on X360 the " Classics " version ( or whatever they call it, it's the edition that includes the Bring Down The Sky DLC ) , 1 time physically on X360 the Collector's Edition, 1 time digitally on X360 , 1 time digitally on Origin, 1 time physically on PC.
ME2: 1 time physically on X360 the original one, 1 time physically on X360 the Collector's edition, 1 time physically on PS3 ( even though I've never owned a PS3 so it's basically useless 😅 but I don't care, bought it anyways, just in case I get a PS3 one day ) , 1 time digitally on X360, 1 time digitally on Origin the basic edition, 1 time digitally on Origin the Collector's edition, 1 time physically on PC the Collector's edition.
ME3: 1 time physically on X360 the original one, 1 time physically on X360 the Collector's edition, 1 time digitally on X360, 1 time digitally on Origin the Collector's edition, 1 time physically on PC the Collector's edition, 1 time physically on PS3 the Collector's edition.
I had done the maths a few years ago, and found out I've spent almost $1500 over the years just on the original trilogy ( that includes: games, novels, comics, the DVD with James in it, figures, hats, and a few other merchandising items )
I guess it's safe to say that I absolutely love ME 😁
Just finished Mass Effect Evolution comic yesterday and then this video gets recommended 😂
This needs to be the plot of the next game!
Artemis Baines. But the Illusive man being Pro human kinda of makes him the good guy until Mass Effect 3.
Could you make a Vid about Cerberus? I am curious about it's structure, how it managed to acquire alliance dreadnoughts, how it raised an army, did all of cerberus rally in the final battle at cronos station ? These are questions no youtuber has any real answer to, perhaps you can answer them ?
Good stuff
I'm OK looking up the illusive man ad long as he isn't looking me up.
So is Cora Harper something to do with the illusive man
An interesting backstory but still leaves me unsatisfied, this origin story seems similar to Shepards in ME1 in both having contact with an alien artefact but they fail to contextualise the origin of the beacon, its purpose and how it changed TIM to become a watchdog for Humanity.
Feels like a missed opportunity to me.
“TIM” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Having read all the books, comics and passed all 3 parts of the Mass Effect, my attitude to The Illusive Man and Cerberus can be described: "Neutral, mixed with disgust". I understand the goals and motives of this organization, to elevate and protect humanity, but the way they try to achieve it I hate, especially after what The Illusive Man has done to Paul Grayson, their experiments on children and not only and the study of Reaper technology where they subsequently indoctrination The Illusive Man. I understand why they did it, but I do not accept it. I have no hatred for Cerberus or The Illusive Man, I just have a neutral-disgust for him and his organization.
13 hours till my game launches 🚀 lesgo
I'll never forgive Bioware for what they did to TIM and Cerberus in Mass Effect 3... NEVER
If he was reaper controled he wouldn’t have brought Shep back
I think TIM will play a part in ME4
Super awesome to see this👍🏾
TIIIIIIIMMMMMMMMMMMMMY
The short timescale between the discovery of the relay, and the events of ME3 seem a bit unrealistic, is 35 years really enough time to understand the discoveries, prototype new technologies and build a massive military and civilian infrastructure like what we see in the game, maybe 80 years or so, but 35 seems very short.
Indeed. I also wonder how they could have built a space fleet so quickly and yet it was big enough and advanced enough to fight a first contact war against the Turians (who have the biggest fleet in the galaxy).
I understand that the technology of all races was guided by the Reaper relay technology but how did Earth adapt and build it so fast? And where might we be if the Reapers were another thousand years from arriving? Build a massive fleet, purge the Xenos and enter dark space to fight the forces of Chaos undivided...
I've just learned about the comics... :O
So he named the second version of IDE Eva after her
Let's hope a movie is made from the comic
That would be awesome! :)
