  • Denver Colorado's Official Song by Mike Crowley and KBTV (now KUSA) channel 9.
The song was originally written as the Official song of Denver Colorado by Mike Crowley. It was commissioned in 1973 by Combined Communications Corporation which at that time was the parent company of KBTV channel 9 in Denver (now KUSA) who wanted a song that would express the stations pride in the city that it serves. Michael Crolwey, a former member of the Backporch Majority and a devoted Coloradan, composed both the words and the music. These were then combined with film for a brief tribute to the Denver which had been shown continuously on Channel 9 with great audience acceptance. In this recording Crowley sings all of the parts and plays all of the instruments. Mister Crowley and Channel 9 gave the performance to the City and County of Denver. The official 45rpm records of the song were distributed by Safeway stores of Colorado with the proceeds of the record sales being donated to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. In July of 1976 at the suggestion of Mayor William H. McNichols, the City Council proposed and adopted a resolution making the song the Official song of Denver Colorado. Micheal Crowly also recorded a second song in 1973 during this project, also for the City and County of Denver, that song is called "City On the Prairie". Links to both songs are below:

This is not the original video that went along with this song, I threw this video together from a collection of photos. I haven't been able to find the actual, original film/video anywhere. I haven't seen it since it aired during commercial breaks on Channel 9 in the 1970's.
ALL the Music, Vocals and Instruments were Sung/Played by Michael Crowley, Former Member of the Back porch Majority.

This was an absolute hit in the making. As a promotional song for KBTV/Channel 9, the associated film clips from various venues all throughout Colorado during the U.S. Bi-centennial & the simultaneous centennial of Colorado; it really brought home the love & pride we all held deeply for our beloved state. I was beyond thrilled when I found this on youtube as the 45 rpm record that I'd purchased from Safeway finally bit the dust. This is just one of those simple but cherished items that will always be a wonderful reminder of my yrs. living in Longmont, Colorado.

Ohh man, I remember this, I was at Dartmouth Elementary, on the very edge of civilization, everything east of Buckley Road at that time was grasslands, prarie dogs and giant white golf balls.
I remember my class had the part about the plains and the Denver ColoRaDo... melody... Ahhh... and they got all the schools together at the museum to sing the song for a commercial and from what I remember, that was a complete disaster, BUT .!.!.! We were all, every child there, featured in a television commercial and I can assure you, that every parent knew exactly where their child was in that video and would shush the room everytime it came on TV. I would LOVE to find that video, what an amazing key to some awesome memories.
There was also a mini series about the Colorado Centennial out around this time and I believe it was called "Centennial" that they filmed in around Cherry Creek. This was around the same time of Steve Kelley sitting in every seat at Mile High and Hal and Charlie doing the Scavenger Hunts on the radio and we would get the funky maps of the Denver Area from the Sunday papers for clues... BRILLIANT marketing, now that I look back at it and I remember a lot of John Denver specials.
Whoever posted this, thank you, unless you were there, in Colorado, at that weird moment... LoL... It is impossible to describe how amazing Denver was and how special everything felt.

I heard that same jingle on sister station WXIA Channel 11 (pre-11Alive), and they were both ABC stations who are now NBC affiliates - WXIA in 1980 and KUSA in 1995
