I was at that concert and got to shake his hand after the show. I'd travelled over from Ireland that summer aged 22. An unforgettable journey in more ways that I could ever say!
@@superniger4822 I visited Red Rocks 6 years ago, it's a fantastic place to watch a show. They have a great tribute to John in the visitor center. Would love to visit again.
RIP John! i cant believe my dad met you in Colorado at a hockey game in the 70s, he got me hooked onto your music, yeah you were a big star, but deep down you were just a normal guy like me, a guy who loved God, his job, his family and his country. i would have loved to have met you. you will always be in our hearts, may you rest in peace
Well, when I grew up JD was considered a nerd. He was the butt of many jokes. Grandparents loved him. I think it was because of his bowl haircut and Gosh, by Golly, Gee Whiz, earnestness. I later came to appreciate his talent. I love the lyrics to this song in particular.
one of my first memories with my current fiancee (then girlfriend) was on our first trip together getting into our rental car on our first night in Denver and the first thing I did once we pulled out of the rental lot was put this on the radio and absolutely scream along with this song...this song brings me back because we also saw red rock on that trip, wish i could've seen him live, RIP.
My wife was at that concert in Red Rocks in 1974. I got to see him a few times in concert, but not at Red Rocks. He is still my all time favorite singer and songwriter.
One of my favorites. How can you not miss such a talented, compassion man who brought his love of nature and all it shows us. He looks so happy and content in this video. He was taken from us way to soon.
Suzanne Gomolka i've hiked many of the same trails & paths! Nothing on Buddahs green earth take her place in my heart ! Many miles away ' but my heart & soul reside in those mountains ! 😎🌎
Such a gorgeous clip. He was so in tune with nature and was one of the first to identify what the world needed then and needs even more today. I love seeing him with Annie; they were so in love and so innocent and happy. I wish the world hadn't gotten in their way.
@Lily Hyatt I've read his book. He didn't have affairs, in the early days of his fame he had one night stands which he came to realise were destructive to his marriage and empty and full of guilt for him. He wrote the book to set the record straight about himself, there was nothing in there that made me love him any less.
@Lily Hyatt I did not make the statement that his book made me love him any less to upset you. I just meant that nothing he said in his book made me think worse of him. I don't think there's a famous musician out there who didn't sleep with their fans at some stage or the other. It's part of being in that world and John was not above falling into the lifestyle. But after a while most of them realise that it's not all that and start to take up healthier activities to while away the time (like golf). 🙂 I remember John saying in an interview that he got to the stage where waking up next to a stranger made him feel sad and guilty. Some people on here are very prone to accusing John of being an alcoholic, philandering, wife bashing man, like that sums him up. If you knew him you know that he was a very, very good man who had flaws like the rest of us. He knew he was not perfect but his book showed he was starting to reach a level of peace and balance in his life when he sadly died.
Well said this is exactly how I see it. Folks are quick to call JD these awful labels... As though it was entirely his fault. It takes two... He contributed yes to the demise of their marriage. However, Annie made it quite clear she had no interest in supporting his touring and such... And she knew that when they met. She wanted to stay home. You don't leave your famous husband to go on the road and expect him to be strong for weeks and months. And there is always talk about his physical cheating... In his book it sounds like emotional cheating from her (as detrimental) was a reality.
I moved to Colorado, Leadville to be exact in 1974. His music was the soundtrack for my life there. I ended up in Monterey, Ca only to have him lose his life there. Never met him but feel connected. Huge loss but what a legacy. Red Rocks is not to be missed if you have a chance to hear good music there.
When my wife and first started dating we chose to go see James Taylor instead of John Denver. John died a month later and we've regretted our decision ever since even though Taylor was excellent. Annies song was the bridal party song at our wedding in 98. I put Red Rocks on my bucket list and we went in 2016 to see the Tedeschi Trucks Band with Sharon Jones and Doyle Bramhall. I've been to many shows in my 57 years and that show is at the top of the very best. What a beautiful, wonderful, magical place. We're definitely going back
Love ,love ,love this song. When I was young my family moved here to Colorado, when we hit Denver this song came on the radio. Thank you it means so much.
I've loved JD since I was a teenager in the 70's. Finally made it to Red Rocks Amphitheater a couple weeks ago, thought of him the entire time I was there. The videos they have of John there in the Red Rocks Hall of Fame are fantastic, as is the room dedicated to him. If you're a JD nut, as I am....you need to visit this place...gorgeous. You can feel him there! I really miss him.
What a wonderful place to have a concert nothing like the sunsets in red rocks beautiful place. Thanks for the great memory john always new how to have a the best concert for all. ❤❤❤🎵🎤🎶🎸🫶🏻💛💜
I love how John set the record straight about the true meaning of this song. It was banned in many places because it was thought the "high" meant being on dope. But in reality it (high) is just the pure sense of awe, wonderment, and joy of being in presence of those almighty mountains...with nothing between you and the cosmos but the Perseid meteor showers he saw while camping.
Yeah but secretly we all know John was toking up in the woods ☺️😉 and honestly there is nothing wrong with that no better feeling than being high in Colorado lmao
Just attended the 25th anniversary concert of John's death in Aspen. It was sold out and we all sang with the artists. Pure love for JD. Watch Jeff Pine on RUclips doing the eagle and the hawk. Beings me to tears💗
“Friends around the campfire and everybody’s high” )) cool! Loved his concert in Sydney and I respect he really loved Australia he was always welcome and appreciated!
Just watching this show makes me realize how we have lost SO MUCH in our country since the 70s. I am afraid we can never go back. Look how much Freedom, Hope, Joy, Peace, Prosperity, and Human Dignity has been stolen and stripped from us by those Evil people who mis-rule over us. People are sooo easily offended nowadays and will destroy you and your livelihood over a mis-spoken word or phrase. You cannot even get on a plane without your toddler being groped by a Federal TSA pervert. Take me back to 1975...please....
I agree. Evil is everywhere. You can just feel how hostile everyone is these days. I was born in 63 and it is a totally different world and NOT for the better. Still love his songs and still miss him.
Beautiful video. ...I hope I do get to see Colorado soon and see what John fell in love with... He is still terribly missed ....I wish I was in the video with him ~ ♡

Funny we were inches away from him backstage and they made us leave he was amazing. Awesome creative artist
Wow! What an amazing experience!
For our Caryn who we lost this year 2023! She so loved this song & John Denver! Rest in Peace dear one.....
There will never be another like John Denver. Rest In Peace, John.

I'll listen to heavy metal, gangsta rap, grunge, and punk. But I never get tired of this classic!
I don't understand how anyone could hate John Denver
Who does?
I have seen some comments by some not so bright small minded people sounded as though they very very jealous

He had his flaws. Notorious cheater. We’ve all had our flaws. Still love him as a human being.
@@avalondreaming1433 I think that's why he felt so at home in mountains where he could just be himself away from the critics.

My first concert ever; and the first album I ever bought was John Denver's Greatest Hits.

Was John Denver's Greatest Hits the only album you ever bought, liked and enjoyed

Its 2020.. no one is making songs about the mountains, forests, rivers, birds & the trees anymore.
@MoonsKitchenKL and that's one of the reasons this country....and the world more exactly, is on a downward spiral.

Overview
He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Coming home to a place he'd never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door
When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hanging by a song
But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
It keeps changing fast and it don't last for long
But the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullaby
Rocky Mountain high (Colorado)
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept the memory
Now he walks in quiet solitude the forests and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake
And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
Talk to God and listen to the casual reply
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend
While they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
More people, more scars upon the land
And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly
Rocky Mountain high
Colorado Rocky Mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybody's high
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
Rocky Mountain high (high in Colorado)
