  • I thought Alabama was getting hot, but fire on the trail is more than I bargained for! We've been walking through lots of charred forest these past few days. Today, we find ourselves on the tail end of a prescribed burn on the Pinhoti Trail outside Heflin, AL. Shouldn't the fire be out?

Those fires will smolder in little pockets for days. No need to worry usually as the area around it is all burned and there is no fuel for it to spread.
The heat is relative to what you are used to. I moved to northern Alabama from south Texas last October and I just laugh when folks around here are already saying it's hot an humid. It hasn't even reached 90 at my house here yet since last October. Texas has already had multiple 100 degree plus days this spring and the humidity is much worse there. The climate here is delightful to us and part of the reason we moved. If you are based in Colorado though it may seem pretty warm and humid to you. It's all about your frame of reference. Great report!

Yes, it’s really funny that I grew up in FL and spent 25 years in GA, so I know hot and humid! But 2 years in CO has me seriously spoiled.

@@JoyfulRambler I totally get it. We are adaptable and get used to "how it is" where we live quickly. I will probably complain about it here one day too! Lol.

The cave was used by the Indians. The rock down on the right of the cave was used to grind acorns and things into meal. That rock had a hole in the top of it. I love this area of the trail. Happy Hiking!

I absolutely love the Lower Shoals Shelter area! Also, Calhoun View is a great place to camp and watch the sun go down. Hope you enjoyed staying at the Green Hippies Hostel. I just love Daniel and Rut and how they are living a more self sustainable life. I also appreciate their love for God. Enjoyed your video!
