I’m a cyclist of 34 yrs and try to get out 5 x a week. Yes even in the winter. As I age it gets harder and harder. I had my crazy days in the saddle. This video intrigued me and I’m quitting my job, retiring, and gonna do one last push. Thanks for the video.

Sorry for your loss...truly. Do it....go for it. I am 76, lost my wife three years ago and have been sitting on my duff ever since. Watching these biking videos has inspired me. I just took delivery of my e-MTB and rode it last Sunday in our local National Forest, mostly hills and was thrilled to find that I can do it. I am now awaiting some panniers and a rack rag bag so I can go bikepacking. The nice thing about the e-bike is it lets you tweak the settings where you put in enough effort to get good exercise and build up to longer distances. I can't tell you how happy I am that I made this decision. I encourage you to get out there in the wind.

I appreciate the meticulous care you have taken in your editing, the pace is pitch perfect. Your GoPro and drone camera work is excellent and really captures the enormity of your undertaking. Your commentary adds genuine depth and soundtrack of tyre on grit and tastefully foregoing the dreadful generic overly loud beat heavy soundtrack is just super welcome. We get a sense of who you are without unnecessary personal detail, it was compelling from start to finish without ever succumbing to cliche.
I came across this RUclips video last night and I want to thank you for it from the bottom of my heart. One of my closest friends, who also happened to be my first cousin, passed away Friday. I found solitude and peace in your video. I found calm. My buddy Gary died from COVID on Friday. He was 41. He never even made it to a ventilator. While he didn’t ride bikes much (though he did a little at one point in his early adventures with his wife and the kids), my only wish is I had come across this a week ago while he was in the hospital, alone, battling this terrible virus. I think he would have been able to find some peace in the beauty of the outdoors which you so elegantly capture in this video. He loved the outdoors. Best to you. And thank you. My wife and I watched it in full last night.
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. I know it must be a crushing loss for everyone. I’m sending you all big hugs from Boulder. Thanks for your kind words, and I’m glad that Mother Nature’s beauty could help ease your pain.
I’m french-canadian and l must say that you gave me another view of the " typical" american which is much more flattering and better than what we often times see and hear on the news , yup they’re people with big hearts everywhere ! That should become a country ...all people with big hearts under one flag ...oh well one can dream ... 💚
Haven't been to the French part of Canada yet, only been to B.C. Nice people. I have however visited France on several occasions. Many Americans have a negative opinion of the French. My visits have shown me otherwise. Very nice people there too. We're all more similar than we are different I think.
yeah people over here have a very stereotypical view of Americans too (Denmark, Europe) but what I experienced in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansa, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington states were a LOT of warm and friendly people, some a bit too "political correct" that needs to losen up a little and live life... but generally welcoming people, taking me into their homes, sharing what they had and so on. You actually see that in most countries... ESPECIALLY when you get out of the big cities...

I’m in tears realizing iv been letting to much time go by and not pushing myself. What a motivational video. My heart swells with promise to myself to get moving !
I can't believe this is humanly possible, with all that weight. I might do this with pedal assist, until the battery runs out. Problem is that if the battery or electronics fail, ur cycling dead weight and heavy motor resistance
Planned on watching a couple minutes out of curiosity, couldn't stop, it was mesmerizing yet engaging. You have serious talent for shooting and editing, amazing work!
I dont know why i feel this one more, without the fancy music in the background, this one feels more genuine and inspiring! Thank you Ryan, you continue to inspire people all over!!!
1. Even though I knew it was coming, I got so happy to see John and Mira when they appeared, and so sad when they they left. 2. That John is a powerhouse cyclist isn't he? 3. Love Dana! 4. It was fun to watch this ride all in one shot. What stood out was that you started the journey alone, picked up, and dropped friends along the way, and ended like you started.
I can tell as a Swede that we are well aware of the great divide in the US as well. We literally know Americans also consists of generous, warm, loving people. There are plenty Americans living abroad.
hello mate, stumbled across this video today and it might just be the best video i have ever watched on youtube. It's like magic, different friends joining you on the route but your constant companion... the trail in front of you. Makes you realise, in a pretty shitty time in our short history on this planet that most humans are really decent folk. Awesome editing, can't imagine how long you have spent splicing this together, you have a good energy friend. But... that dog sold it to me man, she's better than all of us.
Great video. Quick tip for animals (particularly bears) - if you strap bells to your vest or bike they'll ring out as you ride, any bears will hear it and will move away from the trail, it's a tip I got from a bear sanctuary in Romania, so if you ever are in bear country and worry about hitting one on the path, a few bells will drop that probability quite a bit! also good when hiking, making noise as you go will scare animals to a safe distance away, and your bike is super quiet which is probably why that deer didn't hear you coming :)
Gosh......that has to be one of the best travel videos I have ever watched. Amazing story telling mate. Blown away by how minimalist your kit is for a trip like that. Great lessons thank you for showing me your beautiful world.
This was an awesome vid. Like others have said, I got into it thinking I wouldn't watch the whole thing in one sitting, and then couldn't drop it. Even after watching the divide series not to long ago, the absence of the music makes it a completely new experience. And, it made me choke up again to see John and Mira, and Kevin leave. The editing is amazing! Thanks for all the work you put into this. I found myself yearning even more for the warmer riding days ahead.
Such an incredibly immersive and uplifting video. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure. Amazing sights and sounds, but let's face it, Mira stole the show!
Superbly done. Whether one is a cyclist or not, this vid presents so much wonderful life, nature and inspiration. Better than any big budget sensationalized, embellished garbage of Hollywood to even PBS, Natnl. Geographic stuff. This fellow presents it most realism and feel to the screen. Kudos to no music!!!-Cheers and happy trails!
Wow. Took me 3 evenings to watch this all (had to check out all the stops on Google Maps). Completely blown away. Best video I've ever seen on YT. Amazing vibe, skilled camera work (and drone footage), great editing. Incredible.
"All I have to do is pedal" Truly the right way to approach not only this trail, but a lot of life. Embrace the journey and just keep moving forward. I'm only halfway in, but really enjoying this journey!
Im not even going to lie. I was watching videos on how to use bike gears and somehow this started playing... and i can’t stop watching. Too bad I have to go to work in about 30 Minutes so I’m definitely going to have to save this to watch for later 😂🙌🏾
This video was so satisfying...instead of watching some mindless nonsense on Netflix, this is a very fun video. The friendships, the scenery, the amazing athleticism and endurance to make such a long ride...and, of course, the star of the show...Mira! Thank you for doing this and sharing.
I feel for Kevin going up those hills, walking is okay, he got up, that's all that matters. Mira! what a companion. Excellent film! Really enjoyed it. Hats off! Keep going, Ryan. 😀
I’ve got to admit I had a good chuckle when he asked Kevin what he does to motivate when it gets hard and he says “I’m a beast, no mountain has anything on me” Then it cuts to him walking up the hill. But good on him, out there making it happen!
Love this video. Thank you so much. It is heart warming to see all the generosity and kindness shown by everyone you met. ( in stark contrast of what I saw on tv over the last 12 months ) My own experience of Americans I’ve met is that they are kind, friendly and polite. Love from Scotland 🏴

This is so good Ryan I can’t put it into words, I didn’t even know this trail existed. Watched every second of it including all the ads, wanted to make sure you get as much ad revenue and watch time from my view as possible. Thanks for taking us along with you.
I much appreciated the nature as it is - the wind, the road songs of the tires on the pebbles, the water streams, the rain, the wind, and the lark-like escapes in the sky... so real... so nice! Congratulation to Ryan for this work!!
Ryan, i just spent 2 amazing hours of my life watching your ride. Great landscapes, lovely companions and amazing encounters. The amount of effort you put in is simply crazy! Please keep your positive state of mind and pass a huge hug to Mira next time you see her, she was such a great supporting role :-) All the very best from France and stay safe.
My wife and I started watching the first few mins. 2 hours went by. Amazing. I pray my wrist heals up so I can make the trip from South Africa to Tour Divide. Thank you. Great job.
Just watched top to bottom (of Colorado that is...) What a gift! By that I mean the time you took to improve the viewers experience. The static shots, the drone launches and retrievals, the ride bys, especially the downhill ride bys.... All to improve our visual journey. Fantastic work. Thank you!
This is amazing. Wish I had it on Blu-ray because even at 1080p setting, RUclips can't quite handle natural scenery very well and makes a lot of it blurry/blocky (compression artifacts). Anyway, I'm still loving it. Edit: Mira is the coolest dog ever.
it is not easy to get the camera shots you do while biking acrossed America. The drone shots are epic, and placing the camera ahead then backtracking + the editing shows the level of work involved and we appreciate it very much. God bless
Funny that the auto subtitle function keeps indicating the tire noise as “applause”, I guess in a way it is cheering you on ✊✌️. Enjoying rewatching Miras adventure that she aloud you to come on 👍
Very awesome content here. Felt like I just went on the ride with you as well. I give you mad props for just not doing the Great Divide but also for working the camera solo. That’s takes motivation and dedication for one person to tackle all at once. Rock on and keep them coming.

I fell asleep and my algorithm had this playing on youtube and after watching most of it I have to say thank you for bringing back old memories. It was the summer of grade 11 and me and my friend Rocky rode our bikes from Vancouver to Jasper down to Banff across to Calgary down to Baab Montana, across Glacier National Park up Idaho and then finished with the hardest part of the ride across hwy 3 in BC back to Vancouver. It was 23 days w 2 rest days I rode a cannondale and Rocky had a rocky mtn and we had front and rear panniers a tent and our bikes both weighed over 100lbs. It was incredible the journey and we went through some stunning country and hit all types of weather even snow and met the kindest most generous people, I think he took 400 bucks and I had 700 and we both came back w money…. The camping was done on the side of the hwy mostly and the dinner was usually rice and beans my treat was always apple pie a la mode. If I remember correctly our biggest day was 3 mtn passes, needless to say we came back to grade 12 and walked on whatever team we wanted to join, it was the early 90’s and I feel that trip defined the rest of my life. A couple years later I moved to Banff to permanently live, didn’t have fear as a young man to move to the Carribean and live there for a few years as well or take 3 months holidays a year and travel to 44 countries. I’m 44 now, still active but watching this has reinspired me right when I needed it so thank you again for posting this!
Oh man, this was so beautifully shot! Like one long cycling meditation. I was so invested that when Dana dropped off the ride, I was ready to hop on my bike and ride the rest of the way with you, Ryan!

I love the fact that this awesome video has no silly, cringey music. Just pure raw sounds of nature, wind and bicycles 💜
It was like a Documentary !
I appreciate that my friend, most of us are very good, and that goes for any country. Big hearts everywhere!
Greetings from another atypical American in South Korea who loves bicycle touring! So many great people in the world. Peace to you!
Haven't been to the French part of Canada yet, only been to B.C. Nice people. I have however visited France on several occasions. Many Americans have a negative opinion of the French. My visits have shown me otherwise. Very nice people there too. We're all more similar than we are different I think.
Ryan, thank you for respecting NM. We all need to do our part to keep each other safe even though it can suck.
yeah people over here have a very stereotypical view of Americans too (Denmark, Europe) but what I experienced in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansa, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Washington states were a LOT of warm and friendly people, some a bit too "political correct" that needs to losen up a little and live life... but generally welcoming people, taking me into their homes, sharing what they had and so on. You actually see that in most countries... ESPECIALLY when you get out of the big cities...

Thanks Ryan for showing what ya'll really are doing out there on bikes, very cool!
Very cool! You’re so generous!!
I teared up as you said good bye to the dog as well.
I connected my PC to my big screen TV just to be able to appreciate your video even more. This is as good as watching the Nat Geo channel, truly a wonderfully produced documentary
That sounds like an awesome setup. Hope you enjoy it
I like this video, because no music, so l can hear the sound of the wind, your tyre and other. Thank you, subscribed.
Thanks for subscribing, I appreciate it! Hope you enjoy my videos!
Are riding an electric bike??? I am thinking about getting one. In iowa where I live we have the Great bike ride across iowa which I would love to do; I am 67.
@@susannorman4476 Ryan's mom has an electric bike and loves it. But here he's riding a Priority 600 w/ a Pinion gearbox and Gates belt drive. If you search his channel you'll find videos of Ryan riding Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. I say get the electric and join him! Pardon me for butting in, Ryan, but I didn't know if/when you'd see this question, being over a million views and all. :-)
I’m so much more connected to this bike ride with no music . I thank you
Glad you enjoy the natural sounds
our last daughter graduates 2025 and this recap has my wife and i so stoked to take summer 2025 to ride this. not only will we be kid free but it'll be our first summer of retirement from 33 years of teaching high school kids. thanks ryan from fueling the fire. very enjoyable video
Right on!! You’ll love this experience. Thank for teaching our future!
I’m in tears realizing iv been letting to much time go by and not pushing myself. What a motivational video. My heart swells with promise to myself to get moving !
I hope you do!! Getting outside is so good for your soul. Have fun with it
This is awesome. That guy cycling with his dog is so cool! Loved watching this
Couldn't help but laugh when the hail started at 41:27 and the dogs got googles on!
I have to say, I missed Mira towards the end of the vid.
Thank you! This means a lot to me
Same!
@@duzer how do you get the done shots while riding?
Same
@@cliftone350 He didn't answer, but DJI drones have a function where they will hover around you autonomously
idk how easy/hard it is to operate a drone but the fact that you took the time to get those shots is truly professional. very pleasant video to watch
I dont know why i feel this one more, without the fancy music in the background, this one feels more genuine and inspiring! Thank you Ryan, you continue to inspire people all over!!!
Happy to hear that! I like this version too
The drone footage of the wild horses is hard to beat. What an excellent trip you had!
Magical moment
I got fired from my job and dicided to bike the gdt watching this for reaserch thx so much for this really puts what im going to do in perspective
HAve fun out there!
Bears?!
I'm so glad that you felt all the feels, that was my goal with this video! And yes, john is a very strong rider!
I really miss the dog
Mirra is one of the greatest treasures on this planet.
Glad you enjoyed it. Less is more out there in the woods
@@duzer especially when you have to lug it up mountains.
I'll echo everyone else's statements, great work.
Was Mira's human on a Salsa?
@@roddheino Salsa Blackborow
Very smooth sound editing that goes easily unnoticed. That's when you know it's done right.
Thanks, I appreciate that you notice the little things that TAKE ME FOREVER! ;)
I love this edit, soothing.
Also funny how the subtitles generator takes the sound of the tires rolling over gravel as an applause.
Such a great video. No unnecessary drama and music. Just humans and nature in coexistence
Thanks Jose! I'm really happy that you enjoyed this version, I loved putting it together.
Ditto.
Such an incredibly immersive and uplifting video. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure. Amazing sights and sounds, but let's face it, Mira stole the show!
Mira is the best!
Her joy is wonderful to watch. I love the shots of John with his arm around her while he's pedalling. Best friends. :-)
Everything I love. The great outdoors. The west. Biking. The sound of nature. Good people! Thank you for the effort you put into this! A new fan
The best part , No music. Perfect.
Thanks, nature has the best soundtrack
Your editing skills are on par with your human skills! Great journey, very inspiring!
Thanks!! I really appreciate that. Thanks for watching
Incredible.
Thanks Bob!! Glad that you enjoyed this, I truly loved the experience, and then putting it all together
You know what I like it the most? Where anybody will be pissed off. You keep smiling again and again.
"All I have to do is pedal"
Truly the right way to approach not only this trail, but a lot of life. Embrace the journey and just keep moving forward. I'm only halfway in, but really enjoying this journey!
AMAZING! Love this without music, love the sounds of Riding and Nature. Your enthusiasm is the best, your friends rock and Mira is a star!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@duzer Is Van Duzer a Dutch or Flemish name?
This is such a metaphor for life
Never heard of Ryan Van Duzer until yesterday. Now he's a mentor.
Hey thanks!! Lemme know if you ever have questions about bike adventures
Im not even going to lie. I was watching videos on how to use bike gears and somehow this started playing... and i can’t stop watching. Too bad I have to go to work in about 30
Minutes so I’m definitely going to have to save this to watch for later 😂🙌🏾
I appreciate you watching my video!! It’s fun to hear from people like you
This video was so satisfying...instead of watching some mindless nonsense on Netflix, this is a very fun video. The friendships, the scenery, the amazing athleticism and endurance to make such a long ride...and, of course, the star of the show...Mira! Thank you for doing this and sharing.
Didn't know you could enjoy the outdoors like this with a bicycle.
I feel for Kevin going up those hills, walking is okay, he got up, that's all that matters. Mira! what a companion. Excellent film! Really enjoyed it. Hats off! Keep going, Ryan. 😀
Walking is super ok.
I’ve got to admit I had a good chuckle when he asked Kevin what he does to motivate when it gets hard and he says “I’m a beast, no mountain has anything on me” Then it cuts to him walking up the hill. But good on him, out there making it happen!
Gravel bikes sucks
Ya, what was his gearing though? Also tires look a bit narrow but love his spirit.
What a great video and adventure. Loved every moment of it. No dull points, kept my interest the whole time. Best adventure video on RUclips.
Thanks! I appreciate that immensely
I got my first Vista 10 speed English racing bike in 1973. I still have her plus my mountain bikes. I'm 64. I still love to ride.
That’s awesome!!
@@duzer I can't ride like you do anymore due to getting slammed to the ground with the force of a ton. Horse wreck. Broken to bits. Care-flite. 2 year recovery. By damn, I did it and can still ride my bikes.
I really enjoyed watching from beginning to end and when John and Mira suddenly appeared it gave me a huge smile. 😃 Thanks for putting this together, you did such an awesome job and even though I loved the usual music this was really nice!
So glad that you liked this different style
Where did John and Mira go you never said when they just left ???

This is so good Ryan I can’t put it into words, I didn’t even know this trail existed. Watched every second of it including all the ads, wanted to make sure you get as much ad revenue and watch time from my view as possible. Thanks for taking us along with you.
WOW! You don't need to watch those ads, but I appreciate it ;) Thanks so much for watching this
I much appreciated the nature as it is - the wind, the road songs of the tires on the pebbles, the water streams, the rain, the wind, and the lark-like escapes in the sky... so real...

The subtitles think the gravel under your tires is “applause” 😂
The gravel applauses. Nice way to think about it.

Even the gravel was impressed. Legit subtitles me thinks 😁
What a way for the subtitles to translate that. I like it. Thanks for mentioning it.

Just watched top to bottom (of Colorado that is...) What a gift! By that I mean the time you took to improve the viewers experience. The static shots, the drone launches and retrievals, the ride bys, especially the downhill ride bys.... All to improve our visual journey. Fantastic work. Thank you!
Mera is such a good pup she makes the whole teem shine
This is amazing. Wish I had it on Blu-ray because even at 1080p setting, RUclips can't quite handle natural scenery very well and makes a lot of it blurry/blocky (compression artifacts). Anyway, I'm still loving it. Edit: Mira is the coolest dog ever.
Not even done watching yet, but absolutely love this. It has a whole different vibe with no music. Well done.
Thanks my man! My goal was to create something a little different! Enjoy

it is not easy to get the camera shots you do while biking acrossed America. The drone shots are epic, and placing the camera ahead then backtracking + the editing shows the level of work involved and we appreciate it very much. God bless
Such a beautiful film. Reminder of what life is. The open road, a bike and a friendly dog
Thank you for taking the time to watch this, I loved creating it
Funny that the auto subtitle function keeps indicating the tire noise as “applause”, I guess in a way it is cheering you on ✊✌️. Enjoying rewatching Miras adventure that she aloud you to come on 👍
Oh really? That cracks me up, and you’re right, I do feel like the gravel is cheering us on
Very awesome content here.
