Didn't Bucky kill one or both of Tony's parents? If Rogers the Musical is canonically produced by Stark industries it kind of makes sense that they'd minimize Bucky's role in Steve's life. I'm probably giving them too much credit lol
god i thought i was over how dirty they did bucky with that steve ending in endgame but just your one mention of "i'm with you 'til the end of the line" being used to support the peggy/steve relationship in this fucking musical spoof got my blood boiling like it was 2019 all over again wtf
the only thing i remember about this show is seeing someones comment on a clip saying "imagine being cast to play pre transformation steve" and that really stuck with me
"the ensemble is the unsung hero of the show" as a pit orchestra member, I know you forgot about us, but I like it that way. I specifically picked a job that takes place underneath the stage because I don't want a single person looking at me, conductor included
as an mcu steve ending hater and bucky barnes enjoyer boy do i have some problems with this but as an mcu fan who understands its a 30 minutes show and also as a person who likes fun i saw this every day of my disneyland trip and then immediately came home and made my roommate watch it
It is canonical to the MCU that people who joined the Avengers after the Battle of New York City were depicted in the musical in the Battle of New York City though. Hawkeye points it out. When asked about his enjoyment of the show, he says “I was there. You know who wasn’t though? That guy.” And he points at Ant-Man on the stage.
before even watching that far into the video (i know sorry 😅) it kinda makes me sad that people are calling rtm cringe when it's portrayed as "cringe" (read: camp) by the hawkeye show itself. it like touches the same nerve in me that people talking shit about spongebob when it was actually a great show and people are just snobby and don't know how to have fun did... also the first dude who played skinny steve for opening has my entire heart frfrfr
shoutout to the clueless mothers that were actually following along with the fun superhero stuff then got absolute WHIPLASH from future steve just Showing Up and there's a glowing rock and time travel? now??? must have been INSANE with no context
Not to go massively tech nerd, but I have so many problems with the lighting in the scene where Steve goes back to be with Peggy. 1 I love the whole stage being lit for that scene. Nothing like 2 people standing 25 feet apart on a big empty black floor, in LEDs, with a random spotlight upstage right, to communicate intimacy. 2 Also I know he was standing in the spotlight before, but why doesn't it go out after he crosses downstage? 3 Why is the focus so sharp on that lamp? Could Disney not get a frost? 4 Also that lamp is way out of trim.
If Modern Disney can do anything it’s produce slightly above average musical theater. Fr tho it’s nice to see something new staged live by Disney after so many years of mediocre movie musicals. It’s a little embarassing how much better this small ass theme park performance is than most of the recent live action remakes lol
As a marvel fan, I gotta say it's weird to see this. I definitely agree with some of your points on changing the Hitler name drops to HYDRA, and adding "modern" superheroes to "past" events. Disney definitely tried to milk the most out of these shows with all of the name drops lol. HOWEVER...Considering how in the Hawkeye show ant man was added to "Save the city" because he was prominently involved in creating the musical, I feel like even the MCU citizens know it's not meant to be factual, just like irl Hamilton. It's meant to be fun, you're meant to go "oh yeah, I remember learning about that person." Tony Stark had a TON of beef with nick fury, I completely understand why (if someone like pepper oversaw the final script) he and SHIELD were written as a complete joke, because they were so flawed HYDRA had infected them for decades. Someone else wrote a comment about Bucky purposefully having a smaller role in the show because he murdered Tony's parents, and I agree that's a very good point! I imagine, in the MCU version, he has a longer scene of being rescued or whatever but it was cut down drastically for the Disney version. The obvious exclusion is still clear though like you pointed out which lines up perfectly.
A couple of the things in What You Missed are references to Steve's little list that he has in Winter Soldier. Hence some of the more... peculiar choices
I don’t remember if it’s also Stark Industries in Hawkeye, but the idea of making it so that presumably Pepper, Happy and possibly the input or idea coming from a pre-death Tony or even just any of them signing of on the idea is super wild to me. The 30 minute version is frustrating for that idea in its own way, but the idea of a Hamilton-esque 3 hour version, going through all of the events I assume, is dubious. When you consider the fact that we have a direct example of what they would do with each event, with Save The City, it would put the idea that they’d not only misrepresent events, but actively misuse living peers and puppet around dead friends/family/colleagues. Like Natasha would have JUST died. Even just the battle of NY alone, Tony had years of panic attacks about that, which clearly his close friends and wife would know about, so they would have an intimate knowledge of how serious and traumatizing it would be for all of them. It’s one thing to have it come from the general public and be bad and tone deaf, but a whole other thing for it to come from people who in many ways were there. Clint didn’t seem to know much at all, so if it’s by and from Stark Industries it would be wild to not tell, consult or get permission from him even slightly. I get the joke that Tony would’ve done it to fuck with Steve, but it never came to fruition and came out after both of their deaths(FATWS kind of confirmed he did pass), and it just seems mocking. If it was just Steve’s past is one thing, but events they were present and traumatizes for only a decade prior? Edit// I’m farther in the video now-and I’m getting reminded of parts of the show I forgot abt-if it’s by Stark Industries, why would they include or facilitate a conspiracy theory abt the Time Stone?
Off the top of my head, the thing I remember most is when Hawkeye shoots an arrow at one of the miniboss villains, then he shoots another arrow to split the first arrow mid flight. The 2 halves of the first arrow hit the two henchmen standing to the sides of the miniboss, but the miniboss catches the second arrow which would’ve hit him in the chest. Then the miniboss says “nice shot.” And Hawkeye says “no shit!” Which was pretty funny.
I remember watching an interview when the hawkeye show came out where Mark Shaiman said something along the lines of "We made some of the stuff canonically incorrect on purpose because adaptations sometimes be like that" and I thought that was kinda meta and cool, so I was a little disappointed when the DCA version ended up being a very "safe" version, mostly straight forward with some giggles here and there. I really wish Disney went the extra mile and made a 3-hour show on broadway...this version kind of took the joy out of the whole joke for me. At least it was better than getting nothing I guess... Edit: I also remember him saying something like "Random citizens have a big role in the song because people like to make everything about themselves" and I thought that was hilarious. As Harry said what we got is a different musical from the Hawkeye show.
It's funny that this came out when it did, I just saw a friend of mine in the show (he was in for Thor's track) nice to hear another perspective! I will say while I can't speak for disney specifically I've worked as a theme park performer on and off for around 5 years now and in my experience a lot of the shows scripts are simply written by management in charge of the department. This again could be different for disney as they have, well, disney's budget but it may explain some of your questions in regards to lyric changes and those odd moments in the show. Regardless, great video and break a leg this Tuesday!
I think it's very possible that movies about superheroes for which Alan Silvestri wrote music exist in this universe, considering that superhero comic books also exist. I mean, it makes more sense they'd make a Captain America biopic before a musical.
Am I the only one that remembers this or am I crazy or canonically in the MCU, the public doesn’t know that Steve is old man rogers? That they’ve been told he’s gone to work on moon base or something?? If this musical is supposed to be canon to the MCU, why would they show old man rogers to the general public… ALSO when youngen Steve goes back in time to be with Peggy.. the war is over. The Nazis have been defeated.. who is he fighting for him to go “I could do this all day” with.. is he going to participate in the Vietnam war?!
If you really want to make sense in canon, it could be seen kind of like "fanfiction". For the people in the MCU the story of Captain America hasn't ended yet, but the musical needed an ending, so people could think that the going back to be with his girlfriend from the war was just a creative liberty taken by the musical to have a "happy ending". I could even see it as a way to hide old man Steve, with the writers of the show saying that they made the ending up and it definitly isn't real so people don't figuere out what happend. I don't think these is what disney had in mind when they wrote the show, but is a way to fit it in canon. Also I found funny how in a musical where they knew where the story had to end, they choose to focus on the line "I can do this all day", because it show how much going back and retiring doesn't make sense for that character.
21:54 if we go off Hawkeye the musical is supposed to be inaccurate and that’s why Antman is there so In Universe mentioning future avengers was fan service
I didn’t pay for premium seating and still got really good seats on the left hand side 3 rows back. I caught some of the confetti when it fell. They had plenty of room for people to still line up in the orchestra section and yet families just wandered into balcony and mezzanine. Clearly they don’t know theater terminology.
I've been watching all your videos and I thought you were huge, I love your stuff. I've even watched some of the stuff from like 2 years ago, yea, choice? Or episodes. Anyway I'm a fan, long term

1:32 a dutch teampark has a theater that has 70 - 75 min shows, this week it's on once every day, but in September it's on three times a week. i'm pretty sure you can come see it without tickets for the amusement park tho
You should seriously consider reviewing these two movies: 1. _Christmas is Cancelled_ (2021) 2. _Max Winslow and the House of Secrets_ (2020) Both these films were shot to be a much bigger deal but because of the pandemic the first one was quietly thrown onto streamer Lionsgate Play in late-2021 which hardly anyone uses and a very limited theatrical run in select countries, while the second one despite being on the festival circuit between late-2019 and early-2020 only got a very limited theatrical run in the US and UK later in the year. Summary: 1. Girl returns home for Christmas to find out her dad has a new GF and it's her highschool nemesis, so she does everything she can to try to break them up. Starring Dermot Mulroney, Janel Parrish (To All The Boys), Hayley Orrantia (The Goldbergs). 2. Willy-Wonka-meets-Elon-Musk when a tech billionaire launches a competition to win an AI-powered mansion before it goes rogue. Starring Chad Michael Murray, Sydne Mikelle , Tanner Buchanan (Cobra Kai).
I remember there was LARPing but Hawkeye was making fun of it the whole time and pretty much dissing the fandom of people who do that, I don’t LARP also think it’s silly, but even I felt offended by it

Pepper haha. Also I'd watch the shit out of that
@@Chibbykins omg yeah you're right lmao i watched this first thing in the morning
I cannot believe that Bucky appears on stage once. They don't show his rescue or 'death'. And his 'end of the line' line is used for Peggy. Wild. 😂

the fact that they cut out Bucky so completely... homophobia
