There was nothing like The Grande Ballroom back then. “It” happened before all of the bands had the huge entourages they have now. They were part of “us” for a few short years, and then it all went away. I worked in the coat check room for 18 months (2 seasons - not in the summers) and was there every weekend from the time it opened to almost when it closed. It was magic. You had to experience it to understand it. I will never forget it. Ever. Thank you Uncle Russ.
What a great venue that was. Saw so many great shows there. Something like that hasn't happened since and never will. What an exciting time for music. Thank God for the Grande and WABX!
born to late, this would have been my scene, but I'd also been at Michigan theatre, t rex and Capt beefheart..played live there, my uncle seen spirit and Jethro Tull ,which is awesome ,shot dope there in honor of the musicians
I used to go to the Grande. And used to listen to Russ Gibb on the radio. Hard to believe but the Grande is up for sale right now for 5 million. It’s owned by a church and if you want to buy it they are willing to negotiate. Lol 😂
Save the Grande!! It deserves to live! Worry about the location, what to do with it, etc LATER. Anyone see the Who show at the Palace a few days ago? Pete mentioned the Grande a bunch of times.... "going down to the Grande Ballroom."
America is so wasteful and lame, in Europe you have buildings/ music halls theaters that are 500 years old that are perfectly preserved ( even after being bombed out in WWII, then rebuilt)…how come the Europeans can manage that? because they prioritize and are focused, and they value their historical culture, whereas the U.S. it's easy come, easy go. if the U.S. is ever bombed out, or has a natrual catastrophe- you can kiss it good -bye..because there will be no incentive to re-build.

Excellent. Played there quite a few times with Soap Blues Band, was on the bill with CREAM and think about it to this day!

I've never been more inspired by a youtube video in my life. 9:30
Thanks for this mark. You should do an update video.
Michigan Palace was the replacement. New York Dolls, Kiss, Rush, Status Quo, The Sensatonal Alex Harvey Band, etc.
Don't forget the Eastown.

it's a historic building and should have been restored. Led Zeppelin played there.
The asking price of 5 million for that venue in it's present condition is absurd.
Sentimental value has no real dollar value.
