It's scored round by round. If a guy wins 4 out of 5 rounds, it makes absolutely no difference how close he was to losing by knockout at the end of the last round, he wins on the scorecard.
I agree that was a bs call. The scoring needs to be more in depth and technical then instead of a simple tally of number of successfully placed hits. The scoring should be dictated by number of landed hits plus a severity level from minor, moderate to severe. Smash landed far more devastating hits than Sam and did overall more damage so logically he is the winner... I agree.
