Coming back here after the first migration attempt: This decision aged *VERY* well. Johnathan making this call was *100% correct* and has saved us and them a *ton* of headaches. 1:18 "... we could possibly have made the original launch date, but I am no longer confident we could do it *without making mistakes"* As of me writing (14. Nov) the original launch would have been *tomorrow* and the migration patch of yesterday has just just failed. This would have been a *very bad* launch for PoE2 and a massive stressful blunder for GGG. With the game thus delayed they now still have time to make corrections and get things right. Again: GG Johnathan for making the right call.
He's upset! First time ever I see this while being upfront and clear about it. We believe in you GGG you are the real goats and am SO EXCITED for the BEST game ever to exist coming soon!

I've been following Grinding Gear Games for a long time and know how professional you all have always been. Thank you for this statement. As for the idea of being able to use items purchased in PoE1’s store in PoE2-that’s fantastic! I didn’t know that and am thrilled. Now I know I can buy items without fear of losing them when I play PoE2. I hope everything goes well, and we can spend countless hours playing this new masterpiece.
Nothing to be sorry about, development estimates are notoriously notorious. This is the reasonable course of action and I appreciate the technical explanation.

or maybe its just the poe community has no dignity. right now this news is only seen by the most hardcore poe players. just wait until poe2 hits the mainstream on steam. i have seen games ripped apart for much less (see overwatch2)
@@hfweuiofnweuio500 Overwatch2 didn't get ripped apart for "much less", it got ripped apart for literally scamming it's buyers, and then trying to weasel out of their promises. on top of making other controversial changes to the pvp mode too. Also, normal players who aren't super invested in poe and poe2, will not even see this, and if they do they will literally just go "meh". It's the hardcore players that would be most outraged at this, which isn't really happening as you can see. I don't know if I fully agree with it if that's the idea behind their approach, but PoE has a really strong community, and being encouraged to interact with the community to find the resources and tools you need to improve in the game helps make it special.
Outside of those two points though, Idk how you can say PoE is a bad game, you're totally within your right to not like a game, but there's a difference between "I don't like this" and "This is bad", Subjective Vs Objective statements.
@@Zoltri The amount of buttons you have to press to play a game does not matter when it comes to making it better. There are games that requires a ton of input that are bad, and then there are games that requires a ton of input that are good. So the amount of input available and or required of the player is irrelevant when it comes to the quality of a game. Likewise there are games that requires little input that are good, and there are games that require little input that are bad. So im not sure why you make this point

So true. Much rather wait for a smooth game.
I like the sentiment, but it’s not always true. Look at No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk’s come back

You wouldn't see this from Blizzard Entertainment in your lifetime.
Even if you did, players would be livid. Difference is that Blizzard hasn't done anything to earn any goodwill of the playerbase.
Currently going through the exact opposite on the WOW's 20 year anniversary event no less. Rushed, boring content that caused game breaking bugs and performance issues upon release. And we're paying a subscription fee for that shit. On top they had the audacity to release a $90 dollar store mount alongside that whole mess. Unbelievable.
yeah, they would just release a bad product and then fix it later (if they fix it at all)
ye like they didnt delay shadowlands launch by a month, oh right they did
@@wiliz13 so true. we saw how much those CEO's took away from the company. Blizzard consumed itself so a couple suits could become near billionaires.
As disappointed as I am to hear this, I also work with a legacy database. So I know _exactly_ what you're talking about. I do not envy the people who have to sort through that 10+ year old DB and correct all the anomalies.
3 weeks isn't enough for that, see you all in April
@@AhaOk2398 My thoughts exactly. 2024 ain't gonna be the PoE II EA year. Merging DB's requires pros, hope they aren't doing it inhouse

THE BRAVE MAN IS THE ONE THAT ABLE TO SAY SORRY.
Appreciate the transparency!
Me too
Absolutely nothing to apologize about. You guys have earned our trust in full, and delaying for this reason is more than understandable. We'll be here for whenever it's ready, and we're so excited to experience what you've created.
funny.
How when a company does something you do not like, but says theyre sorry, explain why, give extra info, and even blame themselves makes u believe in them more.
Because unlike many other companies that have delayed their games in recent times, Jonathan here shows absolute no bs policy "this is the problem, this is how much time it will take"
that's called being naive and stupid consumer.
Psychology is easy when you get the hang of it.
@@Mrfiufaufou the surprising thing is how often folks have no hang of it
That's true for big ass companies. GGG has us with'em because they have always been transparent and have always listened to the community. Also most of us also play other games and have experienced rushed releases that disapointed us very hard(for me it was CS2), and I dont want POE to be a shame
Much love to you guys, and thanks so much for taking the extra time to get the quality right! You're awesome!
"But I'm no longer confident we could do it without making mistakes, and these are the kind of mistakes we can't let happen." Responsibility and ethics steering a product release, as opposed to a mad rush for profits. It's like an oasis in the desert.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop and appreciate the transparency. Can't wait for the livestream!
Thank God, my Factorio factory can still keep growing!

Now we have time for more builds, right?)
Hey Johnathan. Thank you for being open and direct with this.
Does it suck? A little. But the fact that you take care of the game and your team this way speaks volumes to the quality of your character. Please send the best regards to the people resolving these issues as well as the entire team at GGG. I know that you are working very hard and trying your best. I fully understand that this is something you don't want to fumble at the finish line.
lying trash devs
Takes a man to stand up and take the blame. You sir are a man. Thank you for your honesty and openness. We salute you.
Apologizing is not how you take responsibility, but i will let this one slide since the release date is not that important to players. There is going to be more serious issues with the game i think. But lets see
So now we now the name of the god of transparency: Jonathan Rogers. Thanks GGG for being resposible and thoughtful. POE2 must have the best 1st impression for the playerbase and we respect your intention to do things right aiming for it.
mate, we got your back. Thanks for the transparency and hopefully you get all the stuff done with the 3 extra weeks.
Take all the time you need!! I appreciate how you guys are making this perfect as possible. Migrating microtransactions to a new game looks rough!
You guys are the best! I’m not even mad or disappointed. Thanks for notifying us
I really like that the person giving the explanation understands the exact reasons for the delay and gives specific examples of what needs to be done. Take the time you need, you got my support ⚔️
First time ever I see so many people saying "that is okay" when the game is delayed. Gained respect of players❤
Woudl be ok if they had said that 1 month ago. Now it is too late to reschedule my PTO.
its just to late
because the company deserves respect. cant say that from a lot of big companies nowadays. respect goes both ways
Those who want respect, give respect.
@@tiagostein4057 Where do you work that is so strict on your PTO ? Then again I am assuming you aren't a director or something that the company relies on.
This is ALL WE WANT from DEVs Honesty and Knowing what is happening, great Job Rogers. Very happy with this video and the ethics.
Thank you for the open communication and thank you for taking the time to get it right.
Of all the developers in the industry today, GGG is one of the FEW that deserve patience and respect. They've treated the community very well and with all that to perfect and test, it is totally valid. I'm so grateful for the countless hours I've gotten out of PoE 1 and I'm thrilled to spend even more time playing PoE 2.
The devs themselves on most games deserve respect its mostly upper management and the stakeholders at the top who shouldnt be respected. The devs are doing what they are told sadly and its sad to see that people think they have power to create realistic deadlines for their work when its not at all possible sometimes. Look at the crunch time that some devs are pressured to do to finish a product. Its shocking
@@LazurizSolari Crunch times haven't been much of a thing for a long while bud. Nice argument.
@@voxii_13 sorry to inform you, but a release date/deadline IS a "crunch time"
@@CrazVidzNot only that, you need to have more “crunch times” to be ready for testing way before the actual release date. You need to make sure your code can’t be exploited and users aren’t vulnerable, etc
Sad news! But I appreciate that you are being transparent and taking your time to do it right.
Mad respect. As an industry vet from the PS1-PS3 era, I am happy we are finally seeing studios stand up and doing the right thing. Waiting for things to be ready before asking for money from us. We appreciate you.
Well said.
Thank you for the communication, transparency and for taking the initiative and polemical move to delay. The goal should always be to aim for the best quality. It is a game and we can wait. :)
Force to you for the work to be done!
Man, I love this company and how clearly they communicate with the community.
No worries about the delay! This merely gives some of the games I am playing right now a chance of being finished before my free time becomes consumed by PoE2. 😅
I had a random thought yesterday that the next vid we'd see was a delay video. This is my fault Jonathan not yours. Take your time!
you jinxed it for everyone man haha
lol same
Dec 6th is basically even better. Nearly in time for the Christmas holiday
Good point. Planned?
Coming back here after the first migration attempt: This decision aged *VERY* well. Johnathan making this call was *100% correct* and has saved us and them a *ton* of headaches.
1:18 "... we could possibly have made the original launch date, but I am no longer confident we could do it *without making mistakes"*
As of me writing (14.
As I dev myself, I feel totally related. Data migrating hardly ever goes well the first time you try to do it.
He's upset! First time ever I see this while being upfront and clear about it. We believe in you GGG you are the real goats and am SO EXCITED for the BEST game ever to exist coming soon!
Me too. Usually companies tweet about game delays in one post, as callously as possible. after this video immediately gets +rep to ggg
Nice communication, that's all we are waiting for. Thanks GGG.
your words are enough thank you for your time to tell us the news better 4 weeks than 4 months
I'm a software developer of 10 years. Migrating data, re-modeling it and making it backwards compatible sounds like such a challenge. It's a huge process of performing the migration itself and then also testing it all out and that "everything should work as before", for every single player. Thank you for being so honest, take your time. We'll still be here 🙏
This is pretty much a data engineer worst's nightmare hahaha
Dont worry we can wait, and ty for your hard work!

Don't worry. You did so much for us like no other studio did. Thanks and take your time. Stay healthy and safe

No worries, I'll move my PTO around, thanks for the heads up :)
I appreciate open comunication with us, gamers. Many companies should learn from you.
Nah, i'm sad about the delay but I'm happy that you guys are commited to launch an early access in a better state than most releases nowsdays. Keep up the good work.
Take all the time you need! Love how you guys keep up the engagement with the community and keep things authentic. This type of work is f’n complicated and you guys are doing everything in your power to deliver on every front. Start the pre-release when you are proud of the state of the game and we will be ready!
This was the most genuine announcement I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched actors telling stories online, and none of them have been as intense and real as yours. Thank you for the heads-up-no one would want their purchased items to just 'disappear' due to a data import issue.
We all apreciate the transparency and hope everything goes smooth with the databases ! Take all the time needed , we will be here.

Nothing to be sorry about, development estimates are notoriously notorious. This is the reasonable course of action and I appreciate the technical explanation.
Great announcement. The transparency we have come to know and love from GGG. I can't wait for the game, and look forward to seeing what you have accomplished. :)

Maybe give your developers a window? Oh, and their own desk? 🤨
Look at all the positive comments! Not sure I have seen such an amazing response before to disappointing news. It goes to show that transparency in this industry is a strategy that not only works in a studios favour, it harbours a huge amount of loyal fans willing to consume everything you put out. Probably forever.
or maybe its just the poe community has no dignity. right now this news is only seen by the most hardcore poe players. just wait until poe2 hits the mainstream on steam. i have seen games ripped apart for much less (see overwatch2)
They promised that all your cosmetics and stash tabs will transfer over, if they broke that promise the ensuing shitstorm would be similar to that of overwatch 2. And it'd be well deserved.
@@hfweuiofnweuio500 Actual brainrotted blizz shill comment. OW2 was a complete scam. It was supposed to be a completely new experience with a massive PvE mode that was a completely new game added on its own but what was shipped was just OW1 with its player friendly systems completely removed, features entirely removed, and somehow an even worse PvP mode.
People are sick of the fake corporate bullshit and just want honesty. It goes a long way.

Transparency is best Jonathan and team!! Like Gaben said, late is for a little while, suck is forever
Gaben and Miyamoto were always famously quoted for that, but they weren't the ones that came up with it. Someone working at Origin systems originally said it in the 80's.
It still rings true, regardless of who said it first.
This video popped up in my recommended-watches 48 hours prior to Early-Access-launch & I almost died of a coronary
I've been here since almost the first day of the POE 1 closed beta, you've always been very transparent with the players. A real respect which is very rare for a studio which has such a large community of players and this for more than 10 years!! You are once again honoring your passions by being honest and wanting to do well, another studio with a large triple A license would have simply released the game with the bugs. Thank you all this time for offering us a game of this quality. Good luck for the home stretch. We will wait and we will be there on December 6th.
