The story of Buzkashi Boys centers on two best friends-a street brat and a blacksmith’s son-who struggle to reconcile their dreams of playing the sport buzkashi. The film offers a unique glimpse into Afghanistan by way of their friendship, despite the pressures coming from both society and their own impending manhood.
The film is quite a feat, beyond the fact that it's one of the first international productions filmed entirely in Afghanistan, or that nearby rocket attacks almost claimed everyone's lives on set, or that the country is run by probably the most corrupt government in the world. What filmmaker Sam French and his team crafted is a beautiful, timeless, coming-of-age story that happens to revolve around a bloody and brutal goat-murdering horse sport.

His eyes in the end shot said a million words for thousands of children in the same life situation. Excellent short movie with top notch actors ! Much better than countless full length features I have seen . Thank you all for touching my heart. I especially liked and could relate to his father. It is hard knowing that you must prepare your child for the harshness of life...Love comes in many ways...

One of the most astounding, moving and gripping films I have seen so far. Very resonant and dramatic story of friendships that transcend adversity, the relationships between fathers/sons and finding ourselves. Watching this reminds me of "The Kite Runner" to a degree. I also love the message it offers to follow your dreams and not what others want you to. My heart broke so much for Ahmad! The ending is so powerful and left me breathless.

This movie was so shocking for me and , I had never expected a film under 30mn to be so powerful and intensely accurate. Ahmad, the little boy represented glory, just living he made the country lively, plus his individuality was an additional contribution to the nation. His death signifies the loss dreams of a nation.

This was a very touching movie…Life is so hard, imagine living in these conditions and have your dreams taken from you, to be honorable in life. How can a child of 8-12 years old working every day, no schooling and then they are stuck in that Life. Sam French is a very good director. These kid actors were very well oriented…you can feel, you are almost there, peeking at there World. Thank You Vice, another great moment in CINEMA ❤👍😎💙🇺🇦🥲 I give 4/5 stars or 8/10 Congratulations to Mr French.

Rafi and Ahmed reminded my my childhood in Afghanistan and Pakistan. While watching, I really got emotional. It is hard living there at any age. The boy (Rafi) blacksmith son he is not an actor(he acted very well in his first movie) he is just a street boy. The other boy (Ahmad) he is an actor and very talented, but I'm not sure about the blacksmith.
Unfoutunatly Afg has a lot of boys like them who has no hope of becoming something in the future just like them. I left Afg when i was 13 without my parents now i'm 19 studying Art now, my favourite subject and I want to become an Architecte.

@@BezdomniakPL How is it a very dangerous diet? It has been found that vegetarians tend to live longer than meat eaters. It's been found that on average, men who consume little to no meat have an increased lifespan of 7 years, while being 4 years for women. And a cult? Being conscious about your health and the well-being of not only the animals being slaughtered for consumption, but our planet as a whole (the meat industry is responsible for around 14% of pollution, as well as being an innefficient means of food production. It is suspected that if all of the energy going towards producing meat were to go towards producing sustainable plant foods, human starvation would be nonexistant) shouldn't be viewed in such a negative nature. Listen, I am a meat eater as well, but I eat meat in very small portions because I know what the negative effects are. It isn't your place to judge people for doing what they think is right.

I would be proud to have a trade like blacksmithing passed down from my father to me... They spoke of it like it was trash but his father probably worked very hard to have something to pass down for his son. Nothing wrong with wanting something more in life but one should be respectful and grateful of what their parents are giving them.. Then again they are just kids. I'm sure one day he will greatly appreciate all his father did for him.. My dad was never around he left my mom and sister and me as a kid so it kinda struck a chord with me when they spoke about him being a blacksmith like his dad like if it were something horrible. His dad was a bit on the stern and strict side but keep in mind that most of us will never know what it takes to raise a child on the streets of Kabul.

All of the idiotic comments aside this was an excellent movie, definitely a 9 out of 10. There is another excellent movie from Iran that people may like to watch, "The Color of Paradise". That also is a great movie if you can find it with English subs. It's on RUclips if you search out the title, it's well worth watching, it's about a blind boy who is rejected by his father and the indomitable spirit of the little boy, the actor playing the part is a little blind boy and he does a great job for someone who was born blind.

Death scene: cause people falling off a horse are just casually laying there behind a sheet of metal? To be honest, I expected the kid to become a rider and fulfill his dead friend's wish. What was the whole point of leaving if he was going to come back?

This is inspiring. If someone doesn't enjoy go back to doing something else...more productive. Don't be idiotic by complaining of the content. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a home or even food. This displays the suffering of people around the world. Don't be bias because you consider yourself superior.

This is by far the best short film I have ever seen. Still not that great to make a tank cry.

You have to understand the message it is trying to portray. If you just watch it then it might seem pointless, but believe me it is not

Pavel Kamburov I've walked Bob Dylan out on stage, I know the Grateful Dead from 1965, who are YOU! You no talent presumptuous piece of shit! YOU NOTHING! You miserable mediocre nothing!

Billy Baroo So knowing people who are famous automatically makes you famous as well? You are a glorified roadie(if what you say is even true because its fairly easy to make stuff up over the internet) get over yourself. Not to mention VICE is 1.4 billion dollar a year company. Obviously they do good at what they do. From the sounds of it the best thing you've ever done is tell people bob dylan is going to be preforming.
