Second-degree manslaughter in MN is causing someone’s death through culpable negligence, by creating an unreasonable risk and consciously taking chances of causing death or great bodily harm. How can she possibly deny that she’s guilty of this? Mistaking a gun for a taser is obviously negligent.
But confusing a taser for a gun while a suspect is getting in their car and driving away isn't a conscious decision to kill. That is the point that is going to decide this case

Daunte Wright should have been in prison or at least in jail awaiting trial. The man was a menace (and had a warrant out for his arrest). His estate is facing 3 lawsuits from victims of his violent crimes.
They slowed down the body cam video to show the paper she took from him when they were cuffing him, ended up in her right hand. Then the paper went to her left hand, when he got back in the car. Then she grabbed her firearm in her right hand pointing it a Daunte. Isn't the taser on her left side holster?
@patrick collins "but at the time wasn't a threat to the general public." Nooo, driving without licence, smoked like hell, and with warrant... Trying to fle from police... Perfect gentelman! Are you delusional?

You leave the part out where he was a criminal and he tried to run away from cops. I have been stopped by cops many times I am also black never one bad experience.
As a former crime fighter I have always believed in training, training , training. When it hits the fan , your training becomes instinctive. Muscle memory takes over and tools are placed in motion..There is no effin way you could screw this up unless you have not had continuous training..no excuse when lives are in your hands
I would submit this commenter has no significant street cop experience if he ever had any at all. If he did he would realize that no matter how much training you receive, mistakes can still happen. People, even cops, are still human. Especially when officers have to make split second life/death decision in fluid situations. A poor analogy perhaps but they train NFL quarterbacks every day for months on end. They look at film, they practice, they do drills, they throw the football hundreds of times to receivers. Yet NFL quarterbacks still throw interceptions. Why?
This is not an oops. A man is dead because of her actions. As a law enforcement officer you need to be able to tell the difference between your gun and a taser. I fear if she is able to get away with this it opens the door to these so called “incidents” happening more. I will also like to say that the Little House on the Prairie look isn’t fooling anyone.
@Carl Jacobs yes he is a man. A hero?? I think not. She made a fatal “mistake” if that’s what you want to call it. She needs to be held accountable. Shooting someone and tasing someone yields very different results. She’s not fit to be a cop. As a cop you have to make quick decisions and protect the public. She failed. How do you not distinguish between a gun and a taser??

The weight of a taser is different than a gun. Also with so many years on the job this officer couldn't tell the difference, they are bright yellow I believe and for that split second she should have seen/ felt the difference. I guess the jury will sort it out. Just my opinion.
Lawyers used to tell witnesses (mainly, women) NOT to cry on the stand because the jury (mostly, men) saw it as just a tactic to gain sympathy. Now, when it comes to these people killing people of color, this is their preferred tactic.

“I yelled taser taser taser, then nothing happened then they told me I shot him” She takes no responsibility for her actions. She had the gun already in her hand as she was as saying that, how could she have thought it was the taser if she was already holding back. Truth is more simple then they make it, she’s a racist who was pissed that this black kid wasn’t listening to her and rather than let him get away and catch the kid later her pride said “No l’ll just shoot you and win in court later playing the pitiful white woman”
Murder is murder. If a cop does it it’s worse. Why? Cause they took an oath and they betrayed the public confidence in the system when they betray that oath. Cops, unfortunately, have a huge responsibility to uphold. But then again they are given a license to kill so it’s a fair trade off. A police officer that can’t meet those high standards should not be given a badge.
Now the defense is trying to pretend that this was justified even with the screw up. These cops lean on the I was afraid for my fellow officers safety far to much as an excuse.
I Have VERY little Compassion for this Lady. She ended a life, Plain and Simple. Mr. Wright should've and could've been charged for his crimes, not killed for them, that why we have the system we do. Cops ALWAYS expect people to take accountability for the mistakes, Well here it is, OWN up to it. Hmmmm, it sure is Odd how Cops remember exactly what happened and what they thought, when it supports their Point of View or Narrative, yet, "Don't Recall", when it doesn't. That being said, She stated, that she "Saw a fear in her fellow Cops eyes that she had Never seen B4". So, in 26 yrs. she had Never seen a Cop Fear for his Life? Yep, sounds about right. They Just ALWAYS state as Much. Oh, I accidentally shot someone, But, But, I didn't mean to. Am I Free to Go? Nope. Cops Sure do have a Vastly Different Viewpoint, and Outlook, or Understanding, when it is Themselves, or One of their Coworkers, as Opposed to Any other member of Society.
Her story won't stick. Tasers are built with multiple laser sights and also enforcement is taught to back for effective and safe deployment. A seasoned cop would never taser a person in a car while with their foot behind the gas. She wasn't calling for taser she was telling the rookie in training. A seasoned cop has enough muscle memory to go to non-dominant arms. How on earth does she get the soul to say these levels of accidents are acceptable? Amazing!
he has been held accountable🙏🏽He paid the ultimate price for his choice and now she has to be held accountable for her so called mistake.. unfortunately we have to pay for those as well 🙏🏽
My father, being a retired cop, said, and I quote, “Sure, crap happens in the heat of the moment BUT, mistaking a gun for a taser just isn’t one of them”. He said, “It was a warrant, he’s probably been running around with it for a minute or two, I would have “probably” (he said “probably” because he wasn’t there, and its pure speculation) let him drive away for the safety of my fellow officers, as long as he didn’t have a weapon showing, and we would have gotten him on the flip-flop”. I felt her crying was completely fake, I didn’t even see a misty eye. She panicked over a warrant not “the driver” (she couldn’t even say his name) displaying a weapon and to think it all started from a little tree hanging from a mirror of a car. Illegal? Sure, but, it all feels so wrong. That’s just my 2 cents. I just don’t understand how she didn’t know the different weight and feel from taser to gun and all over a tree in the mirror and a warrant. Her lawyer should have had her practice her fake crying because that was some bad acting. She certainly seemed very freaked out at the scene, as seen on the body cam. I am not a cop, I couldn’t be a cop, so it feels wrong even giving my 2 cents but, something just doesn’t feel right. I do believe that accidents happen but, again, something doesn’t feel right. Furthermore, I’m glad I’m not on that jury. God bless them and all involved.

well, a lot of them are. We need better training, like swiss officers, like 2 year training, you have the publics life in your hand and American police are not trained well with respect to mental illness or de-escalation tactics. While yes, hiring process can be selective, its often extremely nepotistic. With 37 states allowing police to work before attending basic training, and an overall basic training at 652 hours which, if 8 hour days, is 81 and a half days, which is only 11.6 weeks, some states requiring 0 field training hours. No wonder we have a ton of cops just shooting people, its in their training, their training literally tells them, that if they seem to be a threat, you can shoot. its even less rigorous than the military regarding citizens. It should require a degree, and more than 12 weeks training to "serve and protect" the public
If the driver would just comply none Of this would have happened.
She accidentally killed a life time criminal
@@Lawlzinator Making a conscious decision to kill is not an element of manslaughter, but consciously taking a chance to kill is. She is trying to downplay her years of training so that she can claim that she was not aware of the risk of death.

That officer made a mistake. Now let's take a look at the 3 lawsuits Wright's estate is facing:
Wright is accused of shooting a former friend in the head, putting him in a vegetative state and effectively ending his life, shooting a man in the leg during a carjacking (hitting an artery and almost killing him), and violently assualting a woman - strangling her and threatening her with a gun - while trying to steal her rent money. The woman and her roommate had allowed Wright and his friend to spend the night when they were unable to get a ride after a party.
The two male victims are both black. The female is identified only as "CV" in court documents.
The world is better off without Daunte Wright in it.
Incompetence, Send her to prison!

Muscle memory takes over and tools are placed in motion..There is no effin way you could screw this up unless you have not had continuous training..no excuse when lives are in your hands
How much experience are we talking about?
I would submit this commenter has no significant street cop experience if he ever had any at all. If he did he would realize that no matter how much training you receive, mistakes can still happen. People, even cops, are still human. Especially when officers have to make split second life/death decision in fluid situations.

There are days that define your story beyond your life.
No wonder we have a ton of cops just shooting people, its in their training, their training literally tells them, that if they seem to be a threat, you can shoot. its even less rigorous than the military regarding citizens.
