I happened to have the strebito 142 piece set bought on Amazon. Used the 4.5mm socket. They have thin metal so no grinding of socket necessary. A little bit of pressure and fit perfectly. And, comes with plastic spudger tools to carefully take case off.
I really enjoyed listening to you do this. I am visually impaired, so I cannot do this by myself. I have one of those record players, and it works well, but it plays slowly. A little bit slowly anyway. It probably needs someone to fix it, and I really enjoyed listening to this video. Thank you for posting it
If you don't have a slot head screw, then the socket you need is a long and skinny 3/16" nut driver. The "WIHA" brand 3/16" nut driver on amazon works and is pretty cheap.
I'm having trouble getting the motor to start. I think it was overwound and when I removed the cabinet there was a distinctive "sproing" sound as if it was relaxing. I cannot get it to re-wind and start the motor. Is there anything I can do?
Hi Phyllis, thanks for watching. Try a 5mm hex driver first. You may find the outside wall of the socket is too thick to fit in the hole and won't fully seat, you may need to grind it thinner
Good lord, I cant get mine apart and now I know why... U had to make your own tool 🤦🏻♀️ Is there any other way to get to them?? Mine is in GREAT shape but isnt spinning much
I think one reason these music boxes have lasted so long and so well it’s because they were swiss and define that quality workmanship today is is not that common
This must be a newer model. Mine says ‘71 on the side (made in Japan) and the screws are flatheads. Can’t get the dial off so I’m wondering if it is supposed to come off on this model!
Well I am happy to see that I am not the reason getting those screws out is so hard but I still haven’t found a solution that works for mine. Going back at it.
I've worked on one of these, one thing to keep in mind is to pre-tension at the bottom range of the limiter mechanism, so fully "unwound" should still have tension on the spring once assembled. Sadly for my one, the plastic gear has a crack in it. It still works but causes a click every time it turns the axel. No idea if there is anyway to deal with that - it seems windup clockwork like this is a thing of the past.
NAPA auto parts sells a "Precision Nut Driver Set" for $1. Largest size in it is 5 mm, part number for the set is #: BK 5751144. 5 mm worked on mine but you do have to apply pressure to stop it from popping off the nut. Penetrating oil definitely helps.
We called those round things, records. 😊 great video. Thanks!

So a 4.5mm socket does the job for sure?
Worked right along with you and got mine working again! Thank you!
Awesome! That's what i like to hear

I’ve always wondered what one of these toys looked like on the inside.
Great skills with love here.
Thanks for the video! I had to take mine apart to clean and couldn’t figure out how to get it back together
Like all the king's horses and all the king's men, they couldn't put Humpty together again!!🤣🤣

Yes, all FP stuff is built to be extra rugged

Interesting! Mine is also 1971 but made in the USA and regrettably does not have flathead screws.
You'll get better performance if you service the 'tone arm' part too. that's where the gunk builds up and adds resistance to the motor.

What would you suggest i do if the motor is working fine, but sound isnt playing. It was before it got sent to me? Thanks
I just bought one for a really good price and she's not workin. This video explains a lot. Cheers.
What was the size of the screw head finally?
Thank you!

3d printing, bro! make a new part from modern materials
J’ai le miens qui tourne au ralenti je ne sais pas si une solution existe pour le retendre
Hi I have the same set and my key is not working. From where can I get the tool to open the box.
You'll need a 4.5mm or 5mm hex socket.
I’m having a problem finding a suitable pre for mine. Suggestions?
You can use a Leather Men Pluers to remove this screws
Or bent nose Pliers
Hey there I’m having the exact same problem and am wondering if I can borrow the hex screw tool you modified? I’ll pay postage of course!
And I need it after ur done!

Thanks a million
Yo tengo una caja igual pero no se como reparar la
Hi just watched your video on the fisher price record player and wondered did it click before you fixed it ? Do you know what the clicking might be ?
There was no clicking, just very sluggish and slow wen wound up. Maybe the gear between the motor and turntable is slipping? Not sure
Mine does the same thing, even after oiling. I'm guessing that's normal,
@@bzb8824 no it shouldn't click thats why i was asking.
I have one that the little needles on the arm are making it sound god aweful
I'll pay you to send me that screwdriver!! I'll send it back!!
