Finally had a chance to try the Canare 4S11s, and I wasn't disappointed. I bought them on faith a little less than a month ago, and I have been rewarded with a journey only an audiophile could love. Slowly but surely the quality, details and richness has emerged. "Yes, cables do matter!!" I was about to spend more than double on a pair Audioquest cables, my go to brand. When I saw Nakamichi on the banana plugs, I knew there was a chance :) Thanks again for doing this!!!!!
Thank you for the informative video. Yes, the Mogami is a good, warm sounding cable --I've used it with various models of Vienna Acoustics (Grand series) with great results. Mine is Mogami 3103 though. I have the 3104 too (bi-wiring the B&W 805). Interesting that the 3104 can also be used as single wire (approx 9 awg vs 12 awg 3103), which probably sounds better/different than the 3103.
Thank you very much for sharing the honest opinion. There are too many reviews that never point out the weakness because they don't want to offend anyone. I couldn't understand why someone said they don't like orange and prefer apple would offend others. People need to take things less personally really.
I managed to order Mogami W3104 from the other side of Europe. I got it yesterday. First imression that it's a very good cable for my system (SMSL VMV D1SE DAC - Kinki Studio EX-M1 - Focal Electra 1038BE). Thanks for the recommendation.
I used to think my SVS ultra cable was amazing, but then i switched back to a generic 12 guage brand(had to move speakers further apart and ultras were not long enough) and I had the same result. Both wires performed the same after switching them. Initially I thought the Svs cable sounded better when i first bought it compared to a "normal" copper cable. This must have been expectation bias since both sound the same after using them for the same amount if time. My go to cable review is ASR's 12 guage cable test which you can find by searching "When 12 Gauge Wire is Not 12 Gauge audio science review"
Exactly my preference. Nothing wrong with pro grade cables. If they do not use more expensive wiring when recording why should I do that when listening?

While i understand the pleasure of building your own cables and all the technical work behind it as much as the love of nice polished engineering. I must say that the impact on the sound as long as your cable doesn't have obvious flaws, is next to 0, and certainly not to the point of being capable of recognizing the cable from listening to music. ( a cable don’t give more or less bass for example ). very respectfully, that's a physics fact mate, sorry. But I am open to argumentation, if you have some counterpoint.
I changed out my stock USB cable with a really nice OCC copper cable. With the stock there was a very slight buzz when i moved the volume knob. With the new cable I don’t hear the buzz anymore. Now don’t you think that effects the audio quality is just some way. Even if you can’t hear it right away. Something minor must have changed just by thinking about what i said prior.
I love the look of your home made Mogami. You did a great job! I use the Nordost Blue Heaven, bought it more as a treat. I did hear a slight bit of improvement on the low end at the dealer’s place. It was very little if any.
So many scientists have proven that there is no audible difference between a normal, not too thick copper cable and all the overpriced exotic cables. It depends on the length of the cables, but for cables of 3-4 m, just buy a normal copper cable and save your money for a nice record player or so. You did the right thing, make cheap cable look expensive and hi-end. Very well done.
I ended up choosing QED speaker cables from the UK. They are affordable and I liked the sound quality compared to others (that costed more). They specialize in cables and they care about sound. I recommend QED. Try them out. Check the reviews.
Aiming to use canare 4s11 ofc version - 4s11g. It is to replace my qed revelation. Last chance stopping me - speak up! QED i've got become to short and it is only 1,5. Simple setup. Marantz 6006 (to be replaced.. marantz 50 amp maybe and some dac..) and matrin logans 60xti. Just want to go back to pure copper heavy cable. Build more scene and fix vocals to get more priority in the sound.
When it comes to budget cables, in my opinion WBC cables from Amazon are currently the very best. They use all the famous brand names we know to make very good and affordable cables. I would recommend anyone who doesn't want to make their own cables to give them a try.
@Chris Richards I don't think anybody has listened to everything that's out there but if you consider the materials used by WBC then they become one or the best option for budget cables. So many people spend fortunes in cables but all the music they play has been recorded using cables from brands that WBC uses. That makes me wonder, what are they really getting with those boutique cables that the recoding studio didn't even care about. Many people, like yourself, go around calling things "junk" and that also makes me wonder.
Yeah, the 1st and by far the most important consideration is simply based on impedance matching. Yep, that generic garden variety principal that governs every interconnection in a signal path. Equipment in/out impedances are so high that signal cable impedance is generally irrelevant, except for passive speakers because the speaker transducers are generally only 2-8 ohms. Impedance matching means that the total connected impedance upstream of the load should be many times less than the load. For this reason alone, the priority is that passive speaker cables need to have very low impedance. How low? Well Alcoholics did some blind listening test and calculations some years ago. The recommendation was that for most people 5% of load is very acceptable. However critical listeners all agree there is an improvement in sound quality down to 2% of load and beyond that is personal preference. There are tables on the internet that tell you what gauge wire you need for a given cable run. I also saw a study that clearly indicates that what is interpreted by some as a more detailed sound with expensive exotic cables is in fact an artifact created by the cables excessive capacitance or inductance. That is, ripple in the wave form that is not part of the original recording. You may like that, which is fine of course but you are likely fooling yourself if you believe this reveals more of the original recording. Pretty much, anything more than ordinary OFC copper is a personal preference, not an absolute. Depends on the listener and the equipment. The vast majority of people do not have Hi-Fi equipment of such a standard that it would make a discernible difference but, if you are not meeting these minimal impedance requirements, it's almost certainly the best bang for buck investment you can ever make in your audio system.
Try the hard to get Canare 4S11G OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper Star Quad), wired in single, which is about 11 gauge. It is better than the regular Canare and I like it better than the Mogami.

I bought Canare 4S11 speaker cables for my system. Very good cable but the bass is very tight. My amplifier has high damping factor at low frequencies so the bass is too quick/thin with Canare. I would need a REL subwoofer with this cable. :) I think the Mogami (smoother mid/high and more bass) will be better for my system.
I agree with that opinion on Canare and bass. It is to short and less resounding. Rest is just too smooth. No opening with sound. I have been listening this cable for over 500h and sound does not change. Probably many users choose Canare for good spatial sound, however for me this cable has less dynamics and the vocals are just too thin. For the price it’s just OK but it’s not a killer. After few weeks I must return to Chord cables and left Canare behind.
The battery operated device on AudioQuest cables suppose to reduce the distortion related to a dielectric absorption in cable insulation which is already extremely low. That's why it's really hard to hear the difference with that device and without it.

Is it possible to run the 4 strand Mogami with positive/negative banana terminals at speaker and twist all 4 strands into one banana at receiver. Then run 1 cable for highs and another for lows? Yep. The audio industry did a really good job of selling people fake magic by convincing consumers they can hear a difference. There is no empirical evidence to back this up. The only people who push this crap are the ones that are trying to sell it to you or the idiots that bought it and need to justify the purchase.

I use DIY quad twisted cables and they do not roll off the highs. The highs are not ear piercing but they are there. imo, those Monster twisted cables you made are nowhere near tight enough. When i did the clockwise twists, I got them as tight as I could. Knowing that when doing the counter clockwise twist the clockwise would loossen up. And I would never spend the kind of cash you spent on some of those cables you showed. There are certainly better ways to spend the money to improve the sound.
All hi-fi systems are not created equal. Some are much more resolving than others. The differences in tone might be subtle, but definitely different. I also understand that in some instances the brain will fill-in the blanks between speaker, interconnect cables and so on. And last but not least, all ears and hearing are not created equal. Just because some of you may not hear any differences between cables, doesn't mean that some of us can't depending on experience, hearing abilities, system resolving power, and the cables you are comparing to each other. Some cables are also extremely close in tonal character, making it harder to discern from one another. So you see, it's not just black in white. Quite a few variables are at play here. Just something for you to ponder on. Peace!
@@Tharbamar after stripping jacket I can insulate with fabric tape to reduce the outer mm size to go through the door card, if so Any suggestion if this will reduce the sound quality while remove the factory black jacket. Or else if possible can you suggest me a 13 or 14 gauge mogami wire.

ugh, this again ? my semi pre conceived idea is that, for short runs like 12 ft per side, 14 ga good copper wire is fine and dandy. by electric requirement, long runs require bigger cable. the connections being key. Especially for ' normal ' setups that is average folks that don't spend $ 10 thou. on a stereo. Not that there is anything wrong with that. guys buy $ 15 thou bass boats, $ 15 thou motorcycles ( heck, even BICYCLES ) so why not $ 15 thou entertainment system if that's your interest.......
Rick C When you have a ‘cheap’ system you should not invest in expensive cables. Your ‘guidelines’ are sensible for that situation. However, in a ‘serious’ system (revealing, dynamic, low noise floor...etc) you will hear differences between cables.

Copper has all kind of different levels of purity so no, copper is not just copper. And copper is not the only metal used in cables. Resistance is important, maybe even the most important thing. Thinking that it is the only thing to consider is very ignorant as there are many factors that define the end result. Shielding can reduce RFI for example so no, there is no such thing as only ‘the most important factor’. And what most people like you forget, but is explained clearly in this video, is that you do not listen to the cable. You are listening to a system. A cable on itself makes no sound. That is why cables can sound different in different systems. He clearly states that this is what works for him, in his system. The cheap wire inside many loudspeakers is most of the time a commercial decision (cheap). Not a quality decision. My loudspeakers come (stock) with silver cable inside and many high end manufacturers do this. They understand it does make a difference. They can hear it. Many DIY enthusiasts will use more serious cables in their designs. Even though cost is a major driver for DIYers. But they will pay more because they can hear the difference. Many people change the cables inside their loudspeakers after buying. They know it makes a difference. They can hear it. So no, not all loudspeakers manufactures will take the cheap route because it wouldn’t make a difference. It does. But you need the gear to benefit from these differences. Denying that people can’t register differences is very narrow minded in my opinion.
It's a real shame that Mogami and Canare are virtually impossible to get in the UK. And shipping from the US is almost as expensive as the cables themselves. So I don't really fancy paying £100 for £55 cables.

Depends, the Emotiva has more channel options and the promise of Dirac at some point (albeit they have been saying this for quite a while) it is potentailly more future proof. The 8805 has a fixed number of channels and is a quite a bit less expencive. Overall the Emotiva sounds slightly better if setup correctly. Personally I would go for the 8802a save a small fortune and wait for Emotiva to sort themselves out or get an Arcam better than both the ones you have mentioned and about the same cost.
I got the Canare 4S11 cables but it's 14AWG each strand, it's a bit low and the resistance might be high. does twisting a pair together at each ends really reduce the resistance and make it at least 10 AWG?
Thick enoguh Oxygen Free Copper, end of discussion. Nothing fancy needed. Silver-solder if you want corrosion resistant connectors. Why don't you change the internal wire in the speaker if you "hear" a difference? Because its 100% normal OFC straight cable internally. As you show in your reviews. CCA = Copper clad aluminium is the cable you dislike.
I totally forgot about this. Your right. For any body who has advised people to buy "premium" audio cables , i think they forget the wires inside the the speaker are usually the same quality as a generic Coleman wire(which is not bad)

I have not heard Diamond 11.2 in my system yet, 225 is very good speakers with nice bass response, Denton 80th is a little better with less bass compared to 225.
I am using 4S8. If you visit Canare's website, 4s8 is their best selling and best cable according to themselves. There is a chart showing 4s8 has a more accurate frequency response than 4s11 and 4s6. 4s11 is better for long run though.
You can spend quite a bit on an ethernet cable. However, you would be dumb to do so. Ethernet cable transmits data, 0s and 1s. Audiophile cable manufactures will also sell you high end" USB cables, again, a waste of money. A good well built ethernet cable is all you need. Ethernet cable is also known as CAT5, CAT6, CAT7 and even CAT8. You are concerned with frequency and speed. The best CAT cables for audio are the gaming cables that give you high bandwidth and speeds up to 10 Gpbs. CAT 7 is preferred. So, a quick recommendation would be the JCAT Signature LAN for $1000.00. Thanks for the video. You're always playing with fire when talking about cables, but you know that the people that matter are the ones who know what you're talking about. I can't afford any cables right now, I have to use main line power cables (combination of single core and copper strand), but they beat out the cheap speaker cables I was using before. I'll definitely be investing in better cables soon though. :)
If a European wants to buy a Mogami 3104 cable, this can only be obtained at very high prices. I live in the heart of Europe. In France they are offered at € 19.90 per meter. Very expensive if you want to achieve a High-end Dolby Atmos installation with these cables. If I ordered the cables in the USA, I have to pay such high tax and import costs that I get an even higher price per meter. Does anyone have a good tip where as a European I can get this Mogawi 3104 cable at a good price? Or someone who can buy it outside the EU and resell it to me?
I recommend a roll of Coleman OR Belden 12 awg cable. You cannot go wrong with that. Much cheaper and you can customize it with different plugs, sleeves etc. Also It has been TESTED objectively to perform the a great job of delivering electricity to speaker without any loss in quality(meaning it will compare with even the most expensive cables if you take plocebo/expectation bias out of the equation).

It's a bit harsh and arrogant about the speakers you disliked I don't know what they sound like but to some people you have to take consideration of their equipment their run, and what they like the rooms surroundings. don't be so critical in a different situation they could sound different, just like your cables. What is the damping factor of the cable and capacitance do you know? If you're going to do a test cables you need to have the same gauge and the same length at least otherwise you're going to get different results. Even buy the the same manufacturer
Speakers it self was ok, not as ground breaking as some reviewers claimed to be or most accurate sounding and I was a bit upset by use of the cheap drivers in there, many other internet direct speaker companies uses much better quality drivers for about the same price. I also saw a study that clearly indicates that what is interpreted by some as a more detailed sound with expensive exotic cables is in fact an artifact created by the cables excessive capacitance or inductance. That is, ripple in the wave form that is not part of the original recording. You may like that, which is fine of course but you are likely fooling yourself if you believe this reveals more of the original recording.
Pretty much, anything more than ordinary OFC copper is a personal preference, not an absolute. Depends on the listener and the equipment. The vast majority of people do not have Hi-Fi equipment of such a standard that it would make a discernible difference but, if you are not meeting these minimal impedance requirements, it's almost certainly the best bang for buck investment you can ever make in your audio system.
Try the hard to get Canare 4S11G OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper Star Quad), wired in single, which is about 11 gauge. It is better than the regular Canare and I like it better than the Mogami.
Yes I have 4 cables full star quad setup run in stereo mode but this is my new favorite.

I bought Canare 4S11 speaker cables for my system. Very good cable but the bass is very tight. My amplifier has high damping factor at low frequencies so the bass is too quick/thin with Canare. I would need a REL subwoofer with this cable. :)
I think the Mogami (smoother mid/high and more bass) will be better for my system.
I agree with that opinion on Canare and bass. It is to short and less resounding. Rest is just too smooth. No opening with sound. I have been listening this cable for over 500h and sound does not change. Probably many users choose Canare for good spatial sound, however for me this cable has less dynamics and the vocals are just too thin. For the price it’s just OK but it’s not a killer. After few weeks I must return to Chord cables and left Canare behind.

The battery operated device on AudioQuest cables suppose to reduce the distortion related to a dielectric absorption in cable insulation which is already extremely low. That's why it's really hard to hear the difference with that device and without it.

I use DIY quad twisted cables and they do not roll off the highs. The highs are not ear piercing but they are there.
imo, those Monster twisted cables you made are nowhere near tight enough. When i did the clockwise twists, I got them as tight as I could. Knowing that when doing the counter clockwise twist the clockwise would loossen up. And I would never spend the kind of cash you spent on some of those cables you showed. There are certainly better ways to spend the money to improve the sound.
Have you ever tried Viablue sc-4 speaker cable? I'd try Mogami w3104 or Viablue sc-4 speaker cable in my system.

All hi-fi systems are not created equal. Some are much more resolving than others. The differences in tone might be subtle, but definitely different. I also understand that in some instances the brain will fill-in the blanks between speaker, interconnect cables and so on. And last but not least, all ears and hearing are not created equal. Just because some of you may not hear any differences between cables, doesn't mean that some of us can't depending on experience, hearing abilities, system resolving power, and the cables you are comparing to each other. Some cables are also extremely close in tonal character, making it harder to discern from one another. So you see, it's not just black in white. Quite a few variables are at play here. Just something for you to ponder on.

ugh, this again ? my semi pre conceived idea is that, for short runs like 12 ft per side, 14 ga good copper wire is fine and dandy. by electric requirement, long runs require bigger cable. the connections being key. Rick C When you have a ‘cheap’ system you should not invest in expensive cables. Your ‘guidelines’ are sensible for that situation. However, in a ‘serious’ system (revealing, dynamic, low noise floor...etc) you will hear differences between cables.

Copper has all kind of different levels of purity so no, copper is not just copper. And copper is not the only metal used in cables.
Resistance is important, maybe even the most important thing. Thinking that it is the only thing to consider is very ignorant as there are many factors that define the end result. Shielding can reduce RFI for example so no, there is no such thing as only ‘the most important factor’.
And what most people like you forget, but is explained clearly in this video, is that you do not listen to the cable. You are listening to a system. A cable on itself makes no sound. That is why cables can sound different in different systems. He clearly states that this is what works for him, in his system.
The cheap wire inside many loudspeakers is most of the time a commercial decision (cheap). Not a quality decision. My loudspeakers come (stock) with silver cable inside and many high end manufacturers do this. They understand it does make a difference. They can hear it.
Many DIY enthusiasts will use more serious cables in their designs. Even though cost is a major driver for DIYers. But they will pay more because they can hear the difference.
Many people change the cables inside their loudspeakers after buying. They know it makes a difference. They can hear it.
So no, not all loudspeakers manufactures will take the cheap route because it wouldn’t make a difference. It does. But you need the gear to benefit from these differences. Denying that people can’t register differences is very narrow minded in my opinion.
It's a real shame that Mogami and Canare are virtually impossible to get in the UK. And shipping from the US is almost as expensive as the cables themselves.

Depends, the Emotiva has more channel options and the promise of Dirac at some point (albeit they have been saying this for quite a while) it is potentailly more future proof. The 8805 has a fixed number of channels and is a quite a bit less expencive. Overall the Emotiva sounds slightly better if setup correctly. Personally I would go for the 8802a save a small fortune and wait for Emotiva to sort themselves out or get an Arcam better than both the ones you have mentioned and about the same cost.
I got the Canare 4S11 cables but it's 14AWG each strand, it's a bit low and the resistance might be high. does twisting a pair together at each ends really reduce the resistance and make it at least 10 AWG?
I'll save you time and money, buy the cheapest cables that are the right gauge and you will be fine. Don't buy fancy cables it's a waste of your money

Why don't you change the internal wire in the speaker if you "hear" a difference? Because its 100% normal OFC straight cable internally. As you show in your reviews.

I have not heard Diamond 11.2 in my system yet, 225 is very good speakers with nice bass response, Denton 80th is a little better with less bass compared to 225.

I am using 4S8. If you visit Canare's website, 4s8 is their best selling and best cable according to themselves. There is a chart showing 4s8 has a more accurate frequency response than 4s11 and 4s6. 4s11 is better for long run though.

I can't afford any cables right now, I have to use main line power cables (combination of single core and copper strand), but they beat out the cheap speaker cables I was using before. I recommend a roll of Coleman OR Belden 12 awg cable. You cannot go wrong with that. Much cheaper and you can customize it with different plugs, sleeves etc. Also It has been TESTED objectively to perform the a great job of delivering electricity to speaker without any loss in quality(meaning it will compare with even the most expensive cables if you take plocebo/expectation bias out of the equation).

It's a bit harsh and arrogant about the speakers you disliked I don't know what they sound like but to some people you have to take consideration of their equipment their run, and what they like the rooms surroundings. don't be so critical in a different situation they could sound different, just like your cables. What is the damping factor of the cable and capacitance do you know? If you're going to do a test cables you need to have the same gauge and the same length at least otherwise you're going to get different results.

Speakers it self was ok, not as ground breaking as some reviewers claimed to be or most accurate sounding and I was a bit upset by use of the cheap drivers in there, many other internet direct speaker companies uses much better quality drivers for about the same price.
