I made a 3.5m pair of cables for the front speakers in my home cinema system over the weekend using Canare 4S11 following this guide. The new cables replaced some relatively cheap bi-amp cables I'd had for several years so I made them up with 4 banana plugs at each end. The difference in sound quality is amazing - it's the closest I've heard to hifi sound from an AV amp and the cables aren't even run in yet. I'll definitely be making up a couple of sets of RCA cables using info from your other guides, so thanks!
I was inspired by your Mogami diy speaker cable video to make my own speaker cables to replace Audioquest Rocket 88 cables. @@Tharbamar I completed making these cables and thank you for inspiring me with your video. This savings along with the time spent making them was pure fun!
Your first video inspired me to go on a cable build, I originally had Mogami 3104s that I bought from a company that builds and sells them. I decided to give 4S11s a try instead. The Canares felt a bit more well rounded, bass was more defined, but I did find them to be a little more closed in and lacking that sparkle that the 3104s had. The major drawback with the 3104s, something that you've mentioned is the bass. The bass was real boomy and I found myself going back to the Canares for that reason. I read/heard some interesting information on the mogami 3103s as being more defined in bass but still having the same sonic signature as the 3104s. It didn't make any sense to me since it's the same cable as the 3104s just 50% less of it. Sure enough, using the same terminations as the Canares, I ran them with my system and the bass boominess was gone. The bass and overall presentation was like the Canares but more extended - it seemed like a sweet spot between the 4S11s and 3104s. I would encourage you to try them out, you might be surprised by the result.

After struggling to tame brightness with the B&Ws I didn't expect to missing the top end extension, but fortunately with the x18s and 3103s I'm getting the best of both worlds. Good luck!

I think somebody F@cked up and trying to recover from their mistake with an excuse. I'm pretty sure Tharbamar never mentioned that there was no difference in sound in previous videos. If Canare says do it a certain way why would an "audiophile" do it differently... just saying
@@luislunacortez1929 I know, I watched the whole video. I specifically was talking about his previous videos on making wires... but by that time he realized the mistake after this video was made he didn't want to redo the whole video and wires, that's why he put the banner on the video edited in post saying what he said. excellent video and choice. everyone should really at least have a pair of this cable. despite long burn in.. it makes music sounds like music and only a few cable does that
At 14:14 in your video, does both screws make contact with the bare wire? You should also let your viewers know that if you intend to bi-wire, the 2 reds need to be together (+) and the 2 whites (-) together as well - at both ends of the cable. Thanks.
Nice job on the cables...don't know if sound demo really does much as it only demos sound quality of the device the person is watching the video on... nice set up though... cheers 😎👍
One thing I keep thinking about- how would the screw-on banana plug collars add resistance to the cable? It doesn't make sense but I'm certainly open to the fact that I'm totally missing something
Congrats on another great video. Just wondering why no one has mentioned the Canare 4S11 and it’s much better PE insulation around the conductors themselves (which add to a better sound) with PVC as the outer jacket. The Mogami cables have PVC as insulation on the wire and also the outer jacket which is a lower grade speaker cable for that matter. It’s all about the insulation around the speaker, conductors themselves.
Great work my brother from another country! What size shrink wrap goes over the banana plug? BTW - your DYI tutorials are excellent. Please do more. What is the national dish of your country? Adobo?
Bonjour, Merci pour cette vidéo intéressante. Quel modèle je dois utiliser pour mes Focal aria 926 : Canare 4S8 ou canare 4S11 La longueur du câble est de 1.75 mètre
I used viborg bananas (rhodium version) on duelund cable. When I took them off and tied the bare wire the sound quality improved drastically. It's like someone took off 10 curtains.
I was wondering is soldering better than those screw down terminals? I would think that the high heat from soldering could possibly damage the copper cable so maybe the terminals would be better.
Raw is in theory best but you can short out your amp if you cross wires...... I don't mind with my gear. But if you have expensive gear.....Probably best to keep those connections clean as you can.
My 3/4" heat shrink I bought from the link is way larger than what you have there. I need to order a different size. (1/2") Edit: I went for it. Need cables now. It does work, but after all the heat, I melted the mylar. My favorite part has been the most trouble. You might want to correct your link, and warn of not only melting mylar, but it frays if you don't know what your doing, putting it on. I figured it out, but as they say...practice first. I didn't.
Excellent video! To my surprise I see you using jumper plates between your binding posts. Haven't seen one person say to use those, usually it's"never use them" and use wire jumpers or bi-wire. Did those come stock with the speakers or are those a specialty purchase? Keep up the good work!
hey Thomas...please tell me the best wire to use for REL High Level...REL 3 Wire Sub Speaker Cable, Neutrik Speakon...I respect your selection...I'm waiting on some locking banana plugs for my Canare 4S11g to complete my mains cables...like you suggested😁
If you would choose the highest quality/signal possible, would you say the canare 4S11(G) or the Mogami W3104. Some say solidcore copper is better like audioquest is saying, what is your opinion about that?
@@Tharbamar so you had a better experience with mogami then audioquest I guess. Tried audioquest rocket 88, but thought it calmed the sound and lost details in the music
Thanks a lot for sharing this with us, this is such a money saver! Can you also recommend a good quality cable for subwoofers? Can I use this? Big thanks in advance!
Hello, the Canare 4S11 on the video is a quad star cable construction if I understand correctly. When making the cable, why did you connect adjacent wires, i.e. red and white for one pole, instead of connecting red and light red for the + pole and white and light white for the minus pole? Isn't that the wrong connection for the quad star cable construction? With the connection 1-3 and 2-4, the property of the EMI /RF protection construction and the advantage of the quad star construction is not lost if I understand correctly. Can you explain to me if I made a mistake somewhere or if misunderstood cable manufacturer ? I can confirm that on my system the quad star connection 1-3 and 2-4 sounds totally different (dynamic, spacious, richer) than the 1-2 and 3-4 connections. Thank you
Hi, thanks for the comment, I’ve been using 4S11 cable for almost 20 years, it doesn’t matter how you connect them there is no difference in sound quality, I have shared and shown to many audio people with blind demos and no one has ever heard the differences, thanks
Thanks for the prompt reply. I try all the combinations and each one gives me a different result. Yes, the combination of 1-2 and 3-4 is somehow calmer, star quad 1-3, 2-4 is dynamic and powerful, wider space, and bi wiring is some kind direct. Therefore, different connections give different capacitance according to the manufacturer's website. It is NOT possible to get the same sound in every connection.. Also, if the cables are not connected in a star quad scheme, then the EMI / RF protection does not work if that means the same to you. Either way for some reason you don't hear the difference or I have a problem in my system that causes the sound to change. My speakers are Canton ERGO 695DC 2x300W at 4ohm. and Primare I35 Prisma. Do you have any advice? @@Tharbamar
Thanks. Currently building my own with your step by step explanation. Question: why did you put the white-red + pink-clear, and not red-pink, white clear? Any specific reason?
sorry for noob question.. if i dont screw back the banana plug covers (i.e. closed screw exposed like in this video, but without the shrink wrap) will it conduct electricity and can it be an electric hazard? i feel that when i put the covers the sound is abit muffled, maybe my imagination, maybe the wire is slightly touching the covers, idk... i prefer to leave them uncovered.
hello i am watching your videos with your liking i need your speaker wiring advice Are soft balanced musical vocals suitable for canere 4s11 for clear clean presentation or would you recommend another cable stay healthy
i don't get it. He twists a red and white together, so how do you identify that exact par at the other end? Why not combine whites together as well as the reds? You'd have to do that if making a bi-wire set, no?
Sir, do you feel the alligator teeth type pins you’ve used here would offer a noticibly better sound than spades and would it be wise to use the same Canare cable to build or buy RCA interconnects? Thank you very much
BFA type banana plugs are very good with many type of components, spades are ok they tend to get loose with weak terminals, sound quality is no difference in type of connection, as long as you use pure copper of gold plated copper plugs, thanks
@tharbamar excellent videos on making your own speaker and RCA cables.....keep up the amazing videos. QUESTION: seems like the Viborg Plugs are no longer available, **What other plugs would you recommend and share the link? and are there any 90-degree plugs you recommend for behind the amp inside a cabinet?
What is best ? Single wire og biwire ? I use my Canare 4S11 as biwire direct in therminals on my Yamaha AS590 amp and B&W 683 speakers. But is single wire better ?

Yes I did notice that, this is my more than 10th pair of 4S11 speaker cables I made, I tried different paring and there is no difference in sound, happy new year!
@@Tharbamar ok Happy New Year
I think somebody F@cked up and trying to recover from their mistake with an excuse. I'm pretty sure Tharbamar never mentioned that there was no difference in sound in previous videos. If Canare says do it a certain way why would an "audiophile" do it differently... just saying
@@pagepro211 if you see the video there are post over the video saying that.
@@luislunacortez1929 I know, I watched the whole video. I specifically was talking about his previous videos on making wires... but by that time he realized the mistake after this video was made he didn't want to redo the whole video and wires, that's why he put the banner on the video edited in post saying what he said.
The previous videos of him making wires NEVER said Canare suggest to do it a certain way which is the right way. Thank God you gave us the right info. How can I honestly trust his reviews on speakers/amps, etc anything in his home audio, even the sound sample at the end of these videos, if his wiring is off and he knows it's off but doesn't think it matters. I read the video banner but didn't think much of it BUT after you made it clear that what he did was flawed then I really understood what was going on.. kudos to you.
Love that shimmering techflex, can't find it anywhere. The hollow plugs are interesting looking too.
Links in video description for it, thanks
@@Tharbamar That links to silver, looks very different.....I bought a bunch on ebay that looks like it might be similar, just waiting on shipping. :)
Nice intro buddy! kinda made my day! Good heart and i subscribed instantly. Thanks for the great DIY video!
Thanks for the sub!
Your video was inspiration for me and I also assembled this cable. Thank you!
Watched almost all your video and learned lots of professional acknowledgment from you! Love your video and just bought SX11 too! Hope I can get the cable as I need it to plug into SX11 and Quad S2! I am happy to pay for the Fedex or DHL courier! I am in Singapore! Thanks lot!
Happy new year! Thank you very much for another interesting and entertaining "how to" video. You did animate me with all your videos to start to make my own cables, too.
Happy new year 2021 to you and your family , thanks for the blessing.
Happy new year!
Happy new year buddy. Many many more!
Happy new year!
@@Tharbamar thank you! Your videos are the best, and have served me great in my DIY cables 😎
Have you looked at Gr Research tube connectors? Very similar to your ends on the cable but does not use the standard 5 way binding posts on the speaker. Uses a very simple interface at the speaker.
I will check them out in the future, Thanks
Awesome Builds, thanks for Sharing. I've always thought to Build my Own Speaker cable, saving me Thousands, your Video's help us out, not so Hard After All. I'm still Learning my Yamaha RX- A2030 the Reason I bought this, was I still have S-Video Connections in my system. I have a Laser Player, yep the old Digital Movie format that Started it all , I haven't thrown out any of those Movie's and my Super VHS Player, yep still have and the movies to go along with. I wish these Stereo Component companies didn't throw away these connections, they did, making us buy New Equipment and making us consider throwing out our old movies. I also still have my tape recorder, excellent Reviews, a pretty nice recorder. Your System is pretty impressive the Cable's sounded really good, thanks for sharing
Good afternoon and Happy New Year from Singapore
Happy New Year.
excellent video and choice. everyone should really at least have a pair of this cable. despite long burn in.. it makes music sounds like music and only a few cable does that
At 14:14 in your video, does both screws make contact with the bare wire? You should also let your viewers know that if you intend to bi-wire, the 2 reds need to be together (+) and the 2 whites (-) together as well - at both ends of the cable. Thanks.
Happy new year.... great work there. You just sawed me couple of bucks cause i wanted to order Mogami 3103 and this one is much affordable 👍
Happy new year!
Nice job on the cables...don't know if sound demo really does much as it only demos sound quality of the device the person is watching the video on... nice set up though... cheers 😎👍
Do you have video on how to make bi-wire with Mogami 3104
Sorry I do not have one for Bi-wire cable.
Adobo?
Thanks, how to do for the bi-wiring. Could you do the video for the bi-wiring speaker cable?
it's simple you just have to connects 4 plugs on each conductors on speaker end.
Bonjour,
Merci pour cette vidéo intéressante.
Quel modèle je dois utiliser pour mes Focal aria 926 :
Canare 4S8 ou canare 4S11
La longueur du câble est de 1.75 mètre
Hi I will have to choose 4S11 personal, thanks
Thanks for posting this video nice work...was on amazon right away get the parts needed to make my own...thank you...🥇⭐️
I used viborg bananas (rhodium version) on duelund cable.

Hello If there is no mogami speaker cable, do you think I should buy a canare s411 cable can you help me
Canare 4S11 almost as good, I alsoI made a DIY video of it here, ruclips.net/video/snLExbyIJto/видео.html
I didn't.
I have the Canare 4S11 cable bi wired to my speakers. I agree that it is an excellent speaker cable.
Hello Thanks for your videos. I tried your Diy budget Mogami. I'm satisfied. My question is what is better Canare or Mogami?
I use all of them depending on what I’m paring with, so far W3082 is my favorite of all, thanks
Thanks for putting links to everything
Can anyone explain without being too technical, if this cable sounds better than generic 10 awg ofc copper & why that might be?
New subscriber here. I just wanted to say hello and I'm looking forward to seeing your videos. Thanks for your efforts!
Can you do a 10gauge 4 wire conductor for a speakon connector please
I learned a lot from your videos about speaker cables... how about the 4S12F ? what's the difference from 4s11? Thank you.
4s12F is for in-wall use, thanks
, I thought it can also be use for this kind of audio set up. Thanks much Sir. 👍😊
Your audio recording equipment sounds fabulous. As opposed to using Mylar or Nylon when joining the conductors, can you not use heat shrink tubing?
Yes you could.
Canare cables are common in the audio and video industry. Netflix uses Canare cables behind the scenes. High quality cables
im always a fan of biwiring . can i do biwiring with canare 4s11 ? whats your advice. ty
Yes definitely, thanks
Happy nes Year for you and your family too.
Thanks so much
I'm wondering exactly how your cables burn in? Do they burn the snake oil off? Or does it get absorbed during the burning process??
Excellent video! To my surprise I see you using jumper plates between your binding posts. Haven't seen one person say to use those, usually it's"never use them" and use wire jumpers or bi-wire. Did those come stock with the speakers or are those a specialty purchase? Keep up the good work!
Great guide as always. Thank you!
hey Thomas...please tell me the best wire to use for REL High Level...REL 3 Wire Sub Speaker Cable, Neutrik Speakon...I respect your selection...I'm waiting on some locking banana plugs for my Canare 4S11g to complete my mains cables...like you suggested😁
At the end of the video when you say not burnt in what are you referring to?
Cables need to be settled in, that’s what I meant.
@@Tharbamar in what way?
You may have said it in the video, but missed it. What gauge do you get by doing that method?
Each conductor is 14 AWG so it should be 11 AWG for two combined.
If you would choose the highest quality/signal possible, would you say the canare 4S11(G) or the Mogami W3104. Some say solidcore copper is better like audioquest is saying, what is your opinion about that?
4-5 years ago I replaced Audioqest Gibraltar with Mogami W3104 and 9802 never looked back.
@@Tharbamar so you had a better experience with mogami then audioquest I guess. Tried audioquest rocket 88, but thought it calmed the sound and lost details in the music
Do Carare 4S11 Cable directional. If firectional how to know which direction to where. Thank you
Thanks for the video...i just ordered the Canare 4S11 ofc wire...do you think it's necessary to put the sheathing over the wire...?
Sheeting is optional, just for protection from cut opening the rubber jacket, thanks
@@Tharbamar
How does burn in make them sound better?
What do you mean by speaker cable not burn in yet? Is there any difference in sound whether a cable has been burned in or not?
It will be a bit more clearer after burn in.
BONNE ANNÉE 2021 SUPERBE VIDÉO MERCI BEAUCOUP
BONNE ANNÉE
Thanks! I used your original video to make my own cables!
Great!
Hi, do you have a sample clip using canare vs mogami with same track?
Do you need to solder two cores together before you put them in banana plugs? Does oxidation may affect sound quality?
No because I sealed it.
Thanks. Currently building my own with your step by step explanation. Question: why did you put the white-red + pink-clear, and not red-pink, white clear? Any specific reason?
I just like to use it that way but there won’t be different in sound either way.
@@Tharbamar thank, really appreciate. BTW, thanks for all the good video that you have done. Really appreciate it
sorry for noob question.. if i dont screw back the banana plug covers (i.e. closed screw exposed like in this video, but without the shrink wrap) will it conduct electricity and can it be an electric hazard?
i feel that when i put the covers the sound is abit muffled, maybe my imagination, maybe the wire is slightly touching the covers, idk... i prefer to leave them uncovered.
It’ll be fine If they are not touching when amp is active.
@@Tharbamar "they" as in black and red plug? if i touch the plug while amp is on, will i get zapped? :D
hello i am watching your videos with your liking i need your speaker wiring advice Are soft balanced musical vocals suitable for canere 4s11 for clear clean presentation or would you recommend another cable stay healthy
i don't get it. He twists a red and white together, so how do you identify that exact par at the other end? Why not combine whites together as well as the reds? You'd have to do that if making a bi-wire set, no?
Actually semi transparent, white, pinkish red and red, it won’t be mistaken but you can pair them as you wish.
What wire would you use to make your own bi-wire speaker cable?
I would use Canare 4S11 or Mogami W3145.
Why you are not using speaker wire pants? They look great!
I'm not a fan of Y pants, thanks
Hi. Which wires of the cable should be bi-wired together?
Any of them as long you connect same wires on both sides.
@@Tharbamar Thanks for the answer. I've been watching your reviews recently and I really like them. Keep it up. Regards.
Love the video, thanks and Happy New Year!
Same to you!
I have shielded chord clearway, what should i do with the foil shield?
Hi, I have no experience of using 90 degree plugs, you can get Viborg plugs here. Thanks

What is best ? Single wire og biwire ? I use my Canare 4S11 as biwire direct in therminals on my Yamaha AS590 amp and B&W 683 speakers. But is single wire better ?
