But you can't do a partial replacement, you have to replace all doors and windows. For our home that would be over $45K. I don't have $45K and then you submit your final receipts for reimbursement.
It seems it's an "all or nothing" program, which keeps lower income homeowners from being able to participate. We thought about applying for the grant, but we can't afford to do everything that is required. The requirements are just cost prohibitive. So we're limited to doing improvements as our budget allows, which in this economy is about one smaller project each year.
that's why I am scarred,We fell into moderate because my husband had to start his SS so he can retire in a few months. if it dont work for us, we will have to use a few credit cards to get our roof done, and if they don't approve it, we would have to sell our home to pay off the credit card debt.
None of that matter if they want you to do 30 to 40 thousand dollars worth of work on your home and upay it up front just to be denied that money or most of it is probably lining someones pickets

I got my funds, it works. I worried about the same issue because every opening was upgraded except my front door. First off you can get reimbursed even if you dont get an insurance discount. They want proof from your insurance that you informed them of the upgrades and show if you "qualify" for a discount. I gave my insurance the wind mitigation report after work completed and they gave my an updated policy declaration. 2nd I got lucky and was informed installing a hurricane shutter on my front door would resolve the issue of protecting all openings so I did get an insurance discount which made things easier but think would have still went well. 3rd the reason they want every opening secure is because homes aren't meant to have strong winds inside of them but if your existing doors and windows are not only storm but have a certain impact rating you dont need to change and should get your wind mitigation inspector to note it all. I'm so sorry for this novel but if someone can get their money back that's what it's all about

The program will fund the upgrade of windows and doors to a storm rated versions to help protect against weather and in theory will reduce the chance of major damage. So if you already have hurricane protection covering your outdated openings unfortunately it is considered protected so the program won't approve. People should verify if they meet the criteria. My info was only from personal experience and bothering lots of people with questions every step of the way but not an expert by any means

Imagine having enough money to pay off a $37k home equity loan for all new doors & windows in "maybe 10 months".
