I like how the movie rewrote the dad tbh. In the books, the dad is very bland and kind of there, but in the movies he's got way more personality, he and Greg have better father-son chemistry, and the actor is someone I like tbh. The fanbase for the book series is very... Diverse. Seriously there's a subreddit for fanfics for DOAWK and so many of them are weird.
I don't know if Nate mentioned this or not but there's actually a fifth movie but it's animated because the fourth one did bad so Disney decided to just reboot the series but animated
That's quite the surprise to hear. I knew that they got a new VA for Tighnari, but I never knew that Zachery was the replacement. Pretty cool to know.😊
I have to say, I'm personally surprised he didn't like Rodrick. In his Home Alone 2 review, he praised Kevin's older brother Buzz for learning how to manipulate and talk his way out of things. I feel that Rodrick is basically an evolved version of that character type. But then again, this is the first film and not Rodrick Rules so maybe his opinion will change once he watches the sequel.
As someone who has read the entire Wimpy Kid book series, Greg is supposed to be unlikeable, it's a mean spirited book series, and in my opinion these movies (except The Long Haul) pretty much captures how the books were portrayed as mean spirited as possible to make it entertaining, which explains why these movies weren't that well received by critics which is understandable because that's how the books were, just weird and mean spirited with an unlikeable main character.
Loved the guy who played Roderick in this since he was great in saw 6. We all eventually got a rowly spin off but it never became a movie. I loved Steve Zahn in Rescue Dawn.
Honestly Greg is far less likable in the books, he gets rewarded for him telling Rowley he got the kids trapped when his mom, not knowing the context, takes him for a milkshake, and Rowley doesn't even confront him directly, he just sulks home angrily and tells the Patrol chief off page.
I remember when the new actor for Rodrick, he looked like he'd be in the emo/gotg kids group, but he's the one who wears the least makeup lol. Also the movies are straight ip nostalgia for me.
The mean spiritedness of the movie has no point(Greg doesn't learn/attone/change for anything, he doesn't suffer any long lasting consequences, it doesn't say anything about the search for fame). Maybe the book executed this element better. But he's reviewing the movie not the book. If you need to read the book to get the movie, every movie ticket must come with a copy of the book. Like in the original Dune movie, where they left instruction on the story on every theater seat so that the audience can reference, if they have question
We watched this in class in middle school one day, and the vice principal and dean walked and we had to pause on Greg sleeping in his underwear. One of them comment "we're coming in at not the best image" then they tell us that our art teacher died.
I was a huge fan of the movie and the books as a kid as they were the only books I read on my own free will as a kid and something not forced to read by teachers. Everyone I knew read the books and watched the movies. I remember kids doing the cheese touch thing and took it seriously
Definitely one of Doug's worst modern reviews. Not liking the movie or reading the book is one thing, but he thought Greg was supposed to be a sympathetic character we root for (he's not) Just Stop's video about the movies is much better.
I remember Movie Gallery. I liked seeing all the cover art for the horror films they had. Nowadays it’s half a Version store half a tax services provider.
I never saw the fourth film (and still won't.) But I did watch the disney+ movies and cabin fever was the best of the three. That said the first diary of a wimpy kid book I've got was the diary of a wimpy kid movie diary that was about the development of the first film. Edit: 28:38 he was in War for the Planet of The Apes as Bad ape.
I remember the books. I think I read 1-5 if I’m remembering correctly. Don’t remember a thing that happened in the books. By the time the movies came out I moved on to other things.
Roderick Roderick. The true main characters in this franchise. I didn't watch the last two I'm not a fan of the very last one. I didn't lock the actor who replaced Roderick but I really don't believe he deserved the hate and threats he got. Seriously what the hell is wrong with people who literally kept insulting him.
I just say “Ok” Completely cut through it. I can’t tell if I wanna boo that joke or compliment you coming up with a good sexual joke good sir! Was that resemble that remark intentional? That was brilliant! Well done if so good sir! Yeah, while Woobies (if I spelled it right) are characters supposed to be hurt and suffer, like Squidward. But not done well. And yes, he’s SUPPOSED to be mean. HOWEVER, he’s not done well. I do see defenders note that. Bart is mean for instance. Malcom and the siblings are mean. It’s about writing. And as for the meanness of the story, it has to have reasons and such. Yes, meanness is fine, but if it’s not done well, it’s unlikable. Series of Unfortunate Events is mean, but it has a point
In all honesty, the only reason I have a positive memory of this Movie is because of the Rowley Character, the Kid who played that role was hilarious! I honestly found the rest of the movie pretty forgettable, but only because of Rowley's performance I like this movie!
I remember going to the theater and my mother & sisters went to see diary of a wimpy kid, but I wanted to see another movie, so I did. guess which one, the first How To Train Your Dragon Movie. never regretted it

There are three animated movies
47:47 Scott The Woz callout.
Fr. When I rewatched this movie a year ago I was like, “is that Scott” 😭
Hey y’all Scott here 🤓
Fun fact Zachary Gordon the actor for Greg went on to voice act in genshin as he was brought on to replace the English voice actor of Tighnari
That's quite the surprise to hear.

Devon Bostick is underrated 💯
@@light2499he really is and in a way so is Chloe grace moretz who’s also in the movie

Roderick from the 4th movie looks like LeafyIsHere before he hit puberty.
@CT-Irodion aww why you gotta do him like that? Lol leafy!
48:51 That impression is actually excellent.
100% 🤣
Doug not understanding that The book and movies are intentionally mean spirited and Greg is supposed to be unlikable, turned me off to this review
It’s possible to understand something was a creative choice and not agree with it. Something that obvious doesn’t need to be explained.
@@robertrothberg3003the way he talked about it, he was clearly unaware of the intention as well as the fact that he mentioned not reading the book.
Doug does that a lot. "I dont get it, WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE VEGAS!?"

Retiring this year, $82K biweekly, this video reminds me of my life in 2023, you have really inspired me in so many ways!!❤️
20:24 Nate throwing a fit 🤣
All due to a miscommunication with his teacher.

30:30 Would've been kinda difficult considering the first book came out in 2007
I believe it was originally a web book on the fun brain website a few years before the physical print and published version but I may be wrong on that
@@pokemontrainer5678 Man, the name FunBrain brings back MEMORIES!
This is a childhood favorite of mine . Both the books and the films
Saw the review a while back, which he had a guest that was familiar with the books.
Could you guys react to Blankboy how Deadpool and wolverine save the Marvel universe
Ironically movie Greg is more redeemable than book Greg.
You need to read the books, and also their a new animated series on disney plus
It's been a while since I read the books I got carried away with the Rick Riordan books 😢.
47:47 idk why, but the dude looks like a fusion between Scott the Woz and Scott Pilgrim (movie).

13:47 actually as of this year the series is now the fourth best selling book series of all time.

The other 2 movies are definitely way better. Sucks he never reviewed the other 2

Don’t know how the first one has a bad audience score on rotten tomatoes, the other 2 movies don’t

Rowley is the best character ever.
This movie isn’t all that good but I have a soft spot for it. Rodrick Rules is still better tho.
Not so fun fact: Zachary Gordon the kid who plays Gregory threatened the prime minister of Canada Justin Trudeau I think
That was another kid who played one of Gregory’s classmates.
