M539 Restorations is the channel for Beemers. Sreten always takes them out underneath as easier. Onto a tool box in the past and now a hydraulic trolley. Make sure you swop out rocker cover gaskets while out and oil filter housing gaskets as always leak. Other than that , keep at it gang !!
Brilliant as ever guys, you saying about Transit wing mirrors reminded me when me and a mate years ago hired a transit,we stopped at a services on M25 in the early hours for "a stay awake coffee" when we came back out to the van both mirrors had gone, the wiper arms and all the badges,it made returning it the next morning rather interesting!
£850 for a known good, low mileage engine or £2k+ to fix a high mileage one which may or may not have a warped block, definitely a no brainer, keep up the good work.
Definitely the safer route to change the engine …. After all it’s your lively hood so why gamble …. The vlogs are great and we would like them to continue
Very wise to change the engine. Just a few hours with a definite outcome and costs that leave a bit of profit with the raffle. Whenever the costs of repairs exceeds the trade value of the car, an objective decision is needed unless there's sentimental reasons and/or unlimited funds.
Sound decision Al. You could well have been chasing your tail, spending lots of cash, wasting a lot of time working and waiting for others, to end up with an engine that still doesn't run well. This way you know you're getting a low mileage, dealer serviced engine all you have to do is put in the hours. You may have difficulties matching the engine to the ECU and electronics but it's been done before so you can do it again. Fudgy proving once again that he's worth his weight in gold as regards replacing bodywork components.👍
Definitely the way to go swapping the motor Al 👌 Cracking job on the Transit Mr Fudge 👏 Thank you boys for all of the quality entertainment, and the hours you put in to make the videos 👍
I always sit and watch in awe when I see you stripping an engine down. How on earth do you remember what goes where??? I marvel at you good sir and your skill.
Great video thanks, I feel your pain with the bummer, I’m replacing the DMF due to failure and Clutch kit because I’m in there, on my 13 reg 26,000mile Panda 4x4: I have never worked on a Panda, last clutch I did was a Cavalier! I’m About to put the gearbox back in but it so cold on the drive.
Check the heater pipes where they go through the bulkhead, they corrode up internally, often blocked solid, easy job with an empty engine bay.......................
Al I think u are doing the right thing by changing the Engine. My experience with BMW aluminium engines is they are never right after a blown head gasket. I will definitely be entering the competition 👍
Love the way you are constantly assessing and reassessing your options on what to do Al. That beamer looks a right kin mare! Better and quicker option is what you're about to do, swap the engine. But it sounds like its still putting up a fight!
Good video as per usual. That’s quite scant reward for what I imagine is a hell of a lot of work to put a video content together and keep it fresh. Fair play to you for sticking at it. I think the channel is great with a great diversity in the vehicles you feature.
Best action on the engine Al coz those engines absolute nightmare to work on and the inlet manifold is nicknamed the hot v and the plastic water pipes get brittle and break with the heat and cost a small fortune to put right more hassle than it’s worth. We had someone in ages ago with a 645ci for overheating and we told home to get rid of it coz it was too much work and was going to cost a fortune coz it was going to be more than the car was worth coz when one bit was fixed then another was going to go and was going to be never out of our garage and would be a problem car plus it had done more mileage than the starship enterprise and had been roasted absolutely rotten and was a bit of a shed plus the threads would come out the block so u would need to drill and helicoil all the bolt holes for the head bolts coz the bmw m52 and m54 engines were like that when u were doing a cylinder head gasket helicoil every cylinder head bolt thread
Ye, I agree, fit another power unit. Lots of grief rebuilding the old one. I've never seen one come out the top, but I'm sure you will manage it. Good video chaps.
There comes a time to revalue what your doing, the parts cost and risk of anything else just dont bear thinking about, good engine swap and get it out of the door
Thanks gents for yet another brilliant video. Spot on decision about the beemer, especially considering the pitfalls with the original engine. Ì bet anybody who has a beemer like this is now cacking themselves about future wallet based woes if they're one decides its fed up being an engine and wants to be a boat anchor!!! By the way did you let Neil into the workshop or did he take the hint?!!!
agree, another engine, sell the old one for spares. just done a HG on a 2003 volvo d5, quite a simply ish job compared to the bmw. but even going on ebay and buying the cheapest priced stuff (still elring and ok ish brands) it all added up. then you find other stuff that needs doing. so yeah just drop in engine a get rid. you can see why these old over complicated cars get scrapped.
I do look forward to your videos. Cracking idea Al replacement engine, less stress and lower mileage for when I win the beast, ha ha. Buying tickets this weekend 🤞🏻
I'm sure ol' trig will find something to break, it is a Fix Or Repair Daily after all, as for the blown engine, yeah, easier to just swap, especially if there's the possibility the engine's a boat anchor after blowing its' lid... :)
Well done Al and fudgy a brilliant video as usual brilliant work on the Beamer and transit! How’s the capri doing fudgy? All the best to you all Daniel
At first I thought this was going to be one of the Range Rover V8s, I did timing chains on a supercharged one of those in-situ once, that was one hell of a job! This is a lot earlier and a lot nicer, but still utterly horrific compared to the nice diesels you normally get to play with!
URM... PROJECT AMBER, CJ & LANCE JUST CASUALLY CAMEOING ON THE CHANNEL? WHUT? That guy did some cracking work on that van a few years ago, engine/gearbox/wiring loom swap from a donor. I dare to say even you might have had to do some head scratching at some of it. He did some really first class work. When I clicked on this video I didn't actually realise it was 6D diseaseals - Swanky BMW's aren't your usual projects. Based on watching Sreten at M539 I have to guess the first thing the factory manual says at doing any kind of major work on one of these is Step 1: Remove engine. I'm sure it makes sense to zi Germans.
Al, what is the secret to getting out the sheer bolts from the door mirrors on a Transit Mk7? I am about to change the passenger side wing and was not aware of Fords stupid idea.
Does anyone else get Kevin and Perry 30 years later vibes. Or is it just me 😂
Big Al, Little Fudge, Cardboard box!
😂😂😂
Yes Mrs Patterson
@mrfishbulb7187 can't you just imagine, fudgie says it like that too Mrs D🤣

I find Al's voice really soothing, he's got that low rumble , I honestly think he would be great for adverts you see on tv.

So much has changed since last going their amazing work guys
Great video Al and Fudgy! Whoever wins that BMW V8 645ci will need a fuel truck following behind 😅😅
Smart thinking on the engine side, i would.
Excellent stuff Al promise me you'll never get fed up of doing RUclips videos 👌👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Some days that a difficult promise!! lol 👍
Good to see CJ and Lance on the youtube. He channel was one of the good ones.
Definitely the way to go swapping the motor Al 👌
Cracking job on the Transit Mr Fudge 👏

It’s easier now we RUclips it all lol you can just go back and review the footage when you’ve forgotten where that one bit goes lol 👍

Great vid and nice to see CJ and Lance.
Those ramps look sympathetic but a couple of my cars have sill adjustments caused by that type 😁 defo replacement engine best action

Cracking content fellas, as always. Right decision made regarding the Big Black Bavarian Missile.
Ye, I agree, fit another power unit. Lots of grief rebuilding the old one. I've never seen one come out the top, but I'm sure you will manage it. Good video chaps.
Good to See C.J on the channel cracking lad followed him for god know’s how many years amber was yellow lance was really small 😂
Absolute no brainer to get a complete engine... Sensible approach
Nice one Al and Fudge. Yeah RUclips don't pay any one that thinks it does is deluded 😂😂
All transits should have an eco sticker on the back -
This van is slowly rusting away to nothing. Ford, committed to the environment.
"This vehicle recycle's its self in a short time scale"
Good idea 💡 guys so will have a low mileage engine fully serviced, nice car for someone
It’s like a cross between M539 Restorations and The Wurzels.
There comes a time to revalue what your doing, the parts cost and risk of anything else just dont bear thinking about, good engine swap and get it out of the door

The lower mileage engine is a much better idea Al. The block is a big risk.
Evening Gentlemen, great content.... haven't heard any spiderage for ages....
Wishing you well gents
Or mouse dufus

Can’t fault you swapping the engine Al, a sensible plan indeed
And that’s why I’m a classic car restorer! The thought of getting involved in that would fill me with dread 🤢
Brilliant video Al and Fudge keep it up guys
I do look forward to your videos. Cracking idea Al replacement engine, less stress and lower mileage for when I win the beast, ha ha. Buying tickets this weekend 🤞🏻
Fantastic always appreciated 👍
Yes an engine transplant which is a no brainer. In the words of Del Boy “You know it makes sense”
Good decision on changing the engine in my new car.
Youll never het the front crank bolt un done!!! Speaking from experience!! Good luck mate
If it's cheaper to replace or repair replace is the better option
I'm sure ol' trig will find something to break, it is a Fix Or Repair Daily after all, as for the blown engine, yeah, easier to just swap, especially if there's the possibility the engine's a boat anchor after blowing its' lid... :)
Well done Al and fudgy a brilliant video as usual brilliant work on the Beamer and transit! How’s the capri doing fudgy? All the best to you all Daniel
Engine back and on its way back together 👍
@ fantastic news bet fudgy getting excited

Yes!!!! Carbon effect air filter. ☕🚬☕🚬
*Its like Bodie and Doyle Dorset style👍*
very good video 👍❤😊😊😊😊
Crikey , wurkin on a beemer , coooool
Shit the bed this morning, so I'm up early watching this.
Brilliant.. thank you 🙂
That sounds like a lot better idea than trying to repair that knackered engine just rip it out and put the low mileage in pukka 👍
It will be a nice car for somebody
Another great video has always al and fudgy and mrs d and mrs fugdy 👍
How do fellas, nice flash back for the twat mug😊, merc diesel in the Beamer for the win😮
👍😎
Another fab video keep up the great work Al and Fudgy , what is that tyre for my the office door it look quite a chunky monkey ?
I presume you know the trick to get the Transit bumper back it's original colour with a hot air gun
Yes or a gas torch 👍
Worst thing to do it just dries the oils out in the plastic. Try forever black that works feckin mint and lasts well forever
No brainer! Do it

It's not leaking oil, it's sweating power
😂😂👍
Al, what is the secret to getting out the sheer bolts from the door mirrors on a Transit Mk7? I am about to change the passenger side wing and was not aware of Fords stupid idea.
Long thin punch to shock shear off bolts, then use long thin pointed punch & tap round anti clockwise on shear off bolts.
Tbf they done that because people used to steal mk6 mirror for fun cause they were normal bolts 😂
@ Thanks, will give it a go.
I’ve found a sharpened small screw driver and use it like a chisel 👍
@@6DDIESELSDorset Cheers Al
Evening gents
Evening fella 👍
ah ye😎😎
Swapping the engine is more viable on the BMW
Who's smoking drum ? Ain't seen that for years
That’ll be me 👍
Watch M539 restoration's channel and see how much a money pit these shitty BMW's are and how he does major engine work on them 😊
That is why I'd never own a modern BMW.
Why would you want to upset trained killers!!??
😂😂😂😂💪
You said "swap out" instead of change, come on man, we're not American or teenagers. 😉(not meant in a nasty way)
