The Whammy DT can actual change the tunning of your guitar in 1/2 steps either up or down in pitch. It also does everything the regular Whammy does. The regular Whammy only does pitch bends or harmonies.
One thing no one seems to display is the Oct + Dry effect on the drop side which sounds a lot like a CKY signature sound. Your guitar sounds like a motorcycle engine. It’s super rad! That’s the one thing this video did not display but I’m sold!
its a little awkward, but you can get used to it. if the drop tuning leaves all your strings in some sort of harmony with the drop tuned signal, you get used to it really quickly and it feels cool if you catch some good feedback
Depends on the volume. If your in the bedroom playing low it bugs the shit out of me. I can feel the difference with my hands on rare occasions. Ultimately though at any real world volume level you cant tell at all. The drop tune settings really just add a whole new dimension to what people have been doing with the whammy and octave effects for years now. Youve heard alot of these tones on dozens of albums and might not even know it, the dt is just alot better at tracking than older pedals.
This actually came out first. The Drop was created as a standalone for people who wanted the droptuning function only. Basically, the Drop uses the same algorithm as the Whammy DT droptune feature.
@lukeyboymuzic The Digitech Whammy will do harmonies like the PS5 and PS6 which will make it sound like two guitars but it does not do intelligent pitch shifting.
Actually there is another feature in the 5 dude. It has a chord tracking feature also. I own the DT and love it. But for those who want cleaner chord tracking then the 5 does it much better oh also a toggle switch allows you to switch between the newe tracking or original version. I prefer the glitchy sounding tracking from the 1 to DT models :)
@101DIGITAL010 I just bought more so for the tuning option (so I wouldn't literally have to take 4 guitars to a gig) and I think it is fantastic. The tracking is perfect...if you get into the lower tuning (closer to an octave) it gets a little off...but just slightly..still way usable.
A good digitech RP500 and this can make unbeleivable sounds. You can get an RP1000 to have a little more but really, the 500 gives you all you need. Even though you already have a pitch shifter built in the RP, this is useful to add effects along with this. I GOTTA SAVE UP!!
the amount of shit this pedal can do is just amazing. worth MUCH more than 250. i wouldnt be surprised if it was 400 dollars. chorus pedal, drop tuner, dive bomber, harmonizer, octave, and whammy all in one. what the bloody hell. pedal of the gods, anyone?
Thanks for playing some White Stripes, that's what we wanted to hear... and some RATM might be cool as well ps: yup, like everybody else I'm Dying to get one of this
I'm only one step before buying this pedal and thats because i have question! Please answer it to me so that i can buy it. Is it droping the tuning half steps? I mean.. can i have my guitar tuned to E standard and drop it to Eb (Eb,Bb,Gb,Db,Ab,Eb) with this pedal?? Thanks in advance!
Hi! I have problem with the drop side, I just bought the pedal and when is used only this pedal, it works fine, but in my chain the drop side starts adding some weird harmony, how can I fix this problem, I put the whammy right after the tunner. Thaank you!
Does this pedal allow me to always play an octave above, then switch to the normal sound + an octave above? I intend to use it on bass to do Royal Blood covers so that's what i need Thanks
At drop tuning side Using 9-42 strings, can this pedal track every note and chord? I've heard that you need enough tension in string for this pedal to track notes properly
In your opnion will this pedal do well with Old Black Sabbath songs. As you probably know they do 1 1/2 step down tuning. For example Lord of the World. Cheers,
@motorgruve dont think they still make it, but digitech used to have a whammy pedal designed for bass. Ive got a buddy who plays a 5 string shecter bass (not sure of the model) and he has a regular whammy in his setup and it seems to do fine even playing his low B and shifting the note. see if you can find videos if you search digitech bass whammy
Thank you, the guitar I mentioned is a 7 string though. Same deal with having no latency and no tone affection, I'm assuming? I'm considering ordering this ASAP.. :P
Well that is a good question...... I would say technically it is monophonic on the Whammy side. I have used mine for a subtle 12 string effect, but I can only pick single notes not strum chords.
Did vou feel the DropTune function affect the original signal and tone? I have Morpheus DropTune and I felt loosing signal affecting tone... I didn't like...
If you used the whammy you could maybe split the difference maybe tune down a full step and use the whammy to go the rest of the way. The whammy is pretty good going down to C from a standard tuning, but it depends on how picky the end user. I use mine to go down a full step and I am fine with it, it "feels" good to me if you go down to to "C" you might get a little latency but it is still way better than anything else I have tried.
I have the digitech drop tune pedal, the small one. Is there any difference if I just buy the standard whammy and combine it with my drop tune? Or is there a difference you cannot get?
will it alow me to change it to drop a? i like playing slipknot and bullet for my valentine alot, so im looking for a pedal that i can use to make the right effects
The whammy 5 comes with a classic mode, wich switches it to the whammy 4 sound (when playing chords). Is this also the case with the digitech whammy 5 DT?
Does the latency represent a problem is you shred, or you just feel it without being like disorientated ? I mean by that would the audience feel the latency if you were shredding with a drop C on it ?
This pedal would sound great with any guitar and amp right? I'm just making sure before I make the purchase. I have a Schecter Damien Elite with EMGs and a Spider Iv 150W Line 6. If I downtuned with this, it wouldnt sound unclear correct? Just checking.
Fantastic review. Showcases everything you need to know without all of the annoying talking and ACTUALLY SHOWS the pedal in action.
Tom Morello: The Pedal
More like buckethead
@@alexmurphy5289 more like bucket morello
Jack White uses it as well
Definitely a jack white pedal
idek the mad
Tom Morello of Rage
Head and Munky of Korn
Herman and Sam of Dragonforce
Buckethead (I think)
All of these guys use Whammy pedals.
Buckethead does indeed use one, and is the master of using it.
Thank God I was looking for a valid reason to ruin my financial stability
Don't forget my man Jack White
I think Jack White used one as well.
Buckethead's Turntablist DJ Disk uses this as well
The first drop tuning was actually to Eb, the second to D, and so on and so forth.
I was just going to comment that but I see you did it 4 years ago...LOL
@@Pewtooyou Strange that he doesn't mention the E standard to Eb standard drop as for many guitarists that's the one they need the most.
@@bobirvine6371 True story!!!
@@bobirvine6371 I just leave my guitar tuned to Eb all of the time hahahahaha
I just bought a used 4. Wish i got the DT for the drop from E to Eb. Damn.

Love the rage you put in there

10 years late to the show but thank you for this review vid. Solid :)
Same thing here :)
Same!
3:22 Ohhhhh I saw thaaat! Bombtrack hahaha
and 311 before that
We don't have problems in tunings anymore like in Gasoline by Audioslave
5:36 --> Ball and Biscuit
Best video reviewing a pedal! Thank you so much.
no
i got me one of these never getin rid of it its fantastic my fave pedal to date.
Just bought it after 5 secs watching that video....not out the box yet but already in contention for my fav!
Do u still find it useful?
that first strum at 2:40 sounds the the first note in Fell In Love With a Girl by TWS
Both are A Powerchords with Overdrive
not karl probably 30 other songs start with that chord. One I can think of right now is Highway to Hell.
what a great review, as all should be. Quick, right to the point with examples. Great man, and you just took me into buying one :D

Yup:)
or drop d an octave down
Most comprehensive whammy DT video out there
the drop tuning is really impressive though. sounds natural.
I like the 311 homebrew! :)
Best explanation of what the whammy can do. Very nice, I think I'll get one

That 311 "Homebrew" riff was NOT missed by me, nice
Great demo and review of the pedal
So, it is a Whammy 4 + Digitech Drop pedal right?
This actually came out first. The Drop was created as a standalone for people who wanted the droptuning function only. Basically, the Drop uses the same algorithm as the Whammy DT droptune feature.
It's more like Whammy *5* + Drop

thanks, that is a great device. Only left to find it up at the stores of my country
omg and I thought the original pedal couldn't be better, but it did! i want one...
8:00 It sounds more like live version (Seven Nation Army)
My pedal sounds too digital when i try to replicate Jack white solos with 1 & 2 octaves up. Any suggestion about how i could fix this ?
Yes. It will tune down in half steps up to 1 octave
If you mean A Standard, of course! But for Drop A you would need each string to be picked up individually and a crazy setup.

You think you can use this to simulate a 8 string guitar with a 6?
YOOOOOO homie ripped some 311 with the octave mode. Respect. ✊🏻
Id like to use this to tune my guitar that is tuned to D (for ease of bending) to standard E

How do you use the half step down functions? Since it only have 8 different lights, which means a whole note intervals and not halves?
can the momentary function be applied to the "harmony" and "whammy " effects as well? or just the "shift " effects?
what happens if you pitch powerchords up one or two octaves? does it work?
