I'm sorry, I commented whilst half asleep but as I awoke I thought "Erm..." too. It wasn't in keeping so I returned to delete & say "Paul, Rebecca, it was crass of me. Please accept my apologies."
I definitely missed Rebecca & noticed. Paul, consider renaming the channel "That British Dude Who Walks a Lot & Loves History Especially Roman Roads & Disused Railways"
Thank you for this update Rebecca & Paul. I have been curious. Very glad you two are together and still collaborating. Also happy with the progress of the channel. Still very personal but a bit different from the "taking a hike with knowledgeable mates" feeling that I used to get. I wish you every success. Cheers!
I'd been thinking there had been a lack of Rebecca in the recent series of videos. Glad you,'ve decided to each get a channel where each of you can flourish in the foreground.
It's so good of you both to support each others work and creativity, I've always like railways and the history of them ever-since my youth. Just up until a year ago I discovered your channel and also took interest in the topic of canal-ways. I discovered the old bones of an old canal-way not far from where I live. I just think it's plain interesting in what we discover around us that's commonly overlooked and not questioned.
Well at least now I know how you pronounce your name, I was torn between White-wick, White-ick and Whittick (as in Wightwick Hall, near Wolverhampton).
Sounds like we might be treated to Roman Roads and Roamin' Rails! Whatever fits best with you both on the way forward would work for me. Good luck with both projects!
I think Rebecca should review the stations comfort level as to seating, shelter from bad weather and of course food. Geoff Marshall covers the underground and commuter lines but nobody talks up the rural lines. Throw in a bit of history and local gossip around the stations and you'll have a winner!
Funny thing is that I am equally interested in the railways of the UK and also the more ancient history! So if this means even more on each topic, I am all for it! Best wishes from George PS: Rebecca, how about a vid on the lost railways of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire? So many fascinating branch-lines that connected villages and smaller towns between the larger towns and cities. And it being rural there is so much evidence still left! Fascinating would be to trace the Worcester, Bromyard Leominster line, but also Malvern and Tewksbury and so many more. Like the Gloucester, Todd-on-Wye, Monmouth line or even the Monmouth Chepstow line. As for Roman Roads and ancient roads no longer used along their entire lengths, dear Paul, How about the ancient Roman and pre-Roman route between Ledbury and Bromyard? Also an examination of the Roman Road that ran as a sort of by-pass for Hereford on the north side as an extension of what is now called the A 4103, or even the Gloucester to Hereford Canal, which is largely still there but full of mud! Your fix each Sunday, both of you, warms my heart for the local history!
Yes please! Several branch lines in Worcestershire have gone, and a couple of disused/ vanished stations and halts on existing lines, f.e. Henwick Station and Fernhill Heath Halt ( which still has it's footbridge in place ).
@@alanclarke4646 I lived for a while in Lapal Close right next to Henwick Halt, and indeed one day the steam engine Oliver Cromwell decoupled from its carriages and did a run back from Foregate Street Station [in Worcester] and gave us a real show one weekend ... that must now be more than ten years ago. Terrible joke. The devil wanted to buy a house in Worcestershire and made enquiries about nice properties"in Fernhill Heath!" Best wishes from George
@@alanclarke4646 I now live a mile from Bromyard, and in calling Henwick Station a halt, I am merely quoting what the last station master called it. After Lapal Close, I lived at 25 Happy Lands North where he lived during his tenure as Henwick Station master. That he called it a halt was good enough for me, though perhaps it evolved from a station to a halt, before ceasing to be a stop at all. There is a used ticket at the Elgar Birthplace Museum [The Firs, Lower Broagheath], from Shrub Hill to Henwick [rtn], which Elgar bought while living at Marlbank, Rainbow Hill, in the city-side], which kind of shows the great composer's whimsy! Pop over to Henwick 'coz I have nothing better to do! Best wishes from George
