Boston Celtics come through in the clutch, take 3-0 ECF lead

  • The Celtics came out strong but the Indiana Pacers matched them shot for shot early on and then took off in the second quarter, hitting an ungodly amount of shots. They built up an 18 point lead but the Celtics kept chipping away and, after Joe Mazzulla refocused them in the third, they started to defend better and close the lead. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal gets into all that, the big closing kick that won Boston the game, Jrue Holiday's steal, Jayson Tatum's pass, and so much more.

THAT’S THE JT I LOVE. He hinted before the game too saying “I LOVE game threes…” 36 points, 10 rebs, 8 asts & 0 to’s. Never been done-by anyone ever in a playoff game. And to have the balls to throw that behind the back pass to Al in that crucial moment? Jrue and Al were Gods tonight. Horford defying age & burying 8 treys, blocking shots and Jrue with that steal, great defense and he & Al just inspiring the fck out of their teammates. Jaylen had yet another solid night with 24 and some electrifying plays that kept my hope alive when I really felt like turning it off. I’ll admit I spent most of the night cussing at the missed threes, Hauser looking just awful and the at times porous defense. But when the chips were really down and Boston saw blood in the water, they attacked & were ruthless. What a win. HOLIDAY WEEKEND BABY. Jrue Holiday that is! Finish it Monday boys. Thanks John! ☘️🔒

What an INCREDIBLE game! JT responding to all the ridiculous slander with an incredible game. Not only scoring in the first half, but making so many big plays including that AMAZING behind the back to Al for a 3 that saved us late :) Then big shoutout to PLAYOFF AL and Jrue who made big plays all night and especially when it mattered most.
Funnily enough (and I know this is weird but whatever) - what I loved most was how after the Pacers final shot missed, instead of celebrating, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White immediately got to talking about how Nesmith got open. Take a look at it again and you see them immediately going to each other to talk through how it happened.
Thats a team that has its eyes on the prize. They weren't going nuts celebrating. They were saying 'yoooo how did he get that good a look? Thats on us.'

I really enjoyed this W because it demonstrated the resilience and the mental strength of the team. Resilience and mental strength are crucial ingedients for a championship team. Give Brad Stevens a ton of credit for adding Jrue Holiday to this team. He's a real warrior on the floor with a significant impact on both sides of the floor. Celtics won this trade with the Trailblazers easily. Experience really matters at this stage of the playoffs. The inexperienced Nembhard with two decisive mistakes in the final minute of the game in games 1 & 3. I am kind of relieved to see Tatum hitting the 3PT shots again after his 3PT scoring slump over the last few games.

Despite some questionable calls and missing wide open shots, Celtics really put their heads down and dug deep to pull a win. Just some absolutely amazing plays down the stretch from Al’s 3, Tatums contributions and Jrues and1 and steal. Just pure grit and grind. to be fair, we've been in the ECF 5 of the last 6 years. Yes this year has been advantageous in terms of opponent injuries, but its not like we weren't already the #1 seed in the league with 64 wins who has been there nearly ever year in the last 6 years.
Also, we've had our fair share of injury pain. IT in 2017, Kyrie/Gordon in 2018, Gordon again in 2020 with the ankle, JB out for Playoffs with wrist in 2021, then Rob/Marcus missing time in the 2022 Playoffs and then of course last year JT goes down with the ankle injury first play of G7 against Miami.
We've been hurt by injuries before. Its about time we got a little luck in that regard and remember, even this year we haven't had KP and who knows how he'll play when he gets back after this time off

Cool comp to make between Butlers INT + Holiday’s steal. The superbowl implications obviously makes that play more impactful - but in a vacuum it felt similar. In both games at those moments you thought the other team was gonna win a hard fought battle at the very end until *it was snatched right from them.
This is what Holiday gets paid to do though. Butler got paid because he did it.

All we had to do is play off of them on defense. Nobody on that team besides turner wants to shoot 3’s. We have to dare them to shoot 3’s and play the drive. Go under all pick n rolls. Once we started doing that late in the 3rd quarter we turned it around

Derrick White is a step slow defensively during this game but made up for the 4 blocks. But man Nembhard and TJ is getting their way a lot versus White.

I don't think KP should come back this series even if he's 100%. It's not a coincidence that every team that plays the pacers gets injured. They injured like 3 bucks players and put the knicks entire roster in the hospital. They'll take out KP for sure. Especially Nesmith and his dumbass vendetta against the Celtics because of some made up perceived slight against him. The dude sucked, so he couldn't get playing time, and he blames the celtics for it.

I liked Nesmith when he was with us. Dude hustled like a mad man and I could tell his shooting was going to come around. I was bummed when we traded him, but at the time getting Brogdon was the right play. I don't think he should have a vendetta against us, but oh well. The guy clearly didn't suck though. We were just loaded.
