There was a rumor that Mahiru Koizumi was supposed to be the Protagonist of Danganronpa 2, Probably because Danganronpa 1 had a male protagonist so ofcourse the next game had to have a female protagonist to even it out, But in development they decided to make Hajime the new protagonist, probably because of the story since he was the mastermind all along, Mahiru was then sidelined and was made to die in chapter 2, and it explains why she has similar sprites to Kaede because they are Protagonist-type sprites, Sprites that can belong to a protagonist, i guess it also aligned with Mahiru's character to be smart and to ask smart questions cuz in Trial 1 she was very involved in the conversation, but imo i love Mahiru, she is my fav character in the whole franchise, and it's because she is like a mom and helps all of her friends get along, i just wish she had been the protagonist like Hajime's great but they really always push the "oMg i'M sO bAsiC aND bOriNG." agenda... so it would've been nice to play as a photographer, and it also explains why she has such a basic/bland design, and her ultimate talent was pretty basic too.. Mahiru had a lot of potential but tbh it's fine, Atleast someone on twt made a Mahiru Protag au and im loving it, cant wait for Trial 2 for it to come out.
