Nuance..this is just a fragment of the larger or narrower paradigms that come with this kind of thinking/being.
Yes there are some with same thoughts and even this on a general level is only done by the minority of people..or reached. There are levels to this shit. People like to assume most people are this way for own comfort, and if you dont you are pushed in the 'arrogant' corner. Which is ridiculous since it is a lonely place if you are on a certain level of consciousness/intelligence and especially with no outlet or being restricted at the same time due to whatever. (illness, barriers, underprivileged etc)
Also I agree with Arnold. And to me just knowing how few people even seen Synecdoche and those that truly love it with sincerity and not for trying to be 'cool' or look smart (which fails) ie a small fragment of the (western) world, says something. Of course in combination of meeting and talking to people my whole life.. There are levels in life..in all sorts of things. And the truly sincere, the intelligent, the truly sensitive..are a small minority in a world filled with scared sheep.

    "Autopsychography"
    Poets pretend
    They pretend so well
    They even pretend
    They suffer what they suffer.
    But their readers feel
    Nor the pain that pretends
    Nor the pain that is
But only their own that isn't real.
    And so upon toy rails
    Circling reason like an art
    Runs round the model train
That's known by the name of heart.

Just always be loving to yourself. That's the best I can do. I took a risk and shared my personal struggle with people who only knew me on the surface. They saw me at my worst and in the end they decided to reject me anyway. If anyone judges you let me tell you that they are just scared. Scared because you had the guts to be honest, scared because they can relate. We all suffer the same. Some just use all their energy hiding their dark parts.

A song from George Harrison that fits the topic: It's easier to tell a lie than it is to tell the truth
It's easier to kill a fly than it is to turn it loose
It's easier to criticize somebody else
    Than to see yourself
It's easier to give a sigh and be like all the rest
Who stand around and crucify you while you do your best
It's easier to see the books upon the shelf
    Than to see yourself
It's easier to hurt someone and make them cry
Than it is to dry their eyes
I got tired of fooling around with other people's lies
Rather I'd find someone that's true
It's easier to say you won't than it is to feel you can
It's easier to drag your feet than it is to be a man
It's easier to look at someone eles's wealth
    Than to see yourself

Have people ever told you you're the "nice one"? Or even describe you as something like smart, funny, confident (the funny one, the smart one) etc.? Most people think I'm nice, but the more they say it the more it feels like a poor act. I dont really know if I'm being sincere honestly, sometimes I get tired of being this way, but it's what I'm known for and I feel like people like me the way I am.
Idk honestly why people assume I'm nice even when they dont really know me or when I've never done an act of kindness for them ever, just being polite and smiling seems to make everyone jump to conclusions I guess.
I think it's so true that everyone seems to be defined or simplified by character traits. And when they act "out of character" people think its wierd, or unlikable, but sometimes cool

Yea, I know people naturally gravitate towards characterization and grouping but I do hate when people do that. When people define you as the "smart" one or the "pretty" one or whatever general idea we consider compliments, we end up trapping people in that idea. People are then trying to best capture it or disprove it. If they don't capture it, they feel like shams even when they never perpetuated it. If people don't like it, they feel like they can never convince people otherwise. Either ways, they are stuck in a box they can never really escape from.

"share ourself with complete vulnerability and authenticity."
That is what you call being honest.
Telling the truth, your truth, in the face of even the worst of circumstances.
This does not mean to self doubt in the face of what others think. That's an illusion.
It also doesn't mean that your truth must always be right. That's your ego.
It just means that no matter the consequence. You are willing to be exactly what you are.
Good and bad, right or wrong. Honesty, is the key that opens the door to fulfillment.
Don't get me wrong. It's not easy being honest.
But, if you stay true. You'll find people who appreciate that in you, and the people who don't will dissolve away.

I went through this between ages 25 and 27. I called it my "mirror phase" because I spent hours confronting myself via an actual mirror.
I guess all those years growing up watching"The Neverending Story" planted a seed... looking at you Oracle #2.
I can't explain the visceral struggle of looking into your own eyes for long periods of time. It was almost always hard and always work so if you try this be prepared and I encourage baby steps.
I confronted much and defined much of who i am today however.... if we're honest with ourselves life demands that this type of work be revisited as the journey continues.
I again find myself in need of this work but this time my shadow is almost completely in check so I'm excited to see what I see.
I have lost my way in some respects though and this is why I'm returning to the mirror. I'm trying to walk with the sage, conquer ego death, however you want to phrase it but doing that while not getting bogged down by the responsibilities in this world can be tricky.
Good luck and good health to you all. Thank you for this video. You gave me an idea to try something in a group setting involving sharing hard truth with others.
I've done this and it's frightening but it really is freeing especially if the others understand and accept you..... no promises there though.

This was a great video! I disagree with most of it.
I don't hold to there BEING a true self. We can't even make bold claims like, "We're in a constant state of change" because sometimes, we're NOT changing. Sometimes changing, sometimes not. Sometimes true, sometimes not.
There isn't really any 'one' true self. Just the self of the moment. I think the larger implications behind the question "who am I?" have gotten in the way of asking "Why is it important to know who I am?"
And I don't know that it is important, personally.

Do take what I have to say with a grain of salt for I am in an inebriated state.
But I have dealt with these personality crisises since I was fifteen and to finally learn that I’m alone and to learn that a person with a job I mostly sought after I feel more comfortable in the fact that I’m not too certain on who I am but I hope to have the same mindset of being myself even when it is considered the same way as described in the video. I’m just glad that I’m not alone.

I got stuck in a time loop for a long time, where depressed I realized, that I struggle with motivation and creativity because I'm not really trying to engage myself but someone else. And you need to try being yourself, in your medium and in your life. And now I'm watching this video, that truly resonates in the same level, bit of coincidence.

I can completely and almost with ease even understand everything I hear you say when you speak it throughout these videos. There is a sort of magic in the way you tell a story or explain things in that the mental picture is formed clearly and as quickly as it is heard or even said. This I find is often rare with many narrators as I can’t always keep up or I end up thinking faster than they speak. I enjoy just being able to ride along and watch the magic happen. Anyway thanks man. You rock sir 👍🏼✌🏼

The identification with the body-mind and, of course, personality will keep us trapped in a suffering place. Thats why great schools of thought like Advaita ( related to Hinduism) has a deep understanding of the methaphysical world of the I-ness and the way to overcome the idea of being something like a person or a body, or something limited by fear and desire. In the core the idea of being a person is just created by the mind and its illusory, all pain is an illusion.

Interesting. I would love to unmute my soul and be more authentic especially when it comes to asserting myself when I feel disrespected. I know you can shows to abstain from asserting yourself if you choose and that is still assertiveness. It seems others are comfortable in their aggressiveness.
This lack of being real is fear of rejection and disapproval rooted in childhood.

Almost every other video on this channel, as much as it resonated with me, has only sent me spiraling further down a seemingly endless existencial crisis. This to the point where I have fantasized about receiving a lobotomy so that I can live only to be but not to think, as irrational as that is especially in face of the fears I am facing.
This was the first video that felt like a well needed break.
This is an amazing channel either way. Having your way of thinking challeneged, giving a face to your fears which makes it all the more intimidating, but also allows you to understand what you are up against.
I dream of a world where humans can learn to coexist and accept each other for their shortcomings, and where crime fighting is not about punishing people deemed too evil for this world, but solely focused on keeping vulnerable individuals safe from harm.
Where we do not see other peoples failings as a reason to gloat and declare ourselves better, but where we whileheartedly accept the ineptitude of mankind, and realize that the only reason we may have managed to make better choices, was because we were granted the right tools, whether internal or external.
