What a journey! Watch our reactions to EVERY episode of Star Trek The Original Series --> ruclips.net/p/PL5Pso33oqJDh42SaJFX3kdl1ZkBea3gxc
GREAT job guys - congrats on the whole thing - one of the best reaction series I've ever enjoyed. This summary had me laughing literally out loud and crying in the same clip lol.
Please, please, PLEASE watch the fan-made series Star Trek Continues BEFORE you watch the TOS movies. It is a SUPERBLY produced show that emulates the Original Series absolutely faithfully and completes Kirk's 5-Year Mission (Capt. Robert April completed a single 5-Year Mission and Capt. Christopher Pike completed 2 5-Year Missions) aboard the Enterprise.
This was a great wrap up of the series, Alex and Josh, bittersweet as the end of one thing, but on to the next too.
The fact that these guys knew nothing of Star Trek but ended up loving TOS is awesome, but the best part was for life long fans like me to experience the series through fresh eyes like we were watching it for the first time again too. This channel has been an absolute joy.
Yeah, can't echo this sentiment enough. To see something through their eyes or listen to their take on episodes. And I don't think I've ever gotten bent out of shape that they didn't like the ones I did or liked the ones I didn't.
Well said and absolutely right.
My thoughts exactly
Yeah it’s really a treat and I can’t emphasize how glad I am that they started with TOS instead of TNG or the JJ movies, which is what a lot of people suggest online. I’m so excited to see them move on through the TOS movies (TAS is actually the only series I don’t care about, well and Prodigy)
It really answers the question of "is this show timeless"? It's so internalized to my being having seen so many reruns, it's kinda impossible to even consider it from an outsider perspective. So glad that it is timeless and that they enjoyed so much of it.
As an Original 1966 Trekkie, I really appreciated that you Guys did this. I can watch Any TOS Episode Anytime Day or Night!
This was a riot 😅. I loved your silence reaction to joan collins dying. That episode is stunning. 9:42
Even in just these highlights (which don't include all of them), we can see how often Alex was prescient about something that was going to happen.
Both of them, at different times.
“Well … we’d better start with the gorilla.”
😂😂😂
Ha that was a brilliant moment!
Alex and Josh saw exactly what everyone who watched A Private Little War talked about for weeks. The constant changes and action you saw throughout.
Thank you for your ride through Star Trek TOS. Your reactions were honest, funny, spontaneous and sincere. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
Some of my favorite moments: when Alex reacted to Kirk and Spock in mob attire, and both Josh and Alex's responses to "I Mudd", and "City on the Edge of Forever".
But, overall, I enjoyed watching them becoming Trekkies before our eyes.
This was awesome. Side note - some of the writing on this series was so powerful. "City on The Edge of Forever" when the climatic scene happened, it still had the same punch as it did when I first saw this in the 1960s. Loved you guys reactions to all of these.🚀
You guys really went on some kind of trek! LLAP!
You guys are... astronauts.. on some kind of star trek!
I honestly think you could watch them all again and your "revised reactions" would be just as illuminating -- and entertaining. Thanks again for the ride.
BTW, if you want to watch science fiction movies from the same era as STOS, "Planet of the Apes" is a classic from 1968. There's also "Fantastic Voyage" from 1966 and "2001: A Space Odyssey" from 1968. After Star Trek ended, in 1971 there was "The Andromeda Strain," "A Clockwork Orange," "The Omega Man," and "THX-1138" by George Lucas. In 1972, "Silent Running" and "Slaughterhouse-Five." In '73, "Sleeper," "Soylent Green," and "Westworld." In '74, "Dark Star" by John Carpenter, which is edging more into the "Logan's Run," "Star Wars," and "Alien" era.
Dude every one you listed there is a classic!
@@MikePhillips-pl6ov Yeah, but these two just earned their first stripe, and SG is already dropping all this work on them.
Take it easy, SG, it is a big world! Nobody can absorb everything all at once.
(Overwhelmed emoji)
Watching for months you guys journey through TOS has been a blast!
This also reminded me of how often Alex made Josh crack up.
Thanks for the 40-minute series look back.🤓
If only! The last two words spoken on the show! I only they would have known how popular it would become, and kept going. If only!
Those two words were perfect for NBC, they gifted Paramount/Desilu/CBS millions along with many more movies, TV Series, online & video games I could go on but NBC even showed how popular Star Trek became by bringing back the Animated Series a few years later.
@@chake46 True, but I was talking about NOT canceling it after the third season and doing a 4th, 5th, and however many more.
@@georgeplimpton9429 I understood your message "if only" NBC did not blunder with that decision to cancel which opened the door for Paramount to start Star Trek's syndication. Then to really show how NBC messed up in 1973 they brought back the Animated Series after the surge of ST at that time.
Alex & Josh AKA TA has opened a lot of people's eyes to how different Star Trek was with the excellent writers, producers, directors & the actors who carried this show to heights NBC never thought possible. Which I just found amazing over the years. Paramount/Desilu/CBS really was gifted millions from NBC's stupidity at the time.
I really enjoyed your reactions to one of my childhood favorites. I had to watch to see your reactions to every episode. I believe you come to enjoy (love) TOS as much as I do. Love your content. Keep up the work.
I really enjoyed this look back at your reactions. It reminded me just how much you guys enjoyed the show and how much fun you had watching it! I'm really looking forward to more Buffy because you aren't going to treat it like it's some sort of sacred cow, if that analogy even works here.
The the Sacred Cow always makes for a Tasty Burger!
From one who began the Star Trek journey in kindergarten in 1966, your first time, three season tour was a real nostalgic ride for me, seeing each episode as though it was the first time! Thanks!! Star Trek has become one of the most iconic TV series ever created and all Star Trek productions that followed after were and are highly anticipated by the fans.
Besides being personable and enjoyable to watch-I have to thank you guys-as one of those fans with a Trek room in his house it had been years and years since I watched some of the older episodes. You made me realize my perceptions watching as a kid are very different than now that I am grown up (grown up and a trek room? debatable). It was nice to experience again some of the episodes I despised as a child thru a new set of eyes-yours and my old eyes. Amazing how well the stories really tried to accomplish a message of hope. Thanks guys for letting me enjoy the journey with you and I cant wait for the movie watch throughs!! Thank you for the amount of work this one took!
Great compilation! And nice bittersweet ending. But the TOS crew still have some epic adventures ahead, then you can get to know Capt. Picard and crew. Lots of great times to be had with them as well...
TNG is-AWESOME-in the 3rd season !!! Season 1 &2 are dull and boring.
@powerbad696 powerbad696 nah even the first two seasons had jems in there. And I'm Also sure they'll love ds9 with all the great recurring characters
Alex, Josh, I LOVED this. Great job! I almost forgot…there are a collection of outtakes and bloopers. You might be able to find them on RUclips. A lot of fun!
I'm looking forward to the continuation of your trek through this uniververse...
I absolutely love me some Trek. I really can't wait for you guys to appreciate all the rest of the universe. Absolutely brilliant
Now slow down, Welsh. The "Star Trek universe" is a big one.
They could spend the rest of their lives watching Trek stuff at this rate.
Let them explore it at their own pace.
Truly, though, it was an original choice and I love it. You’re the only channel I’ve come across to do quality TOS reaction videos. It’s anti-trend and I’m all for it!
Been watching from the start with you two and have quite enjoyed your reactions and thoughts on each episode. Rare to find a fresh perspective on such a classic series. Very excited to continue with the Animated Series, Movies and beyond! LLAP
Next stop, the animated series. And the eternally entertaining “Character X run towards camera”. Most pretty well written though
I found you guys from starting to watch TOS my self, it was around the same time you uploaded the first episode and it was good to watch your journey through it along with mine, listening to your thoughts about the episodes was also fun! Can’t wait for future Star Trek stuff as I’m on that journey still too! :-)
Welcome new Trekker to our community of fans.
@@pauld6967 thanks, it’s a great community to be apart of!
I kid a bit, but the truth is that I feel tremendous gratitude for this journey. After all these years I assumed that I knew original Trek pretty solidly, but on many occasions, I had to seriously reevaluate just how fair and thorough my memories really were. I look forward -- a little -- to the animated series, but I hope we can move straight on to the six movies.
I keep thinking that now there are so many references to the original Star Trek series in other movies and television shows that you will both now "get". Watching the white gorilla creature - the Mugato - made me instantly wonder if you had ever seen the Ben Stiller movie Zoolander - and that if you had not and did so in the future you would now be "in on the joke". 🙂 Or Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. Heck, any of dozens of other references are now just going to come across as being so much funnier to you both! Excellent reactions, and thoughtful insights. Bravo to you both.
That was some quality work guys. Very nice rewatching these through fresh eyes.
great fun

I loved watching these classic episodes with you both 👏👏 I’ve seen them all numerous times but rewatching with your added perspective made them come to life on another level 💯 on another note Alex’s ever changing hair and fashion adds to the drama 😂💯😍
Coming from a Trek fan since the 1970s, I hope you guys watch the original movies! The Motion Picture (or Star Trek I) is a slow burn but kicks off the movie series...
Star Trek II is considered the best Trek film of all time- and it is not only my personal favourite- it is my #1 film of any genre!
I thoroughly enjoyed your reactions, and this look back is perfectly edited.
Priceless! Thank you so much!
Special thanks for your review of the show that consumed a lot of my childhood (and that I've never fully gotten over)!
I loved this recap, as much for what really got to you guys as for what cracked you fellows up!!!
Why do you say "gotten over" like the show was traumatic, or something? 🙁
Maybe I used it wrong, but my intention was as if to say, I've never gotten over my excitement. If that's bad usage, I'm humbly corrected.
Thanks for allowing us to join you on your journey. Loved every minute of it. Now when you get to TNG after the first season it gets much better hang in there.
As a kid who grew up in the 80s with the TOS movies and later TNG, the TOS show was always on the brink of being too cheesy. I still appreciated the big three and especially young Scotty but I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed TOS as much as I did watching it with you guys :)
What a long, strange trip it's been... despite my having some gripes with your reactions, you guys have been entertaining, insightful and really dedicated to sticking with it. Cheers!
Thnx for the ride guys! When it comes to the guest characters I think Alex's favorite was Harry Mudd, and for Josh it was...the mugatu!
You’re mirror mirror prediction was amazing
Spoilers, but lots of great memories. Your Star Trek "Original Series" reactions have been fun. Believe it or not, some of these characters and situations will be revisited in the future. There are Star Trek movies, and one is called Wrath of Khan, so obviously Ricardo Montalban will be back to make tribble. Your foundation of knowledge of the Star Trek universe has now been laid, and future series will build on this foundation. However, there is a Clint Eastwood movie from 1971 called Dirty Harry that you should watch. There is an actor named Andrew Robinson in it, and he nails his role so well that it influenced his later acting career. By watching him in that role, it will affect how you relate to his character years from now when you finally get to the Deep Space Nine series. Trust me, his "reputation" will add to his performance like a fine wine.
Robinson was also excellent, in a completely different role, in the 80s "Twilight Zone" episode "Profile in Silver." Unfortunately, I think that version of "Twilight Zone" is only available on DVD, not Blu-ray or streaming.
Loved these highlights. I really enjoyed your journey through Star Trek TOS and will definitely be re-watching many of the episodes. Looking forward to you continuing your journey through the Star Trek universe. Thanks Alex and Josh!
Nurse Chapel was married to Gene Roddenberry. She went on to play in the nex gen series as both the mother of a bridge crewmember AND the voice of the ship's computer. Pretty sure she voiced all Starfleet computers.
It was such a rare treat that you guys not only watched this old show all the way through, but appeared to enjoy all the good, cheesy fun just as much as we old timers did back in the day. If you actually yearn for more TOS however, consider reacting to James Cawley's 10 fan-made episodes of Star Trek Phase 2 (aka Star Trek New Voyages), which starts pretty weak, but rapidly improves and features actual writers and actors from the original series. Standout episodes feature Walter Koenig and George Takei (among others like Grace Lee Whitney returning as Janice Rand, Denise Crosby of TNG fame, and William Windom as Commodore Matt Decker). Vic Mignona's slightly superior (production wise) Star Trek Continues also features 11 episodes with excellent writing and assists from many Trek alumni (John DeLancie, Michael Dorn, a great episode featuring Michael Forest reprising his role as the god Apollo) as well as casual celebs like Lou Ferrigno playing a green Orion trader.
Minus the fact that the actors are largely amateurs, both of these guys faithfully created the look, feel, and flavor of the original episodes, while frequently maintaining the same level of quality in the writing. IMO, they pulled off a minor miracle in extending TOS a further two seasons, with Mignona's series literally featuring the last mission before the Enterpise pulls back into space dock for a much-needed refit.
Unfortunately, these fan productions were done so well that they literally threatened th new Trek regime that followed in the wake of the Abrams films. Trek's corporate owners were tired of the old hippie, nerdy crowd and in search of more general audiences, dumbed down the franchise with Discovery and the first two seasons of Picard, and decreed in 2016 that no fan film could be longer than 10 minutes, and no Trek alumni could volunteer their services. This was a HUGE slap in the face to a few generations of fans, and actually made me walk away from Trek until Strange New Worlds. SNW still has a LOT of the problems of the new regime, but they clearly got the hate mail and decided to make more stand-alone episodes that actually had something positive to say about the future... for the most part. I'm hoping season 2 isn't a travesty, but if it is, The Original Series and The Next Generation (both series and films) will live on, and these fan-made series should really be included in every boxed set of the original series. They're THAT good at times.
You guys might think this stuff hasn't aged very well, but in truth, it wasn't that great back then either lol (especially before the digital remasters, which truly improved the overall quality). But the stories, performances, over-the-top music, and generally good vibes gave this series serious rewatchability and kept generations of fans coming back for more, so thanks for sharing your reactions/ reviews; it was a very pleasant trip down memory lane.
The sucker monster gave me nightmares. Guys, I have to say, 👏👏👏👏👏👏 on the editing, it must have taken forever.
Here's a little trivia for you guys: William Shatner and James Doohan were born in Canada. Shatner in Montreal and Doohan in Vancouver 🇨🇦
Love the channel guys. As a life long fan watching you guys fall in love with the Trek too was fun to watch. You guys should keep going. Watch them all. The movies, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, even the new stuff. You're gonna love it
Really enjoyed that! I watched every one of these with you guys since the first episode. What a journey! I loved every minute of it.
I'm 60, I watched Star Trek in syndication in the early 1970s (I don't remember it from the 1960s). Grew up watching it - with my Dad!
What is hard to explain is that the period of the 1970s (apart from the Animated Series, which I didn't see at the time), was post-ST, pre-Star Wars. There was little else, little else as big, anyway, in science fiction. Possibly the excellent Planet of the Apes movies. And US and UK TV produced some good S-F shows. But for many years until Star Wars came along, ST was the word, and in the beginning was the word, and nothing else was the word, except ST!
Has to be one of the most influential TV shows of all time. And much as I love the Next Generation, and some of the subsequent ST eras, for me it will always be the Original Series, with the big three, and the big seven.
Thank you for your reactions across all three seasons!
I was looking for their reaction to "The Squire of Gothos" but I can't find it.
Any ideas?
I didn't manage to watch all the reactions, but I enjoyed the ones I watched, keep going 😎
Thank you guys for a awesome time I greatly appreciate it. You guys made all these episodes pass so fast. Id like to recommend a movie to review that i recently watched. "The Popes Exorcist" was one of the best horror movies I've seen in awhile. And I'm sure u guys would enjoy it too. Either way thank you gentlemen for such a awesome time. I look forward to all your other movie and tv series reviews.
Best reaction series I’ve seen! I hope your Trek continues!
The headshake to the Batman joke - too soo man
Well done gentlemen with the highlight reel.
Now, set course for the Animated Series. Ahead, Warp Factor 2.
P.S., keep in mind the times for the quality of the animation. If you focus on the writing, you'll find that there is quality Star Trek in the show.
It wasn't just the state of animation at the time that was weak, although that alone was awful, it was also that the animation studio they used was Filmation. Some people who went on to become great animators (including Bruce Timm and John Kricfalusi*) started there, but all have said that the company's practices were dreadful. The animators weren't really allowed to animate. They could get in trouble for that. They had to trace or xerox the characters off the model sheets and tweak them as minimally as possible, and they had to use stock sequences as often as they could. The "animation," if you can call it that, had to be as cheap as they could make it. The series did have the voices of the original cast, decent scripts, solid character designs and backgrounds, and wasn't dumbed-down much for children, but the way the characters *move* (or don't) is just laughable.
*Kricfalusi is... a very troubled person, to put it kindly, but he still deserves credit for helping to revive the art of animation in the early 'nineties. It had been in a thirty-year slump. He and Timm are just two who were instrumental in dragging it out of the wasteland.
Filmation was certainly no worse than Hanna-Barbera, who invented “limited animation” in the first place. And just a few years later Filmation would improve dramatically by adopting Rotoscope techniques.
@@Fool3SufferingFools Just trying to reduce the shock the guys will experience. I am certain we'll hear at least one comment about it.
You really need to watch the Star Trek bloopers that are out there! They are a hoot!
Speechless....Thank you both for some truly fantastic rewatch moments. What a great 3 seasons with the Target Audience 👍
Looking forward to your thoughts on the animated series. The limited animation style ( with lots of stock scene use, you'll notice lots of continuity errors) takes a bit to get used to but still it is great!
You guys have been great. I thoroughly enjoyed accompanying you on your discovery.
'A-hem'!
(Whispering) Don't tell them about "Discovery". 🤐
@@TheNoiseySpectator Have never seen any of it; I only watch TOS.
@@fredklein3829 Ah, then I warn you also to avoid "Star Trek: Discovery".
I like to call it "STD" for a good reason. 😏
10:23 In case anyone missed it, in the original history, Edith Keliler was killed trying to save the bumb who disintegrated himself after looting and unconscious Dr. McCoy.
TOS is definitely up there for myself. I just love the OG crew. Spock, Bones, Kirk. Amazing. Don't get me wrong TNG is awesome but nothing like that first hit you know?
Time to watch the blooper reels now.
I'm surprised you didn't include your reaction when Flavious was killed by the machine gun, it was hilarious.
FLAVIOUS!
Glad you had a great time with TOS, cant wait until you get to TNG!
For my money, the most entertaining series ever made👍
Looking for to your overall series wrap up review!
I'm surprised that the guys' reaction to Shatner's over-the-top effeminate courtroom freakout in "Turnabout Intruder" wasn't included. ("It is MUTINY! Deliberate, vindictive, insane at its base! But mutiny is charged, and encouragement to mutiny. Doctor McCoy, Mister Scott, you heard it!") I guess they didn't react much, but I laugh every time I watch that scene.
Shaka when the walls fell. Darmok and Jalad on the ocean.
I love it so much! 😁
Great recap 😎👍
Target Audience clip show!
Alex and Josh are fantastic, no shades of gray about it.
You know, with all the Kirk Fu, I would have liked to see a Batman crossover.
Well, after all, Batgirl, the Riddler and two Catwomen were all on the show...
@@anthonybernacchi2732 yeah...fair is fair!!
Pow! Crash!! Bang!!!
Shatner did play Two-Face in a 2017 Batman animated feature with Adam West.
You guys are great, really enjoyed your reactions.
Cos you liked this i think you'd like the UK series called Blake's 7 from 1978 to 1981
Who would have thought that a pair of Star Wars fans would actually enjoy Star Trek. Now if only the rest of the fans from both sides learned from Alex and Josh by keeping an open mind debates about which fandom is better would be a thing of the past. Nice montage btw Alex and Josh.
Eh, there was always a much bigger overlap in fan bases than people were willing to admit. Even Gene and George loved each other's work
At least you still have the animated series and the movies. The first movie is ok. The second is the best. Dated as an 80s flick, but really good.
Glorious!
Thanks
I was counting on my fingers to confirm that you included at least one clip from every episode, and indeed you did. Interesting that the briefest bit in the video was from "The Enemy Within" (one of Josh's Season 1 faves, IIRC). The one clip I wish you had included was your reaction to Khan mentioning his name for the first time in "Space Seed."
The fade to black at the end worked beautifully in the "Turnabout Intruder" video, but even better here.
Can't wait for your TAS reactions!
Had to pull out the fingers 💀
Yeah Josh loved The Enemy Within but we didn’t have many big reactions during it
And now for the movies starting with 1979 Star Trek The Motion Picture.
Starting with that one?
If they could only watch one, I would want it to be the "The Wrath of Khan".
But, if they are trying to watch them in order, I guess they will get to it soon enough. 🤦🏼♂️
Onto the animated series, the movies, the next generation, etc.
The Animated Series will be fun to watch again, though be warned the sound FX and music will haunt your nightmares for weeks to come. What I'm really looking forward to in the next few months are your reactions to the movies - they are the link to modern Trek and I'd argue the most influential entries in the canon informing what we get now. The Trek universe really expands and you get to see a lot of things just mentioned in dialogue during TOS. The FX from the first movie onwards are, as you'd expect, far more effective and immersive. You are in for a treat.
The music was great! Same with the sound effects.
Sometimes I will pull up the music album just to listen to it, alone 😁.
16:14 "Did this realy happen?" Is a good point, for some of them.
Like in "Mirror Mirror", what if they were not really in a parallel universe of Evil, but were experiencing delusions from lack of sleep and a "rough beam up"?
Think about it; their "doubles" did generally the same things they did while they were on "our Enterprise", what if it was them, and they were acting like barbarians because they were psychotic?
Also, about the episode, "Cats Paw", how could you have possibly convinced your superiors that actually did happen?
If the captain of a U.S. Navy vessel filed an incident report like that, they would be called before a board of inquiry decide if they were lying or needed to be taken to a psychiatric hospital. 😯
Now pretend you haven't watched it for 10 years and do
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)
Wow, you guys made your own version of Shades of Grey (this one is great tho!) 😂
I really hope you make the connection down the line 😶
Watching this show is some what of a original idea.
I’m sure,the movie’s will come on after the animated serie’s will be over?We’ll find out,I’m sure!And,I have to say;I’ve enjoyed this,immesley!
Hard to tell by this video that you like the series as this comes off as compilation of roasting the series or at least laughing at it. 😉
Still fun though.
I think you guys have one more TOS movie before you start TNG. I’m super interested in watching how you react to the evolution of that series, and it’s differences to the 60’s show….
And now, only at the end, do you truly understand.
When you get to the movies, it’s worth saying that my favorite is probably II, but VI is really close behind, so they don’t decline with time. It’s more of a rollercoaster. Most people agree the even-numbered movies are better.
It isn't just Joe.
Most everyone agrees II is the best movie of all, including the newer ones.
Thanks for watching these episodes guys. It really took me back to being a kid in the 70’s watching it in reruns with my dad.
I hope u can dive into the movies next!! All of them besides 5.
Quiet! 😧
LOL! Don't listen to Craig. There was no "Star Trek V". For technical reasons, they skipped the number 5 when they produced the movies.
.... Don't even bother trying to look it up, you would just be wasting your time. 😀
After you watch IV, just look up VI, next. 👍
@@TheNoiseySpectator oh yes I remember that now. Its when the number 5 & the letter V had disappeared off all keyboards. So they waited for 5 years & went to 6. 😂
If only 😊
V'ger approves of the Content Creators
I'm guessing it's the animated series, then Star Trek Continues and lastly, the movies to finish the original series adventures with Captain Kirk.
Let's let them play it by ear.
There is a lot of Star Trek out there.
Watching it all could take decades.
Just watched your reaction to "The Empath" tonight, and you're 100 % right: it's a dud. In fact, I think that it and "Plato's Stepchildren" showcase everything that's wrong with Fred Freiberger's STAR TREK. He "gets" it at the basic level, he knows the elements that make a a good story for the show, but he doesn't know how to make those elements work the way that Gene Coon did at his best. No "Amok Time"s or "Journeys to Babel" for Fred! Just Miss after Miss. By the way -- the best fiction that Gene Roddenberry ever wrote was that he was The Sole Creator of STAR TREK. Yes of course he created the show, but without D.C. Fontana or Gene Coon, and a few others, we would not still be talking about the show today. Roddenberry's own scripts are often pedantic and precious -- check out the episodes of HAVE GUN - WILL TRAVEL that he wrote if you don't believe me! Hope you do THE ANIMATED SERIES soon -- this has been a fun journey!
Kewl beans!
Now that you've reached the end, here's a fan music video of William Shatner performing Pulp's, "Common People," with various clips of Star Trek: The Original Series:

So what's Next? Star Trek Animated? Star Trek TNG? Batman 66? other thing?
