    A subtle thing I loved in this episode is how Jack Quaid (Boimler) and Tawny Newsome (Mariner) kept a lot of the same physical mannerisms their animated personas have, like Boimer doing his powerwalk away from Una (7:14) and even how Mariner sits kind of cross legged when she's chilling out with the crew.

  • @briangressett902
    @briangressett902 Год назад +18

    Does that mean The Cerritos Crew is always drunk on that Orion alcohol?

    • @DoremiFasolatido1979
      @DoremiFasolatido1979 Год назад +8

      In what way would that be at all unexpected?
      Though, to be fair, it would technically only have to be Mariner, since the show is largely from her point of view. Which also means that time portal somehow both undoes and reinstates the effects somehow.
      Personally...I just assume everyone in the future is smashed on something.

    This is one of my new absolute favorite Star Trek episodes. I love how Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid captured the physical mannerisms of their animated characters, like the way Mariner sits when she's talking to Uhura and the way Boimler walks away after getting startled by Una.

    Sorry for the additional comment, I just remembered something I didn't want buried beneath the one below...
    At the end when Boimler and Mariner have returned to the Cerritos, where we see Boimler looking at his recruitment poster with Una, Ransom walks past and calls her, "...the hottest first officer in Starfleet history." This isn't as creepy as it sounds, because the actor voicing Ransom, Jerry O'Connell, is married to Rebecca Romijn, aka Una Chin-Riley. So despite the time and dimensional differences, you have a husband stating he finds his wife attractive. :D Though he could perhaps do so in a less alpha-male manner.

    A few things I really liked:
    - The characters' mannerisms didn't change to become "more real".
    - Boimlertalking to Pike about talking to other people.
    - The Orion being teasonsble, and not the stereotypical pirate.
    - Spock seeing the logic in not overdoing his emotional experiment.

    Such a fun episode! Boimler and Mariner are just all of us if that happened to any of us. So fun to see you geek out over all the references Clay :D As so often, Lower Decks, as much as they point out silly tropes, is a celebration of Star Trek and its tropes. I also like that they still very much played into the ongoing character archs, it's not just a standalone, even tho it can be seen as such. Like Boimler talking to Pike and Una towards the end is super sweet, as well as Mariner talking to Uhura. And I'm so happy we got the signature Boimler scream and running :D
    My main thing for Musical episodes is that, to me they have to make sense somehow. If it's just for the sake of it, I'm not the biggest fan. If there is an in universe reason for them to happen, that makes them way more fun to me (like for example Lucifer did). From the teaser and title it looks like it will be. And very much agree about the constant singing vs. going from song to song.

    This episode instantly became the best thing in my life as soon as it finished. (seriously, my life is all sorts of messed up right now. :P ) When it finished, I felt calm, relaxed, and genuinely happy for the first time in months. Of course, that feeling lasted all of about three second before the family dog, who was laying next to me, imagine there was a threat and left of the lounge barking his head off, completely shattering the experience. Oddly, one of my favourite parts was right at the end when, having seen (and known) who was on the other side of the portal, Rutherford seems unable to help but pipe up, "They seem nice." :D :D The whole episode was a blast, and I cannot help but lament that the whole series couldn't have been like this. Here's hoping season four of Lower Decks can match it in some way when they go to Fernginar and meet Rom and Leila.

  • @samfisher6606

    I loved this episode so much! I think my favorite part about this episode is that I was so caught up in the crossover aspect of it all that I forgot about the mention of the NX-01 having horonium. So by the time Boimler had that Eureka moment about the NX-01, I completely forgot about it. Ransom calling Una the “hottest officer ever” is hilarious. I just loved all the ST: Enterprise references in general. And Boimler calling “Riker” while doing the Riker maneuver in an episode directed by Jonathan Frakes. I also loved the changing of the history, giving Orion _scientists_ the credit for the discovery. The scene of the animated SNW crew and the way it breaks the 4th wall was the honestly the best part second only to seeing Mariner and Boiler geek out the whole time. And I think there was a reference to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind in this episode. Who was Pelia quoting to Boimler?

      We then built the USS Enterprise CVN-65 WITH portholes from the CVN-6
      We are currently building the USS Enterprise CVN-80
      It will also include 4 portholes from the CVN-6
      AND 35,000 pounds of Steel from the CVN-65
      There will also be a time capsule with momentos from both.

    This is the first full episode of SNW or LD that I've seen, and I think this is going to put me over the edge to watch both series in their entirety. I was a little skeptical of both, especially LD, but this episode was just Star Trek through and through. TOS had comedic episodes back in the 1960s, and there was a whole animated series in the 1970s (which I haven't really seen), so maybe I need to be like Nyota and learn to lighten up. I realize I'm spoilering myself by watching an episode out of order, but that doesn't really bother me, I'm all about seeing how they do it, even when I know what they're going to do.

    I absolutely loathe musicals, so I'm really dreading the musical episode, but I have to give them a lot of credit for taking that chance. It's a big swing. This whole series has been big swings, from playing with canon (and implying it's not as important as people think in the process) to things like this crossover. Simply going back and playing with some of the most important characters in the setting is risky, but they've been pulling it off. This show is great.
