Hello, Laura!
My name is Roberta and I lecture in engineering courses in Brazil. Since you'll always have to deal with lots of irregular quadrilaterals, I'd like to give you a measuring tip: if you measure all the sides of the quadrilateral and one diagonal, you can turn the quadrilateral into 2 triangles. The triangle is a very particular geometric figure due to a property called "geometric rigidity": once the dimensions of the sides have been established, the angles will never change. All you have to do is redraw the triangles with the diagonal common to both to recreate the quadrilateral.
A very simple way to draw the triangles is to follow these steps:
1) Start by drawing one of their sides, such as the hypotenuse;
2) Draw a circle with a radius equal to the side (e.g. the smaller cathetus) and a center at one of the ends of the hypotenuse;
3) Draw another circle with a radius equal to the other side (e.g. the longer cathetus) and a center at the other end of the hypotenuse.
4) At the point where the two circles intersect you will have the meeting of the two sides. Simply connect this point with each end of the hypotenuse and you will have your triangle drawn.
PS. To assemble the quadrilateral, just repeat the process with the other sides on top of the diagonal (in the case of the steps - the hypotenuse).
If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to explain better.
Greetings and congratulations on the channel!
This is so cool, I knew the make a shape into triangles trick but not the redrawing the triangle one and I'll absolutely be using that. Thanks.
Roberta, você pode fazer um vídeo desse processo? Ou indicar um?
Nice method, very accurate, but much too complicated for things like this. With a template, your much faster....
With a template you also make sure to have it fit with the old wood. From experience I know: these are rarely straight lines. The wood bents, twists and shifts over time - even if it was originally straight...
I've also heard of using the diagonal length to check for skew or other distortion, particularly when working with welded steel. Less of an issue when you've got a template to reference, but still useful to test that something didn't shift or otherwise warp during the process.
Still waiting for the “SUPERGEIL” hoodie.
in Belgium it means superhorny. So, I'll skip that merch then :D
@@daanpas4428 haha, I want it even more now.
@@daanpas4428 yes we'd have a fun time wearing that in the netherlands :')
"Let's take this out and celebrate this a bit more" love that!
Absolutely! Take time to celebrate your wins
You're going to hear everything through those windows.
Laura & Felix teaching the non German internet the word 'geil'
Sehr geil!
I can level that up for you: Erste Klasse, obergeil! 😎
@@monikawiedmann8594
Oberhammergeil 😉
@@raraavis7782 auch gut 😂
@@monikawiedmann8594
Gotta make it even more German, by randomly combining existing words into new ones, am I right?
@ Non German internet : Be carefull with using your new found word in The Netherlands. ;)
Laura you definitely need a low bench about knee height so you can use the angle grinder on it and not on your knee. 😉😉
Not sure what is about this episode; maybe the footage during the metal work (slo-mo sparks!!!!!) - but Felix's camera work and the editing are noticeably OUTSTANDING! Totally 'GEIL' !!!
Always adore Laura, but this praise is for the team backing her up!!!!!!
@Felix: I like your editing so much. The videos are really pleasing to watch.
And I can see improvement over time. Good job!
It reminds me of Japanese rice paper walls. Very nice, Laura! Hi Felix & Smudo!
Videography's 1st Law of Smudo: "A video with Smudo is a better video than that same video without Smudo"
Corollary to the 1st Law of Smudo: "Any video, no matter how good, can be improved by the addition of Smudo"
is it also as good in terms of soundproofing? the sound of the toilet can be heard in the hallway? but maybe it doesn't hurt?
That was my first thought too.
The height variance between the two trapezoid windows really makes them look amazing. I love them so much!
11:59 lol. Been there 🤣. I realllly like the part where you acknowledged that there was something you wanted to change later. But for now, you wish to celebrate what you liked. Such a wonderful mentality.
Genius windows, you’ve inadvertently created a little touch of Bauhaus in your hallway, tying in the original style of the house with an architectural style which followed it, beautiful
The rustic beams with the modern windows look FANTASTIC!
Felix’s videography of the metalworking in this video is so incredibly beautiful! I’m in awe 😍
Nice prototypes, space is begging for stained glass!
Yes!!!
Just buy the entire panel of stained glass, no need to design and create a window with lead.
You can make stained glass artwork without lead nowadays. I have seen others use copper foil/tape around the edges of the glass then solder them together with lead free solder.
This. I really don't buy the plexiglass on that space. All natural elements (clay, wood, oils) and then plastic... I would put glass. There are some glass variants that are used in toilet doors and windows that let the light through but keep privacy.
@@JesusClimentI think it really is just to test out what looks good. I don’t think she intends to leave the plastic from what she said at the start of the video.
Your attention to detail with the horizontal lines is amazing. Love it.
Just add that horizontal element from the triangle window next to the rectangle one : of course segmenting the ‘glass’ in the horizontal one will be the wand of magic that ties both areas together. Free spirit win.
The windows are so cool. They lowkey remind me of those traditional Japanese paper doors.
The montage video sections are works of art; great camera work, great editing, great music choices. Well done, Felix!
I feel like it clashes a bit if you do keep the plexi. The entire vibe and thought process was as much nature and natural as possible and then in the middle of it is Plexiglass.
Somebody in my parent's neighbourhood has some something similar to this with their upstairs toilet/bathroom. Also opaque white glass, but floor to ceiling. One downside, at least in the evening/night when the light is on inside, you can totally see the shadow of then sitting on the throne. XD
Two diagonal lines in the middle-ish of the over door window, matching the angle and space of the two lines around the beam!
yes!!
Looks amazing there is a Japanese screen door feel about it. I personally would never have it in a bathroom or bedroom. I would appreciate more privacy sound wise
Laura forgot the word Polygon, honestly, mood. Every shape is a triangle if you break it down enough.
Trapezoid.
i think one of my favourite evolutions on this channel si that you don't even tryto translate some words anymore, and you just have geil on screen
"Imma try to make this fancy"😂😂😂 right after u said u wouldn't worry about it! Love it❤❤❤
I know! I think a lot of us watching were waiting to see how long Laura stuck with a plain design! 🤣 🤣 🤣
Typical Deutsch, they can Neverrr Everr give in and justcdo things...it all has to be PERFEKT. A tiny bit annoying ;-) Letting go is not their option... Nice window btw
Suggestion about bath window frames...paint screw heads black if you hadn't already thought of it. Also, agree with horizontal division of window over door to match side windows. Had you thought of doing stained glass windows at a future date ? You could video you learning how. Ha!
I think the idea in this particular spot in the house is to allow light into the bathroom, while maintaining privacy. Stain glass would be pretty, for sure, but doesn't let as much light come in.
You could use the same glass and sandblast it so the bottom gets more opaque. Think this would look really nice
Laura you are now an expert in trapezoids! I know you have some math phobia - many do - but as a former high school and middle school math teacher, I hearby crown you The Queen of Trapezoidia!!
Looks awesome! Reminds me of Japanese rice paper sliding doors in a way. Great work Laura and great idea to change the window above the door to match the horizontal line of the other two.
Love those windows & spending time & effort on the frames was well spent ... Laura you continue to amaze me congratulations 🎉
I'm loath to offer advice (so many advisors in RUclipsville!) but here it is, paint the finial on the stairpost black.
The angles and colors of those windows remind me of the Haus Lise Lotte logo!
I really admire and like that you admit the above door window needs to be redone, and the way you plan to redo it will look amazing. If you want to make these windows look even more awesome, you could double the effort by making duplicates and then fitting two with a gap in-between that can house strong diffused lighting, essentially turning all the windows into inside lighting (with a lot of creative options) but that would be heaps of added effort. I hope too that you find some way to integrate your tiny home into your property eventually.
The nice part is you have accumulated all the necessary tools needed for every project.😊
I really like the minimalist look of your windows.
Geil Laura, das sieht richtig toll aus! So ein schönes Detail was den Flur extrem aufwertet! You nailed it!!
I’ve been slowly learning German for the past few months and these videos are always a good metric for how much I know! It’s not much, but I’m recognising times when the subtitles are different to what was actually said, just small things like “sehr cool” being changed to “perfect”. The English flows better than a literal translation so I get it!
When you are a team of one, and I find myself getting emotional involved and rooting for you hoping you win by the end of the video. I love your creative solutions that you basically give to the world. Brilliant work.
A friend of mine did a door which included two pieces of thin plexi with bubble wrap in between - it looks really cool.
Looks great! I am excited to see the rest of your visions coming to fruition!
You sawing and grinding so close to your leg did freak me out.
Hugs from 🇨🇦
Me too! Not saying she shouldn’t do it (her call), but I may hold my breath when she does it 😂
what you need for this is a "Treppenspinne".
The new 'screen frames' look great but I think the one to be modified would look better without a horizontal division, there's so many lines and levels already
You need to keep the sizes of the openings above the door in keeping with the openings in the angled "windows" for the whole thing to look right. Perhaps a single vertical division splitting the window in half together with the matching horizontal bar. Two larger sections above, two smaller sections below.
My German is OK, but not native. I've learned a lot of expressions from this channel - especially when stuff goes wrong and they're effing and blinding!
Painting the screws black will help too.
With the opaque plexiglass, it looks a bit like shoji - very nice actually!!
Laura is the kind of person hoarders all aspire to be. Saves plexiglass for 13 years, until the right project comes up for it.
I love how you approach every challenge with enthusiasm and skill. And what a bonus to have every tool and material you might need.... every innovator's dream laboratory!
Can I make one suggestion and that is, can you either replace the screws with black ones or paint them black. Just an observation seeing as you have put so much work into it and you being such a perfectionist. 😅
I love 4 sided triangles! 😉
A stained glass collab with Simone would have been perfect for those windows instead of using plastic.
But the “shoji” style does look nice.
I love the trapezoid shoji adjacent windows that you have landed with!
So talented both in your imagination as well as attention to detail..Have fun with your wife in the US..
OOMG!! OOOOOMG!!!! Those windows are my most favorite thing you have done to date. They are so elegant and yet so basic and raw. Love
I knew you would change your mind in a instant about the frame joint overlaps. Organic process, always navigating. Part of the appeal of making/building.
Didn't think I was going to like it....have to eat my words. Looks fantastic
Some really cool textured glass would look really cool. Maybe an antique textured, frosted glass? Would look a little less sterile.
Great video, love the camera work, Felix. It's funny how often you end up working on your knees, no matter how much bench space you have! 🤣 That sound of satisfaction with the fit, at 17:13, was hilarious! I'd have to continue the horizontal bar across the 3rd window too. I love how the opaque window and black metal frame aesthetic sits with the wooden framework of the house and is both a nod to Mondrian and modern art but also links with old style black timber-framed houses and Huf Haus. I'd be interested to see what the lighf leaks look like once both the hall and bathroom are done; l wonder if they'd look pretty rather than annoying?
Laura the pedant in me has to point out that a triangle has 3 sides, not 4 (even though l know why you called them triangle-shaped). Little things. They matter! 🤣 ❤❤
You make everything look so easy. The windows look fantastic.
I actually liked the mix of vertical and horizontal lines
Oh I love them. They have a sort of Asian (Japanese perhaps?) look to them. So, there will be light but also privacy plus the wonderfully unique appearance - Well done!!!!!!!
Beautiful
Those windows look great. The wood, steel and frosted glass are giving me industrial shoji screen vibes. Hopefully we get to see the finished rectangle window with some backlighting at night. It should look amazing.
The windows remind me of Frank Lloyd wright. Very cool. Makes me want to do this in my house.
I really loved how we got a little check-up on the staircase wall!
I don't think we have seen you weld in a long time!
The windows look amazing, I think breaking up the plexiglass with the cross bars really elevated its look!
The windows look great and it is the right decision to not mix the vertical and horizontal bars. Just one observation - the 'triangular' windows have four sides. Not exactly triangular.
This is doorbell-designing... BUT since you can see the bathroom lights being on from this side through the plexiglass, maybe it'd be cool to add a small trash-lamp that's connected to the switch inside the bathroom so you can see it's occupied from the hallway/living room! I bet there's some awesome lamps in your trashpile (that I'm crazy envious about haha)
I like your horizontal line idea for the transom. I was wondering if you did a vertical piece that is the same angle as the beam separating the two other windows would look good to break up the large expanse.
You can place a "fake" beam diagonally in the opening over the door. Then make two windows just like the new ones grom today but smaller. It might look like a nice continuity too. If I catch your drift that will be way better than "extending" lines from today's windows.
18:23 Totally agree about the vertical and horizontal lines for the rectangular window frame over the door frame.Suggestion: Having just one vertical line in the rectangular window matching the diagonal of the two windows. Could be dead center, or offset it in a 1/3 - 2/3 ratio from left to right. 😊
Wow, they look great. Very clever. The house will be uniquely yours
Your front entry is a beautiful blend of modern and traditional. What a wonderful space to greet you and guests.
And they are trapezoids. 😅
idk if it might look weird but you could add a vertical divide in the middle of the window above the door that matches the angle of the beam
ein sehr schöner Kontrast zum Fachwerk!
The windows are literally a work of art!
Sharing your joy when you get it perfect, is the best.😊
the windows are fantastic!!!
Es sieht echt Klasse aus. Hat so was japanisches, wie diese traditionellen Papier-Trennwände!
Nice to see rebuilding each week vs teardown.
I agree with you Laura the transom window did not look right. But I love the steel frame look. Very clean and sharp. Looking forward to next video xx
the track you played at 10:30 was so good, reminds me of when i used to tune into your channel just to relax to the music
Ooooh. That idea with two partitions, one that comes even with the two "triangels" and a big section on top is awesomeness.
You make me want to make things. ❤
She is literally the reason I got into making, now I have a house full of furniture I made
It looks like Japanese house divider wall 👌👌👌
The glass would look sick as primary colors, similar to Bauhaus.
Very satisfying. 😊 Doing one area first and getting it finished is a super giel plan. Gives motivation and every one a taste of what's to come.
This is like a reality show on tv
This is so much fun to watch! I can't wait to see the built-in furniture!!
The light true gonna be fantastic. Maybe paint srewheads black
The windows resemble shoji, the japanese washi paper inside sliding doors!
Interesting - the windows immediately reminded me of the "Haus Lise Lotte" logo
The windows look amazing
It looks great! Finally getting to do some pretty things. ❤
You can always problem solve and with enthusiasm 😊 but I actually saw the answer at the same time as you on this occasion (yahoo) put a horizontal line in the other window - super chic 🎉
Beautiful work. Now I want to do that very thing to my house.
love the modern look of it.
what a lovely job on those windows - you rock!
looks fantastic
The best way I have found is to cut narrow strips of 1/4” (6mm) thick mdf or plywood, or wood battens to build a template inside the opening. Just cut to length and hot glue together. And maybe some cross bracing to hold together when you take it to the shop. The advantage is referencing the exact place the frame will mount.
Have Simone build a stained glass panel for over the door!
The windows are pretty cool. I'm pretty OCD and for some reason, it didn't bother me that one section was horizontal and the other vertical. Then when you showed where the horizontal line would be on the transom section, it made perfect sense.
