  • The age at which you should start prostate cancer screening depends on your risk factors, which include:
    Age
The risk of prostate cancer increases with age, and after age 50, your chances increase even more.
    Race
Black men have a higher risk of developing and dying from prostate cancer. Black men should start screening in the their early 40s. We need to encourage and welcome black men into our medical practices.
    Family history
If a close relative, like a father, brother, or uncle, was diagnosed with prostate cancer before age 65, your risk is higher than average.
    Inherited gene mutations
Some genetic mutations, like BRCA1, BRCA2, ATM, HOXB13, MLH1, MSH2, or MSH6, increase your risk. These can be screened for as well
