Each Star Institute video implies that they have skills to teach that make it less overwhelming, but falls short of saying any of them. Most Sensory videos anywhere seem to do that: say You're Not Alone, Like Yourself, Have Supportive People...and the closest they get to help is to learn what overwhelms you and avoid it. But I'd like specific examples of what lowers people's sensitivity, too. I'll settle for more examples of what ways to avoid common sensory things, like what cut or fabric to avoid, or things we don't realize are agitating us but that we should notice and what the alternatives are.

Read about her I'm catholic and knew aspects of this were a spiritual gift. I have had this I was "healed" of some aspects of this but I know it's a spiritual gift to a degree.

Perks to SPD? I’m 56 and have not found even ONE perk! Every day, all day(unless I’m in my bedroom) I’m working to control my fight/flight/fright signals. Often it’s subconscious, and often it’s not, but my CNS is ON constantly! It’s so exhausting that I crave being in my bedroom so I can control all the triggers. It never used to be this bad but I find it’s getting worse the older I get. Thank God I have a loving husband and grown kids! Oh! And sleep? What’s that? I wish there had been help for me when I was a child bc I know my parents would have helped me, and my adulthood would be different. And btw, I had very “normal” friendships growing up, and still do. I just find I need to self isolate to relax more often.

I have been living with this for coming on 49 years.. ever since I can remember, my folks tried every which way to help me and figure out what my ailment was... add in some learning disabilities and well.... diagnosis over load= bipolar, OCD, manic depressive yadayada (to be fair, most of theses are bi-products), As I grew older I made up my own coping mechanisms, some healthy and some unhealthy, phobias, anorexia and self medication, Of course it didn't help that I was also the only adopted child weirdo into a 4 child family but I digress...I am still mostly avoiding and barely coping with SPD. I rearrange furniture to accommodate how the air conditioning hits me, I sew my clothing to fix the discomfort I feel in my perception of unevenness, my hair is always up and I don't touch towels or newspaper... a daily struggle that requires those who love me to adjust their position at a table or in a room. I feel so much shame and embarrassment. AND despite all of this I am a successful person in music industry who at times has been labeled, "difficult" and "hard to work w/" BUT, who has also discovered that if I am little more forthcoming and honest about my struggle, people tend to want to be more helpful.. as embarrassing as it is... grace is a little easier to come by.

finding an environment where are disability creates an ability that others may not have is definitely something I'm working on finding in the workforce.

Finding a doctor that can help an help me understand my options related to reasonable accommodations for work and school's HR/ disability office would be great. I don't know what I need which would help me be more productive or helpful in general. I only know when I start feeling like it's really bad, I run to a dark quiet cool space alone and then sometimes can't snap out of shaking crying for over an hour.

I definitely can relate to if I'm feeling overwhelmed I just focus on one thing like looking at people's noses in a crowd.

This could actually be a spiritual
Catherine emmerich was a catholic mystic and she could taste a consecrated host, and church bells had their own sound for her. She could also smell holy things.
