    I am an OT and have used some of these video's to help educate parents and caregivers. The explanations are really useful. Thank you

    This video is pure gold! Such a good synopsis of helpful tools to ease transitions. ❤️ I agree, as G8 (and even my more neurotypical kids) grew older, a lot of the struggles with transitions naturally eased in time with their advancing brain maturity.

    Thank you so much for these tips. I have a spd kid who is on the spectrum and possibly has ADD. Hopefully schedules will work in the future. Right now he won’t focus on them. I love your spd videos because then I don’t feel so isolated in this!

      Adhd & asd: I try to use a rotating or cyclical weekly/monthly schedule. its easier for me to stick to the same "type" of routine than to adhere to a specific activity. Helps with RSD (rejection sensitive dysphoria) too. Good luck!!

    I find this video extremely helpful although you're talking about your kids these are things that was implemented in my childhood and people around me and also myself use these things and my everyday life the only difference is for the visual schedule I use Google Calendar which allows me to have different colors for different types of things example all doctors appointments are red, all caseworker appointments are teal, ect. An alarm goes off on time and 15 minutes prior to. And depending on the task sometimes an hour as well.. it is something that may help adolescents and adults which is why I wanted to share like you said it can be tedious so going through and making sure all of the important task all right in the phone correctly every 3 or 4 days can be extremely helpful.. I don't overload it to make it like every minute of my day is planned just the things that I have to be at appointments, knowing what time the Aide comes, transportation, ect. I have found that people like OT'S and caseworker know how to use the skills and use it automatically with me especially queuing. The other people in my life that don't necessarily have that training like my home health aide don't use it and we struggled a lot with getting out of the house on time so I think this is a great video to share with anyone that you may be working with if you have issues transitioning because this is a really hard thing to explain. Because she is very much right as you get older your window of Tolerance gets a little bit more wide. so sometimes not everyone will be able to understand that you struggle with change or transitioning. And outwardly it may look like procrastination are using repetitive behaviors ei checking to make sure you have everything or that the lights are off.

    You can't transition out of a sensory processing disorder. They will always have the impairment

    • @ACommonLife
      @ACommonLife  5 лет назад +1

      I agree. I never said that you can transition out of it; this video is about handling transitions when a person is doing one thing and then transitions to another.

      @@ACommonLife How's that possible if they are already experiencing stress and transitioning to another stress related problem, surely this is cognitively bullying?

    What about transitioning from eating to bath to getting dressed to brushing teeth? My 3.5 yr old cries from each transition. Refuses to get dressed. Everything is a struggle. This started at age 3.

    Ty for the video. I have a little soon to be six year old daughter. She does have an extra chromosome , Trisomy 21, better known as Down syndrome. What tips can you give to this example- when she comes out of her speech session and the therapist tries to tell me what they worked on,, my daughter will elope and seems to have so much anxiety. Yesterday as I chased her down and got her to stop, she yelled pretty loud. I had her take some deep breaths, then we walked back the hallway where we said goodbye to her ST. My daughter then just fell to the floor. Any ideas on how I can help with this transition since I think she just wants to stay and play and cannot verbally express her wants. Ty

    Do you think that kids with SPD would do better with a set school schedule rather than a more relaxed schedule? I'm in between. Haven't figured out what works better yet. Have 7(2 on the spectrum) that are homeschooled (11 total).

      Schedules are usually better for most children, but even moreso for kids with SPD and those with ASD. Having a predictable day can take out a lot of the stressors.

      Find the way in which they do understand and different ways in which this information can be presented to children. Ie. use of visual routines, timers, verbal communication, visual communication etc. Help from an OT and SP can assist with this :)
